Did they finalize new flight security measures yet?

I was wondering if the dust has settled on the new on-board flight security measures or if they are still in flux? I'm mostly interested in whether or not the "must stay seated during the final hour of the flight" and no electronics during the last hour. They were also saying that you couldn't have anything in your lap during the final hour of flight. Does that mean no books/magazines? I guess I'll just sit there and stare off into space:confused3

Those temporary measures never applied to US domestic flights, just inbound international flights ie TO the US, and were only in place for a few days, at the discretion of the cockpit crew.

The directive is no longer in place.

Unfortunately nothing has changed in regards to US domestic flights.

The only country to still have formal restrictions on carry on luggage (for US bound flights) is Canada, in order not to violate their Charter of Rights and Freedoms. I will leave it at that to avoid the discussion being deemed political. Some airports overseas may request one piece of carry on, and some international airports with flights to the US may have a rule in place, but again that is nothing new since 12/25 for the most part.

The directive had little impact on major international airports which already had tighter security in place than in the US, and doesn't really have that much strength in other areas such as the check of passengers in transit from certain countries.

Thanks for the info bavaria. We were driving a few hundred miles on 12/26 and listening to radio news of the Christmas day attempt. We could tell there was confusion/uncertainty over what measures were being added. Flying is uncomfortable enough without having to sacrifice my ipod and a magazine. Not planning any international trips in the near future, so I guess I'll be ok. Thanks again for your reply.:)

You're welcome - I know that if one didn't keep abreast of the information it could be confusing, especially reading on this website. Tozzie and a few others did an admiral job with the underline and the bold keys over the holidays trying to correct some of the misleading posts. :)

Happy flying!

You know I'm thinking they'll never finalize security measures as long as they keep being so reactive. A guy put a bomb in his shoe so now we have to take off our shoes. Another guy had a liquid bomb so now we are restricted on carrying liquids. Then this guy tries to activate his underwear bomb by spending a long time in the bathroom and covering his lap with a blanket. So they consider not letting us get up or have anything in our laps for the last hour of the flight. At least they didn't say we couldn't wear underwear when we fly!

Have they considered knocking people out for the duration of their flight? Seriously, just chloroform everyone and nighty night for the whole flight. No fuss no muss!

I will be flying through Frankfurt, Germany next week. The only change I have been informed of is that only one carry on is allowed.

They keep emphasizing that it has to fit under the seat in front of you or in the overhead bin. I though that was always the rule though.

Fraport has NOT restricted the number of carryon, UA has removed their restriction, and LH never had one.

Fraport does recommend only bringing those things on board which are required during the flight for US bound flights, but has absolutely no restriction in place limiting to one piece of hand baggage. (of course, there may be restrictions put in place by your airline, as most non-US carriers have had much smaller hand luggage restrictions and weight limits already for years)

The bigger concern should be for weather as Fraport has a new advisory posted due to the bad weather again this week.
