A friend shared with me that the Shrimp have been replaced with sausage and the early arrival appetizers have been switched with Nacho chips? Any truth to this unappealing change?

It's a change alright...And not for the best. Unless you didn't like the skewered shrimp and 'real' wontons and do like gross scalloped, totally unpolynesian type potoatos, this change isn't for you!

Hi
We liked O'hanas when we went in October. We all thought that the potatoes were delicious, the shrimp were really good and we all loved the dessert. I don't eat any meat, but my friends enjoyed it, and my DD and DGD will be going there in August with the free dining.

Liked those god auful potato's...OMG!! This is much like still supporting bush after 13 zillion lies, I just don't get it. :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

I was NOT happy when I first heard about the changes. I LOVED the old appetizer platter, especially the shrimp wontons. However, when we went in October 2005, the food was quite tasty. I was not thrilled with the wonton chips and dips, but the salad, chicken wings, and shrimp were excellent, even though peeling the shrimp was pretty messy.

I never liked the grilled shrimp, anyway, since it was very bland, so that change was no problem for me. The meats were good as usual, and the potatoes, which I agree seem very non-Polynesian, were actually very good.

And the best change of all - the new dessert - is totally awesome! We had a group of 15 and everyone LOVED all of the food.

I would not give up on Ohana. Try it, you'll probably like it! :thumbsup2

You thought the grilled shrimp was BLAND??? My goodness, most of my family couldn't eat it because it was too spicy! What's going on here? Is this a plot of some type??? :confused3 :3dglasses :grouphug: :cloud9:

Peter Pirate,
The potatoes were the best!!! We even asked for more. Of course, I paid for it when I got on the scale when I got home. Had to really go to the gym everyday instead of a few times a week.

Those potatoes ROCK!! :teeth:

We tried 'Ohana in December and loved it. I thought all the food was really, really good. I can't wait to get back there in June.

I have to agree that I was VERY disappointed when I heard that 'Ohana changed the menu last fall. We used to visit 'Ohana on almost every trip. Well, we decided to give it a try anyway. We were not impressed with the plain wonton chips or the new grilled sausage (but I'm not a big sausage lover anyway). But, we loved the new shrimp (went through several bowls) and the potatoes. And, while I liked the new dessert, I preferred the pineapple/caramel. We were told though that we can ask for the pineapple/caramel and if they have pineapple in season, we can get it.

We actually talked to a chef about why they made the changes. He was visiting the table next to us (working with someone's allergies) and we stopped him for just a few minutes. He was very gracious about talking to us and told us that the reason that they changed the shrimp was because of uneven cooking. Because the shrimp grill SO fast, they would get some that were done right, but some that were VERY overdone.

If they just bring back the old wontons, I would be happy.

I didn't eat the shrimp before, so that change didn't bother me.
The sausage I will just leave, because I don't like that. But the other meats are enough for me.

I didn't like the rice before, so the potatoes sound good - although not Polynesian. And I like the new vegetables better than the green beans.

I did like the pineapple/caramel dessert though. It was a nice refreshing end to the meal.

Maggie

I haven't tried any of the changes, but for those of you who liked the potatoes...

O'hana Potatoes Recipe

Combine the Following Ingredients:
- 1 lb. 70 Count Idaho Russet Potato (washed and sliced)
- 1 cup of heavy cream
- 1/4 cup of cheddar cheese
- 2 tablespoons of parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup of sweet onions
- 1 teaspoon of kosher salt
- 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper

Place in greased 2" hotel pan and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Let stand for 5 minutes before cutting. Serve hot.

Can't wait to try the changes in June! We liked Ohanas well enough, meat was awesome as was the enviroment. However, DH has severe shell fish allergies so they would have to use special care when bringing us skewers to ensure that they weren't used on shrimp. That made service really slow for us. Now we won't have that problem! Also, the pineapples were good before, but banana's foster is one of my absolute favorites...can't wait!!

The photos of the chicken wings and stir fried vegies are making my mouth water. Thank goodness we're going to the chinese buffet tonight for dinner!

Well, I just crossed this place off my "to try" list. Not because of the potatoes (they look great), but the seasoning of the meats. I am allergic to cilantro, so that also lets out coriander as they are the same plant. Doctor has me on no "hot" spices, so that killed the shrimp.

I don't do Boma, either, because of the coriander.

Don't forget they got rid of the pineapple in caramel sauce as well.
