Did National downgrade their fleet?

Hi everyone,

I am wondering if anyone else is getting a message that their "mid-size" on the Emerald Aisle is a 2 door G5? 2 weeks ago that was a compact! What gives?

I have a confirmation for my upcoming trip and my reservation email says "Midsize 4-door pontiac G6 or Similar." However, when I pull the reservation up on the web site it says "2 door Automatic Air/Pontiac G5 or similar."

So does anyone know when a "midsize" shrunk down into a "compact"?

FYI, I plan on taking my confirmation with me, because there is no way I am leaving with a 2 door when I reserved a 4 door. We are also Executive so I am fairly confident I will get at least that. But I recommend everyone else hold on to those confirmations!

I have the same exact problem with Alamo! I'm not sure what to do. I need a four door, it's almost like their tricking you to spend more on the next size up!

I posted another thread on this maybe someone can share their recent experience, this must have happen in the last week bc I've checking.

I just printed my confirmation. It was dated August 15. So this change is very recent.:confused3

Short term customers can probably use their confirmation to get an "upgraded" car. Customers who need a car for 4-5 passengers, with trunk space, will probably need to reserve a full size car.

The rental agencies may be changing the classification as an alternative to raising prices (directly).

This just happened last night. I reserved yesterday and it said 4 door G/6. I checked my confirmation E-mail.
I will bring that with me and hopefully they will honor it.

Interesting...I just checked my res and I booked a G6 but it is now showing G5 on the website. Hmmm I wonder what this is all about.

I don't know about yall but I'm a little POed.

I've spent the last few months chasing down a decent rate from their ridiculous numbers and now they decide to change the class to force people to upgrade to a more expensive car! The nerve!

Maybe they've gotten some tiny cars in that will be the new compact, so everything else was moved up a step? Not that it would make it right-they should honor what you booked.

I have never received a midsized with a midsized reservation here in KY. I am always upgraded to full, or the last 2 times I had specialty vehicles at the midsize price. It may not be much to worry about.

Note a similar thread today with the same issue at Alamo. Alamo, of course, is owned by the same company as National (theoretically, National is branded as the business/corporate brand, Alamo as leisure. In practice, at many facilities, they are basically totally merged operations and the cars are interchangeable.)

Unless there's been a policy change on the ground, National/Alamo let you select your own vehicle within the class that you reserved. So I would go ahead and see if anything has actually changed at MCO before making a big deal about this with the company. If it is the same fleet of cars sitting in the parking spaces for the class, it really makes absolutely no difference what particular vehicle the reservation mentions.
