Did Macy's get a "Message"?

Macy's always has coupons in the paper. Never heard of them not offering discounts to non card holders.

We have been told since the changeover began that there would be no more coupons to people who are not using the CC. Perhaps this was to ensure that customers got used to charging their purchases to the Macy's card. I have not shopped in our local Filenes now Macy's since. I did get a flyer in the mail last week offering 15% off a purchase. I also wondered if they needed to offer the coupon to energize their sales.

One of my major gripes about Macy's taking over Filenes was the lack of discounts for shoppers without a Macy's card. I had been told repeatedly that Macy's would not be offering coupons to non charge card customers. What is on the back of the front section of todays Hartford Courant?? A coupon for 15%. It might make me wander back in. In fact it will. I still have $80 left on a gift card.

Well, get yourself a Macy's card too. Not only will you get the coupon discount, you can sometimes also get an extra 15% off off using a Macy's card. And, by using a Macy's cards, you can build up points towards a $10-20 off certificate. If you shop at Macy's at all, it would be an advantage to get their card.

I'd swear after the 40% off, then take an extra 30% off, plus 15% off for using a Macy's card AND a $10 certificate, they're going to end up paying me to take the stuff away.

A good rule for Macy's: Unless you absolutely, positively must have in it NOW, never pay full price because, sooner or later, it will go on sale. And than includes I.N.C.

My wife works at Macy's so this is what she told me...

Most of Macy's coupons only work if you use your Macy's Card.
You may have to look at the small print on the coupon itself to see if it says must use Macy's card.
It will also flag at the register and the salesperson will tell you if you need to use your Macy's card if the case may be to honor the coupon.
The coupon does not work on items that have a price with the last number ending in an 8 (usually EDV Every Day Values) or a manufacturer who will not allow lower discounts such Polo/Lauren etc.. --names are usually listed on coupon

More coupon's are mailed to the cardholder than will appear in the paper.
Also Macy's have several Customer Appreciation Days each month on select items (signs would be posted above the item) you will get additional 10-15-20% off an item if you use your credit card and there would not even be a coupon available. The more you use your card you will earn reward points from further discounts to freebies in the store, such as gift wrapping, percentage back (1-2%), reward dollars ($10-$25 off a certain amount of purchase).

Mayby Macy's South is different, because the coupons they have in the newspapers can be used with any card.

When there is a CAD (Customer Appreciation Day) if you use your Macy's charge you'll get 20% off, if you use the newspaper coupon you'll only get 15%. It's rewarding the BEST customers. Most companies do give out 'rewards' now, so it's not a new concept at all. Why not put your purchase on your Macy's charge, to get the BEST possible discount (and rack up the rewards) and then before you leave the store, make a payment on your charge to pay for what you just bought? Seems simple enough to me. In fact I'm heading there today to buy a vacuum. I've got my nice handy "New Account Coupon" for 15% off in the home store. (Plus I work there and today is EXTRA discount!) My $200. vacuum is gonna end up costing about half!
