I think maybe some are confused as to port and starboard. Port is left, facing forward. Port and left both have four letters, which is an easy way to remember.
You got me scared and I edited! Then I re-read your post and edited again.
My years of rowing has messed me up forever, because you are backwards in the boat. So your oar, to you, is on the opposite side as it is to others; I was starboard but my oar was to my left, sooooo...
But the ship was facing out of the dock (both at Castaway and Nassau), and facing the front of the ship our stateroom was on the left, so it was port, and so my views are port. I think.
