i reserved a saratog springs for march 2010 242 pts
I want to change it to akv value march 2010 201 pts (its available)

I used 100 banked points
100 of this use year points and borrowed 42 from next year

my use year is august what happens to the 41 points ?

Do they go in the reservation thingy
I know I have to use the borrowed points now but can I bank 41 of this years even though I made the ressie. This is my first reservation and I feel like I messed it up royally.

If I loose those 41 points I won't have enough for the next years vacation:eek:

I needs some words of wisdom from the pros :)

If you used 100 banked points and 100 2009 (August use year) points, you can bank 41 of these points into "next year" (2010).

If, by "this year's points," you mean the ones you received in August of 2008, which were current years points until last week, those returned points could not be banked. You'd be better off to keep the current reservation.

When you change the reservation, tell them to use the 100 banked points, 42 borrowed points and 59 current year (2009). That would leave the other 41 current year available to bank.

Just make sure you bank them at least four months before the end of the UY (meaning by the End of March 2010).

So even though the ressie was already made I can do this?

Why? ( i am not being rude I just don't know why)

From your original post, I thought you had not changed it yet to AKV for less points. If you have, you could ask them to reallocate it.

Regarding Grandbuddy's post, I think he meant if you couldn't bank the points and would lose them anyway, you may as well keep the higher point reservation.

MS should use the points that are banked and borrowed first and then as PP said you can bank the rest (41) points into next year. I am thinking you mean what happens if you change to a reservation with fewer points since you have already made the one with higher points. As long as you are within the banking deadline for this years points you can bank them. If you have changed the reservation already you can check your point status at the member website online and it will tell you how many points you have that are eligible to bank and when the banking deadline is for each use year.

Thank you so much to everyone that replied I THINK I UNDERSTAND NOW lol. I have made the original ressie but I have not changed it I will make sure they use they banked points (100) then 42 borrowed and the remainder current
THANKS SO MUCH!!

No, it doesn't sounds as if you messed up at all. You have a ressie for the time you want to go. If you can change it you will not use as many points. Just make certain they use the banked and borrowed points when you change and put the current points back into your UY. You can then bank them up until Mar 31, 2010.

As far as the "reservation thingy" I think you are worried about points in holding which only happens when you cancel or change a reservation at less than 31 days before the start of your stay. You are well outside that window and I would assume you are going to be calling right at your 7 month window to make the change so you'll be well within your banking window too. On that I'm assuming you need to bank although if your next intended ressie is before Aug 2010 then you don't need to do that.

And there actually are "reservation points" but those are points that have been used outside of the DVC hotels and if you cancel one of those reservations (such as staying at the Grand Floridian) then you need to use those points at another non DVC hotel.

Sorry to hi-jack...A month ago I made ressies for next June 2010 and am about to bank some FEB 09 UY points that we aren't going to use. Do I have to call after the points are banked and ask them to 're-allocate' the points used for our existing June 2010 ressie and specifically ask them to use the banked points?

You should be able to do it all with one call. They may not be able to "reallocate" them. It may be a question of cancelling the original reservation and rebooking based on availability. Have never had this happen but it is a good point and I would definitely make this request if I were you as I don't think it will happen unless you do .

Yes, unless there is already a waitlist for that June 2010 reservation.

Thanks for responding--sounds like I misunderstood the MouseServices lady I was talking with that day. I was going to bank the points when I called for the ressie (which was available and I immediately booked)--since I didn't need the points to complete the ressie and I have until Sept. to bank my points, she said there was no need to bank them right away--conversation was along the lines of just in case you change your mind and want to come back at christmas to see the decorations. She said banked points are always used first and 'they will take care of making the change whenever I do call back to bank my points'. I took that to mean 'automagically' it will happen. I'll be sure to specifically ask for the change.
