Did I do the right thing? Changed from 11B to 11C...

It's not too late to change it back, I'm pretty sure, so if I did something stupid hopefully I can fix it.

I booked an 11B last week the first day Canada bookings opened. There were no 11Cs open, but if there were, we would have booked that. I picked out a really nice 11B room on Deck 6 (it was even sideways!), and I was pretty pumped about our spot and stateroom.

However, tonight I go onto the DCL site to see how much the cruise is going for now, and I see the price dropped! I was like "huh?!?" until I realized that it was because they were selling 11Cs again.

I called DBF to see if he wanted to switch, explaining the GTY process to him. He was like "oh, alright... let's go for it." So I did. However, I thought that all 11Cs were sold as GTY, because they were used to drive sales... but when I got my new confirmation, we had a room number! :scared1:

Does this mean that we're going to be in an 11C, definitely? Or is there a possibility (considering that we're still over a year out) that they'll resell them?

I know it says everywhere that if you're not going to be happy in a category, don't book it. And it's not that I wouldn't be happy in an 11C, it's just that I really loved the stateroom I picked out in 11B, and would feel bad if I was incorrect about the GTY thing, and we will be down on Deck 2, right next to the tween club or something awful like that. :rotfl:

Thanks in advance guys... it's our graduation present to ourselves, so I want it to be fun, but still economical, which is the only reason I took this chance to save 50$ (now it can go to dinner at Palo!)

our 1st DCL will be next month but have cruised ~15 times- we have found that once you have been assigned a cabin the majority of the time you are not moved again. It sounds like you either booked a GTY and then were shortly thereafter assigned a cabin or you booked a cabin # from the beginning.

Everyone who is on a "GTY" with no cabin assigned will likely be assigned a cabin before you & they might sell 11C's GTY but you will probably be bypassed for moving cabins since they have already assigned you a cabin & the other people need assignments but thats just my guess.

I would lean towards you are likely not to be moved & will you be happy with where you are or is it worth it for you to spend the $50 and have the cabin you seem to be missing already

is there an 11C cabin you would be happy with? you could always call & see if they have one available that you are not able to see online, or since it is a long way out you could see if one comes available

Unless life has changed (and it seems that there are a lot of changes) 11C is sold only as gty. There are only 13 of these on the ship, all are on deck 2 under the nightclubs, and they commonly sell more than there really are. We were on one cruise where DCL sold over 100 cabins at the cat 12 (now 11C) price in order to fill up the ship. The REAL 11Cs are used for overflow CMs --they sometimes bring employees from WDW or extra DVC people on for special jobs--before they use them for guests.

The rule applies--if you won't be happy in any cabin on the whole ship, pay the extra $50 and get the sideways that you wanted. However...I'd probably take Palo and the chance of a cabin under the nightclubs over a sideways cabin (and they are nice).

The fact that you booked and got an assignment right away--what is the assignment? But again, ANY assignment on the ship can be changed!

Since you are into saving money, I trust that you booked on line, used a Disney Visa, and plan to transfer your ressie to a good TA--all ways to get a bit of onboard credit!

The only difference between the 11C and the 11B is the dect. Except the sideways part, I would never give that up, given the chance to have it, they seem to have more floor space. The difference in the price is usually not that much, I hope to get my favorite 11B booked on board in 2 weeks for one of my cruises next year. I am in an 11C, but if the price is not that much more, 11B sideways, 6th deck is it for me. On the Magic and Wonder. The Dream, I don't know about any of those cabins yet.

Don't worry OP, you will be fine. The size of the room is the same and it is very quiet on the lower decks, less movement from the sea and all.

I booked a GTY 11C on the Dream last may for this coming November, and I was assigned an 11C room last week. I was sort of hoping for an upgrade, but at the same time, I know I will have a short walk to the restaurant and I will have the TV Porthole.

That's what I thought, but I booked to NY cruises this week as 11C and have a room number on both instantly. I kind of like the mystery of the GTY, but guess it isn't like that after all...

OP, I personally like to save money on my room and go for the lowest category so we can either splurge for a nice souvie, a couple drinks, spa, etc or ultimately by saving money each time, book another cruise.

Life has changed, I booked 2 cruises last week, one out of NY and one on the west coast and got cabin assignments right then for 11C. I was surprised, especially the west coast cruise, so far it is just sitting there open.

I also have a friend who books 11C GTY and has never been moved.

Alright, thank you guys! We we see what happens. I doubt we'll be in the room that much, and once I'm asleep, you can't wake me up for anything, so if there is any noise from above (which reading reviews it doesn't seem like), I won't hear it.

I got assigned 2021, which I was surprised about since, like I said, over a year out.

Thanks for your input - I think we'll be good no matter what - at least we're on the boat.

The only time a cat 11C automatically gets upgraded is when DCL allows 4 people to book one. Since they only sleep 3 there is no other choice. It seems that they don't allow that too much anymore though.

We booked 11cs for the Eastern March 2012 and to our surprise we were assigned a room number for each room. Under the club. This was the most expensive cruise for us yet, ( March break ) and we honestly dont care where we sleep. We have a couple of rooms so we should be ok.This our 4th time booking 11c and we have yet to stay in one.

Yes, I would just stick with the 11C too and save the $50. We had rebooked our last cruise on board and at the time, only had 11B available. I switched us to 11C when it became available when we got home, but decided later to add my parents as well, at that time, they only had 11A, so I booked that for them. They were assigned a room, on Deck 10 of the Dream. I thought higher deck would be better too, so when another 11C opened up, I didn't bother moving them. It turned out our room on Deck 2 was MUCH quieter than their room on Deck 10. People have this misconception that lower deck is not good, but honestly, we have stayed on deck 1 of the Magic and now deck 2 of the Dream, and both times, our rooms were super quiet. With that said, DS7 is very excited to be on Deck 5 the next time we cruise. But he is 7 and he doesn't believe me when I tell him that Grandma and Grandpa's room was very noisy...he just has higher deck envy!
As you will find posts from other very seasoned cruisers, deck 2 is a real hidden gem.
And like you said, you probably won't spend much time in your room anyway! So I think it depends on the type of person you are, some people like lounging in their room and relax, but if you are more activities oriented and go go go, then save the $50 and enjoy Palo!

I could have chosen an 11C for the Canada June 17th sailing, and I purposely chose 11B with the ability to choose my own location, and I also chose a sideways. I debated internally about it, but in the end, I chose to go with the location that I liked and the "different" cabin.

It is just DH and me on this sailing, and last time we did a 12, we got a 12. It wasn't bad, in fact convenient to the nightclubs and adult pool, but the money isn't that much of a difference overall so I purposely chose 11B. Just another viewpoint:) However, it doesn't make the difference between getting a couple of extra drinks. If I had to limit something onboard because of the extra between B and C, I'd just stick with C.

If it were me, I think if it's really only $50 extra to move up to the cat 11B and also to get a sideways orientation that is what I would do. I've heard so many positive comments about those sideways cabins that it would be worth it to me.

I also booked an 11C for a Canada cruise and was assigned a cabin number. I liked taking my chances with an 11C gty on a previous Wonder cruise because I was upgraded to a cat. 9 on deck 2 midship. Right now my cabin is under Diversions, so I hope it won't be too noisy. On the other hand, there's a good chance this cruise will get moved to something in 2013, so I won't worry about the cabin location.

We booked an 11C for Hawaii and have been assigned a cabin number. If an oceanview opens up, we may switch. Depends on the rate.

I booked a cruise on the Fantasy for 2012, and my TA seemed kind of surprised when I specifically asked for a 9B rather than the 9A she'd quoted me. I would *MUCH* rather be on Deck 2 midship than Deck 5 or 6 forward! I've sailed on Deck 2 multiple times. It's quiet, it's convenient (especially when embarking/disembarking in the ports) it's WAY more stable from sea motion. And, as a bonus, it was less expensive! I'm fine with other people's misconceptions about the lower decks, because it leaves more availability for me!

Sayhello

Nothing wrong with deck 2. Much easier to disembark from Deck 1 and 3 (and when you get back on the ship you do not have to wait with the hordes who need elevators) and to get to the restaurants and bars. The only difficulty I remember encountering with the tween club were when they would get bored and push every button in the elevator. I think the 11 Cs are all forward - had one right underneath the Cadillac Lounge on the Wonder which was dead quiet.

Good to know other people agree Deck 2 is quiet... I didn't know if the reviewers were accurate when they said it was, because of the nightclubs right above. Disney might have taken that into consideration when designing the ship though... who knows. Also good to know about the fact you don't feel the waves as much.

Booked an 11c and got an 11c for 4 people on the Dream. Way too small. No drawer space. Left most stuff in the suitcase. Hard to get out from side of bed.

Cadillac Lounge is the piano bar. It's very very sedate for a nightclub. If you want quiet, be on that side (same bar is called Sessions on the Magic)

Are you able to switch to a TA after final payment is made and if you booked via phone with Disney? Booked a inside Gty as Disney allowed us to book 4 in the room but other websites wouldn't let you book more then 3. This was a 25% savings over booking a specific room.
