Did I book too many villas?

I am starting to think that I am wasting points on our trip in October. There is going to be 7 adults and 5 kids. I have booked a 1BR for my family of 4, a 2BR for sis's family of 5 and my parents, and a studio for my brother. I didn't think it was fair to ask my 25 year old brother to share a bed with a 4 year old nephew. But now I am starting to think that I have used too many points and am taking up too much space that others could be using. I tried to change the 1BR to a studio but they were booked. Should I keep what I have or try to switch somewhere else at the 7 month window? I picked our home resort BWV initially because it our favorite and my parents won't have far to travel to the parks that we will probably visit the most. But OKW is roomy....

All advice is appreciated!

Thanks!

you should have went to a GV............

They are your points, you are free to use them as you wish. Your 25 yo brother may appreciate having a quiet room all to himself. I think your plans are fine.

I think your plan is fine. Some might suggest a GV to maximize togetherness, but we always book multiple rooms so that family units have the ability to some complete privacy. It really is personal preference. You need to think about the particular needs of YOUR group.

I think your plan is fine. I think a family of 4 is more comfortable in a 1 bedroom than a studio. Heck, I usually have 2 in a 1 bedroom! 7 might even be stretching a 2 bedroom.

The way I understand it- you booked a 1BD+ST+2BD. Technically this is the same as 2 X 2BD. You would save a few points a day if booked as 2 2BDs, plus you would be quaranteed close together. Your brother would still have his own room. But if it were me (and I wish it were) I would use the opportunity to try out the GV and save points at the same time. But I agree with everyone else-- only you know the family dynamics and know whats best.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I had originally contemplated a GV but then decided that it wouldn't be fair to stick someone in the living room in case they wanted to sleep in. I was thinking that with the 2BR kids would be in the living room and they will be up any ways. And if my brother ends up brining a guest then we would be over occupancy.

Well I'll just be green with envy. I am trying to plan a big trip for 2007 for my family! Have an awesome time.

I would try to get OKW instead of BW - less points and more room.

then everyone meet in your sister livingroom - not yours....

of course bring this many of your family you are probably alot friendlier than I would be....

you realize that after this trip - everyone will expect this of you from now on.....make it plain that you are giving up alot of your family time and vacation space for this trip.

spiceycat,
Unfortunatley I know all about the family that expects more. We took DH's side of the family in November and they tried to take sooooo much advantage of it! They won't be invited again no matter how much they beg! The trip that we have planned for October is our last big family trip for several years. It is a make up trip because last Jan we were all supposed to go but my mom had unplanned surgery at the last minute so we had to cancel. We have made it clear, no univited guests with you, we will be doing what we want to do, you are welcome to join us but don't get upset if you missed something you wanted to see, etc. Hopefully all will go well. I got an e-mail for sis today about how excited they are. Planning for family trips is the part that I enjoy, sharing the magic with others. :D

I also e-mail sis and asked if she thinks maybe OKW would be better for us. I want their imput, but I'll make the final decsion. Of course, if their imput is the cheaper route, I might jump on it. I am guessing that it will be easy to get into OKW since everyone will want to be at BWV or BCV for Fodd & Wine. Is this assumption correct?

Your ressies sound fine to me. I just booked a 2 bedroom for 4, a studio for 3, and another studio for 2 (all adults). The "old folks" (42-53 yr old range) will occupy the 2 bedroom, while the "kids" (25-40 yr old range), will stay in the studios. I plan on using the LR as a "hospitality suite" where we can meet/hang out, etc.

A GV would not work for us, as we need our space, and we have several who have strong personalities. ;)

I would think so - however make sure you can get OKW before you let MS cancel BW.

too many DIs (not just DVC's) have learned how great the food/wine festavial are - and WDW resorts for that time are now selling out - one reason why it is now regular season - not off season on the WDW hotel rates.

You really should consider booking a 2 Bedroom for your family and your brother instead of the 1 Bedroom and the Studio. They are the exact same thing except less points. A 2 Bedroom is a 1 Bedroom and a stuido right next to each other. Also, since you are at Boardwalk there are no dedicated 2 bedrooms so you won't end up in one of those.

I agree with Terry. Besides less points, it's much much more social to get the second 2br, unless your brother likes privacy.

Good luck!...

Which unit are you in? You had better make sure you have the nicest , most comfortable one, because you deserve it! I did a big family "do" when I first got my points, and it didn't go well, so now I hoard my points. I have been called lots of names because I won't share points, and they weren't kidding. I hope you don't find yourself in a similar situation--of course, you were nice enough to take the other side of the family, too, and they were still alive at the end of the trip, so I think you must be Mother Teresa in disguise! :boat:

I would have to agree with Chuck S they are your points and I am sure your Brother will appreciate the quiet time in his own room go and enjoy your vacation it sounds like you have a great trip planned for your family.
