Did Hawaii reopen today at Poly today?? Anyone there now??!!

Sorry I am so late.
I will be posting a complete trip report this weekend or so.
We had a great trip and spent a very nice evening at the volcano pool chatting with another fellow veteran by the name of Skiwee. Skiwee and I will be collaborating on a joint trip report.

Back to the Hawaii

We checked in to the Poly on October 10 and stayed at the Tahiti. Circling the Hawaii building there was a large green wooden screen. On or around Monday, Oct.13 I was walking by the Hawaii and I couldn’t help but notice my favorite scent, brand new carpet. On Tuesday and Wednesday the green screen came down. Wednesday morning my wife had walked down to the Volcano pool and commented to me that between the walkway and the Hawaii there was nothing but solid mud. I bet her by the end of the day it would be planted with sod and plants. I won the bet! Wednesday afternoon I noticed they had replaced some of the decking and railing on the stairs at the opposite end from the concierge lounge and on Thursday it was painted. It also seemed evident to me that the whole building's exterior had a fresh coat of paint. In my opinion the Hawaii building looked brand new. Also on Thursday the CMs were cleaning all of the furniture on the patios.

On Friday afternoon Concierge was moved from the Tahiti to the Hawaii so we went over for an afternoon snack. The slate floor covering on the perimeter of the floor had been sealed and brand new carpet covered all three floors, the carpet had a Animal Kingdom flavor, it was very nice and went well with the furnishings". The interiors had a fresh coat of paint as well as the interior stair rails. It appeared the wallpaper below the bamboo chair rail in the hallways had been removed and replaced with texture and paint ‘bad move” It didn’t appear that the carpet in the halls were replaced. I didn't have a chance to check out the rooms but I have no doubt they are in the same first class condition.

While we were there Oct 4 - 11 we talked to a CM and this is what he told us....

They were doing the rehab on the older buildings to pretty much bring them up to code and up to date as far as the "structure" itself. He said they were replacing things like insulation, plumbing and heating systems, some electrical work. He said the actual look of the building would be the same.....it was not a cosmetic rehab, but a structural one. So most folks may not even recognize a change.

But from what we could see, they still may be replacing some carpet,etc. So some things may look newer or like they really did a good job cleaning it up.

We stayed in Tokelau while we were there and by the time we left they only had the fence in the front of the building. Looked like they were done with the rooms in the back facing the quiet pool.
And yes, it only took a matter of hours to put down the new sod, etc in the back. Amazing to see nothing but mud in the morning and by mid afternoon......beautiful!!!

Hi Searl - I hate to be a nitpicker but I have a couple of questions about your information. You first said that there was brand new carpet on all 3 floors and then you said that it didn't appear that the carpet in the halls had been replaced. I'm confused... is there new carpet or not?

Also you said the wallpaper below the chair rail had been removed and replaced and then you wrote "bad move".. what does that mean?

The Carpet in the three floors of the Concierge Lounge was replaced. It didn't appear to me that the Carpet in the hallways were replaced as they didn't look new, but in pretty good shape. I didn't enter any of the rooms but I am confident that the carpet was replaced. I stayed in the Hawaii in Oct. 02 and at that time they looked to me they needed replacing. While walking down the hall I noticed the wall had a scuff mark about 4,ft. long on the wall. I was pretty sure the hallways in the Tahiti had wallpaper below the bamboo chair rail. This change looks to me as a maintenance Nightmare Before Christmas.

Thanks for all the updates Searlproudbottom. The paint replacing the wallpaper sounds like what was done in the other refurbished longhouses. Was there some coral paint around the doorways? I imagine paint is better than wallpaper ar resisting mold and mildew. Cheaper too although I hope that's not why it was used.

I don't remember seeing any coral paint around the doorways.
I did take some dynamite photos of the resort and a photo of the concierge lounge. I would be happy to Email them to you if you wish.
