Did anyone watch the HBO documentary 'There's something wrong with Aunt Diane'?

The more I learn the more it sure does sound like she may have committed suicide. The only piece that does not fit to that is why would she take her children and nieces with her.

I think about her being ticked at her husband and doing something like this to once again be in ultimate control. The documentary stated from more than a few people that swerved out of her way on the Taconic that she wasnt weaving - was speeding and had no reaction what so ever on her face as they passed her going the wrong way. They stated that she was looking straight ahead and staying straight along the line.

Is it true that she travelled the same road the right way before turning around and entering the wrong way? It would seem that maybe she was scouting the curve where the accident occurred.

Also, I think her son is repeating what he has heard more so that what he remembers.

I find it so odd that she never told her husband when she had doctor and dentist visits and he had no idea what medications she was taking and for what reason. Their relationship was odd and strained at best. Did you see where his mom said Daniel was like Diane's oldest son not a husband. That would get old quick.

One things is for certain she was an ultimate control freak. Every person interviewed brought that up.

They're not positive how she got there. I think one or two people said they saw a minivan matching that description traveling north not long before the accident but police aren't positive if it was her.

I've always suspected it was a suicide.

Here's another youtube video from the same guy, and he presents a very compelling interpretation of the events. I think he is spot on, actually, with his version of what could have happened. I go with his theory.

Wow funny that the documentary didn't show the whole video of her pulling out of the gas station........talk about almost crashing as she pulled out fast into traffic without even stopping before pulling out...as if the road was hers and hers only....why did the Documentary not show this? Not to mention not having others on that told the other side of Diane and interviewed more than like 5 people that were all her friends...if she was like they said she was and was strong headed and said what she thought she had to have many that did not like her at al

Watch at -9:38 of video when at gas station...Sorry on iPad so cat post link but it is the one above from the post I quoted.

She sure didnt evoke any warm and cuddly images.

Right from the beginning the SIL said yay! she likes me, I didn't know. When Diane asked her to be the daughters godmother. The girls she was friends with seemed to be more afraid of her than care why the friendship ended 10 years prior. Someone else said she either liked you or she didn't and you knew it.

Seems like she went through life pretty unhappy and guessing that all started when her mom left them when she was 9.

I didn't watch the documentry cause I don't have HBO, but did the car go airborn at any point in time? Or did he just "fly" out of his seat hence why he ended up on the bottom of a heap?

Did not go airborne....and as for him being thrown from the seat at point of compact at 70 miles an hr he was most likely knocked out and would remember nothing...the impact killed 8 that's how hard they hit.

I am curious if they had seat belts on....they never gave any info on the condition of the others except they were all in a pile onto of each other with the boy at the bottom of the pile.

Could you imagine the impact of a car heading one way at 60 mph and the other car going 70 mph slamming into you....and the impact resulting from that...it is a miracle that he lived.

I also found that odd.
The sil made a point of saying the boys statement was unwavering....he said "mommy's head hurt & I flew like superman".
Personally I don't believe the little boy ever said that.
He sustained a serious head injury, so remembering anything from the accident is highly unlikely and as the above poster pointed out he was not ejected from the vehicle.

I don't either.. I think he is repeating what was said to him at some point...

I don't think it was suicide. Why would she need to stop and buy Advil if she were planning on killing herself in an hour or so. Also, there are much easier ways to kill yourself than head on collision with kids in the car. She had the pills to do it that way if she wanted to do that.

I agree. I can't begin to guess at what was going through that woman's mind but I really don't think it was suicide.

I have never been inside a gas station convenience store that did not sell pain reliever. I know they said they interviewed the store clerk, but it was that shady PI that found the Sunoco tape. It was his team that said the clerk said she was looking for painkillers.

The investigator was hired by Danny to find positive evidence that Diane was NOT drunk before the crash. There is even suspicion that the PI might have doctored the video. He did hand over a copy to state police though.

I found an unedited version on the website video library. She was at the gas station for over 5 minutes. She did pump gas. You see her paying at the pump. After she pumps the gas you see her open the driver's door and reach in. I'm thinking she put her credit card back in her wallet. She is walks from the car and heads into the store. You then see her come out 15 seconds later. She has her keys in her hand, but no credit card or purse. She does a quick sweep of the store and asks the clerk something. (you do see the clerk at the beginning of the video).

Who knows what she asked, but I doubt she would have walked into a store looking for anything without a means to pay for it. Maybe she asked about a liquor store or just simple directions, etc.

The undoctored video doesn't make it seem that she is pulling out fast either.

Maybe the clerk's statement never really existed in the first place. There is tons of information on this private investigator. He looks very immortal. He got to be on Oprah, Larry King, etc defending Diane. He was paid to defend Diane. It looks like he wouldn't even talk to the documentary people without being paid. I wouldn't go on what he says about the gas station video.

I still say suicide. Yes, she was taking out her children as well, but many people do the same thing everyday.

What pills did she have on her that morning? I didn't read anything about that. People do overdose and kill themselves with Tylenol. I believe its the #1 pill overdose killer ahead of illicit drugs even.

I thought the prescriptions they found were from a couple of years before the accident.

I should have posted a video link...she walks to the store at about the 3 minute mark.

Interesting... she walks right past the clerk.. looks like towards the coffee area..stops turns , pauses a moment by the clerk and leaves...

I wonder if anyone can read her lips.... probably not since she is at an angle...

I also agree that she does not appear to drive aggressively as she enters traffic...

Yes there are much easier ways to kill yourself, but as a 911 dispatcher for 5 year I know that people don't always choose the easy out. And for her to take the kids and kill herself it was the show of ultimate coltrol.

Not sure about the stop at the store and the call to the brother. Maybe she was looking for a reason not to do it and she didn't find it with either one.

I don't remember, so someone please tell me if I'm wrong, the aggressive driving didn't start (no calls to 911 or police) until she got on the parkway. So why would she drive like that only on the parkway right after the call to the husband by the tappen Zee. Please correct if I'm not remembering this correctly.

I really think it was on purpose the final it's all about me and I have all the control.

No the aggressive driving started on the Thruway. It was there that she cut a couple of people off before pulling into the Ramapo Service Area.

ETA
I don;t think there were any 911 calls until she was seen driving the wrong way on the Taconic. She was driving aggressively but not enough that people called 911.

IIRC she only talked to her brother and SIL not her husband.

Thx for the video link.. I see beer cases and bottles in the convenience store, maybe she was just strictly a vodka person but its something I noticed. Other thing was if she was blitzed I can see driving in the far right lane on the Taconic since she probably thought she was in the right lane and wouldn't think anything of people coming at her in the other lanes.

Just me personally but I never take my purse into a gas station, I usually just stick my credit card in my back pocket especially after pumping gas, but dont think she was in there looking for advil or anything.

I don't think she did it to commit suicide either. It's just not how ppl usually take themselves out and there is no guarantee that a wreck would kill her and all the kids if that was what she wanted to do.

I think she was so intoxicated she didn't realize she was driving the wrong way on the highway. But who knows WHY she drank so much and smoked pot during that trip.

Nobody will ever know.

I do not have HBO, so thanks for talking about the highlights. I cannot comment on the show but I can add:

If she was a closet alcoholic, a .19% (190 mg/dl) is not unusual, nor that high.

I used to work in a DUI processing center. We would get alcoholics in for a blood draw at 9am, after not drinking since they went to bed. They would wake UP with a 100mg/dl level and appear perfectly fine and function through their day. Functional Alcoholics is the term we used. They were priests, lawyers, warehouse workers, every walk of life.

I have seen alcohol levels of 600-800 mg/dl and the people are walking talking and far from being in acute medical distress. Yes, they were drunk and you knew it, but you would never, ever guess the level was that high.

We used to have a game of "guess the level" when they came in, and like the Price is Right you had to be the closest without going over. Sick, maybe, but it passed the time.

An alcoholics mind and liver does not process like a normal persons. Has the autopsy report been released? Do we know if there was chronic liver damage?

I would be VERY interested to know how much she drank the night prior.

That was interesting to read - thanks! Yes, -released autopsy report found no evidence of chronic alcoholism in Diane Schuler's liver, pancreas, stomach or esophagus.
