Thirsty for information over here. :D

Virtual hugs to anyone who will provide info or pics from the open house! Thanks!

I'm at OKW now and was thinking of "popping over" to SSR this afternoon for a quick look. Then I found out that you had to park at West Side and I assume be bussed over, so I didn't have time. In driving the back road to SSR and on Buena Vista to Downtown Disney this week, I was surprised how large the resort is. Many of the buildings close to Buena Vista are partially constructed, some are still in the footer stage. I said this before, I think they are going to have the same problem as Boardwalk, those lake views are going to be coveted, there are not that many in relation to the total number of rooms.

THanks for the info, Debbie. And yes, I agree. I know they have said that they won't do another two-tiered point structure, but surely those lakeview rooms will be valued! But who knows? Perhaps some will have golf course views? That would be pleasant as well.

Not a problem for those of use going in the next week or so. Looks as though the bulk of the units in that first building will have lake views. At least I think that the building closest to the water is the one that they are opening first. Looks as though it is right next to the firewords platform.

Yes, we took the walking tour at SSR today. Took lots of photos, but unfortunately don't have the required ftp software on the laptop to upload any photos.

The resort is very large and seeing the rooms in the actual buildings was much better than how they look at the preview center at boardwalk.

The combined snack-n-go / merchandise area is quite nice and will be nice for those who want that quick breakfast or snack sandwich, pizza, etc but don't want to cook.

I'm not an expert on spas but this one is very nice. Did learn the spa is not being operated by DVC but by a different Disney group not connected any way with DVC. They had about a dozen different spa treatment rooms and very nice men/women lockers, both with sauna, steam room, and spa. The exercise room has a lot of new equipment in it.

The turf club is nice but not restricted to DVC guests but will be open to the general public.

The check-in area is huge with the high ceiling being the focal point.

The main pool is very large and the slide looks like fun. There's a cute water spraying area with a Donald Duck figure where the kids can have fun. The other pool, the quiet pool has a great view across the lake of DD. Also by the quiet pool is a very large viewing area to observe fireworks at DD (assuming you're out there at midnight)

There is a community hall split into two sections and they will be having member updates at SSR, but possibly in the sales area and not in the community hall. There is also an area similar to Hanks at OKW where you can rent bicycles, etc.

There is also a very large Arcade with lots of games there.

The sales center was not open for the tour.

Landscaping is great and what you would expect of Disney.

Caskbill (or anyone else), does the golf course run through the area where the villas are being built? Will it be possible to have views similar to those at OKW?

No, the golf course is totally off to the side of the resort and nowhere near the villas themselves.

SSR is being built with lots of water areas so EVERY villa will be near water with a water view.

Is the Turf Club a bar? How will the general public get in?

Yes, generally it's a bar/lounge area. It's located basially above the club house for the golf course. My guess is it will probably only be used by DVC members staying at SSR or by golfers using the golf course. The golf course is of course open to the public.

dvc_john here (using caskbill's laptop and sign-on).

Just wanted to add that this is one fantastic resort - DVC really outdid themselves with this one! The landscaping is the best of any DVC resort.
While the High Rock Springs pool is really great (with a very nice slide), I think my favorite place to be will be the leisure pool lakeside in front of buildings 2 and 3.
There are a lot of common areas with lounges, commuity rooms, arcades, etc. everywhere. The Turf Club has billiards/pool table, and there will be an outside lounge adjacent to it. The Artist's Palette is very well done also.

Thanks for the report, Caskbill. The landscaping does look beautiful in all these new pics. Not that I was expecting anything bad, but I am really floored by how gorgeous this place is shaping up to be.

It sounds a lot better than I was anticipating. I can't wait to see it!
