Maybe I am dreaming, but I could swear that I heard that some how are military already knows that there are lots of Iraqi trops who plan to surrender. Was that a HOPE or do they know that? I am worried that someone is putting out false info and they won;t surrender.

"There is no magic pixie dust."
"It's for you - it's the Genie."
"I don't know - it says I need to put in another quarter."
Those commercials are great!

Back OnTopic now . . .

This from Reuters:

Nearly 2 million leaflets were dropped on 29 military and civilian sites in the south, many warning Iraqi civilians to stay away from military targets and providing exact steps for Iraq's forces to surrender without a fight in any invasion, a U.S. announcement from the region said.
The Pentagon (news - web sites) wants Iraqi troops in the South to stand aside when tens of thousands of American and British troops are expected to advance northward from Kuwait toward the oil fields around Basra en route to Baghdad.
"To avoid destruction," the leaflets advised, Iraqi soldiers should abandon their tanks and vehicles and gather in unarmed groups at least a half-mile away.
White flags must be displayed on vehicles and only officers may retain pistols or other side arms, the notes advised. Artillery and air defense systems must be parked in travel formation and no shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missiles can be displayed.
"Do not approach coalition forces. Wait for further instructions," the leaflets said.
U.S. military sources said on Wednesday that 17 Iraqi soldiers had given themselves up to U.S.-led forces in northern Kuwait. They provided no further details.

Yes it is true, those soldiers on the outskirts have already tried to surrender but were sent back since war had not yet been declared. They will surrender and when the front line moves forward they will be in their barracks now behind the front lines. Saddam has been a monster to his own people for years, Iraquis want to be free. This does not mean that all troops will surrender peacefully of course. Too bad that won't be the case, Saddam won't go down without a fight.
