Did anyone else have a problem at Walgreens?

First off let me start by thanking everyone who has worked so dilligently on these boards to help us to save money. Whether it be on groceries, beauty products, free samples, toys, every little bit I have saved here will be more I have to spend at Disney! :cheer2:

I have been following the grocery and Walgreens threads on a daily basis and have incorporated many of the suggestions offered into my own savings. Today I went to Walgreens to buy the Gillette M3 Power Razor deal where you buy a Razor and get the 4 pack free combined with the manufacturer's coupon, so in effect you are getting the razor free + a dollar back.

I gave the cashier my coupons and he looked at it and scanned it and then the problems started. :confused3 He had to enter in an amount for the coupon and he wasn't sure what of the amount he should enter so he needed to call the Manager over. The Manager looks at everything and the receipt and says it's not possible to do it because they would have to give me money back. I show him the add and tell him that it says "look for coupons in most Sunday papers". Also, it wasn't like I was getting cash back because I was buying $30 worth of other stuff. It took 5 minutes of begging, arguing, reasoning to get him to do it. I was planning to try and snag more coupons, but after all that I don't think I will try it!

Am I the only one who had a problem????

I don't think stores ever plan to give you $ back -- they just give you the item for free. My grocery store doubles coupons and I have a few free items most weeks. In many cases, the doubled coupon was MORE than the price, but I don't get a refund. For example, if I had a 50-cent coupon for an item that was 79 cents, my receipt will say -50 for the coupon and -29 for the doubled part. If the item was over $1, it would say -50 and -50. Does that make sense?

At my grocery store, the computer is set up to take care of these issues. It sounds like Walgreen's isn't. Free items can be confusing, though. I once had a BOGOF coupon for an item the grocery store had BOFOF and someone from customer service had to come deal with it!

Yes, I also had trouble. Today was my first try at Walgreens. First of all, we DIDN'T have the Gillette coupons in our papers this past Sunday, so I didn't get that great deal. Bummer. Still, I was going to get the pork and beans and diapers for free (after rebate) and donate them to our church's food pantry.

The beans were 3 for $1 with the Walgreens coupon, plus I had three 40 cent coupons. So they should have been free. When she scanned the coupons the register refused the last one and she said it was because the three coupons totaled $1.20 and since the beans were only $1 total I couldn't do it. So I just used 2 of the coupons, figuring 3 cans for 20 cents total was still good.

This will be my first month doing the rebates, so I hope that goes well.

I didn't get a chance to use the coupons because both walgreens in my town were out. One was out of razors adn the other out of blades. I'm so mad because I know that even if I get a rain check (do they do that?) that they won't let me use the coupons with it. I just spent $8 ordering coupons, some duplicates of this one and i'm not going to be able to use them.

You need to be sure to get rainchecks every time you go into WG & they don't have the product. Find out when their truck comes in & get there with the RC that afternoon. :)

If I get a raincheck, do you think the whole deal will still work? I'm thinking not, I don't want to go in there and it be a big hassle. I plan on going back tomorrow to see if they've gotten any more in. If not, I'll get rainchecks. But the deal is no good for me if they won't take the MFC as well. I guess all I can do is try :confused3

Now I'm really getting frustrated. I had to drive by Walgreens today, so I decided to stop and see if they got any razors in. I actually found some! But they wouldn't let me use the coupon. She was going to get the manager, but I didn't have time. I'm going to go back tomorrow (hopefully I'll have my other coupons that I ordered). ANyone have ideas on how to get them to let me use it? I'm going ot buy a lot of stuff tomorrow, so hopefully the cahsier won't even notice that they price of the blades has already come off. Thats my strategy for now. Any tips in case they tell me no?

I have stopped going to walgreens because of all of the problems.

The merchandize that is listed in the circular is never in the store.

The merchandize that is on sale never rings up on sale and then when I say that is on sale the cashiers always argue that it is not on sale.

The coupons never work.

The whole place is a mess and if I complain to the headquarters all I ever get is a "so so sorry, here is a free gift card to come back to our store"

Well, I DON'T WANT TO GO BACK! I have driven an extra few miles late at night past the 24 hour Walgreens to go to the 24 hour CVS just because I refuse to go there anymore!

Here's how I explained it to the puzzled teenage clerk:

The fact that the blades are free is a STORE SALE. Walgreen's has always allowed coupons to be used on SALE items. By buying the razors and refills, I'm fulfilling the requirements of the coupon and the store will be reimbursed, so there's no reason not to take it.

As far as overage goes, some stores allow it and some don't. CVS has their computers programmed not to allow it. When the last coupon beeps, I just ask them to input the exact amount that will make the transaction come out to zero. For example, to the poster who was talking about the beans, I would have asked them to input the coupon for .20. I know at CVS is works like a charm. It's annoying though, because the store gets reimbursed for the full value of the coupon, so why not pass the savings on to the consumer? Alot of times at CVS the overage is just a few pennies anyway.
