We were in the "Black out" too & it was horrible! I think I missed my A/C the most but my 8 y/o DS drove me crazy! He kept following me around the house (even though he had his own flashlight & his Daddy was in the same room!) It was funny though how many times I tried to turn on a light switch!

My DH & I & my 8 y/o DS slept downstairs on the main level in our familyroom on our patio furniture cushions, which I placed on the floor, because our bedroom (upstairs) was waaaaay too hot. We did let baby sleep in his crib but striped down to his diaper. He was fine.

Lucky for us, we had bottled water in the house, as well as batteries & lots of food. My DH & son missed cable TV the most. I missed the internet! :teeth:

Had to toss lots of stuff from my fridge today when power finally came back on. That hurt. All in all though, we faired well. We are still asked to boil our water if we want to drink tap water since there are still problems with the purificaiton systems.

Anyone else care to share their Blackout experience?

I finally got home Friday @approx. 9am. Power finally came on around 6:50 pm Friday! I am not having a vert good year & this didn't help! I am proud to be a NY'er & have never been prouder of how well NY'ers handled yet another crisis! God Bless us all & hope everyone has there power fully back soon! Kathy ;)

No problems at home we had power the whole time, I live north of chelsea.

At work we lost all power, I work in ypsilanti at the GM plant. Had just started work at 3:30 power went out a little after 4pm. went home at 5:30. So I and many others have missed 2 days work because of the blackout. :bounce: :Pinkbounc

I know what it is like without power. We live in the country and ours has been out quite a few times in summer and winter.
When we lose power we also have no water since we have a well and the pump cannot run. Plus we have an electric stove so cannot cook either.

When we lived in the city and lost power we still had running water, could still flush toilets, and had a gas stove and could cook.

We just got our power back (12:30 a.m.), and I live in Troy, MI. I don't even want to open my fridge tomorrow  !!! Now if we could shower or drink the tap water.........

Checking in from Clinton Twp. We got our power back around 5:00 today. We only had to throw away a few things, milk, mayo, eggs etc.) I think I got the last 4 bags of ice in Michigan last night around 6:30 and that saved us. We drove out to Brighton today, they had electricity, had lunch did some shopping and waited 45 minutes in line for gas!!!:( It was far better than sitting here all day complaining about the heat:rolleyes:

Hannahsmom: I grew up in the Utica/Shelby area. 21 and Schoenherr

we are in st clair shores......my mom and dad are in clinton twp....15/harper area. I felt bad for them and as we started getting stuff to bring them "our" power went on. Got over there and they had this big water main break and had no water/power. we cooked them fish on the grill and brought them bottled water........Their power went on about 10pm. They still lost alot of food in the fridge/freezer.

We kinda lucked out.......our trailer (32 foot) was still in the drive....we stuck all our fridge stuff in the trailer fridge (propane) and most of the freezer stuff...........

Queens, NY here. We were out from 4:11 pm on Thursday till 8:30 am on Friday.

Walked over the 59th Street Bridge to get home on Thursday.

I am a survivor of the Power Outage of '65, '77 and now '03. Each one has it's own story.

We still have no cable.

We are in Westchester County, NY and were out of power from Thursday afternoon until Friday at 1:30 am....

My parents are in another town and they didn't get power until just at 6:30 pm!!! over 26 hours later!

It was not fun at all... trying to get the kids to sleep w/o the A/C's on ... they were miserable!

But, even though the electricity is on, we are trying not to overload everything!

Hope everyone is back up now!

DD Holly (sydally9367) lives in West Point, NY and was out. They were fortunate in one way in that they got power at 10:30 on Thurs. night.

The unfortunate part was that she and her DH were supposed to go into the city on Fri. night to spend a romantic night at the Marriott Marquis in Time Sq. So we had to do some scrambling yesterday and make new reservations for tonight somewhere else (Marquis was booked for tonight). All in all.....they made out OK.

I was out from 4:30 - 10:30 pm. There was a slight wind all day until the power went out. Then it got real still :(

I was at work when the power went out. 3.5 hour drive home was not fun:rolleyes:

We lost power at 4:15pm and didn't get it back until 4:30pm on friday. Last night we had to go to a Funeral Home (brothers FIL) that had no power. Paying your last respect by candle light was a first.

Good News DTE (Detroit Edison) said that all 2.1 million customers have thier power back!!! Bad News, They are asking everyone to turn off thier AC by noon today. Utherwise they will have to start rolling blackouts.

We are going to the Woodward Dream Cruise today( a classic car show along Woodward Ave.) so I have no problem turning the AC off today.

Hope everyone that lost power has got it back.

We were without power from 6pm until 3am! With the heat, it was horrible!! I had to throw out everything in my refrigerator by the morning!

Across the street they had power, and a few blocks away they had power. THAT was very frustrating! I guess it's the way the power grids are set up!

NE Ohio here.
Thankfully, we were only without power for 5 hours. We were also under a boil alert.
Cleveland was/is a mess, though.

It was interesting reading everyone's different stories regarding the 03 Black Out! It was also very interesting to see how close some Dis'ers live to me! I'm near Lakeside Mall (a stone's throw matter of fact!)

I didn't hear about turning the A/C off at noon though. That doesn't make me happy... :( I was just starting to cool off! WAAAAAAH!!!!!

I'm sorry, but there is NO WAY I am turning my AC off! I'll keep all other electrical use to a minimum, but I need air. Especially with the forecast for today - 90 degrees and 85% humidity.

Glad to hear everyone is doing OK!:)

We were without power from approx. 4:30 p.m. until approx. 3:00 a.m. It was soooooo hot!! Luckily, we did buy a generator during the horrible ice storm this winter, so we were able to keep our food cold and have some lights and TV. The worst part was no air conditioning. All in all it was okay! No real problems. Just strange!

Mishetta!

How is that sweet baby doing??

We got our power back on at about 2:00 here in Livonia, but didn't get any water until about 10:00 last night. We have plenty of bottled water, but I missed my shower most of all. Right now I have a sink full of dirty dishes and a load in the dishwasher ready to go. With that boil water alert, I guess I can't wash the dishes yet.

I HAD to turn on the A/C for awhile last night. I am not running any appliances today because I fear a rolling black out. Our best friend in Cleveland is experiencing those. He gets 2 hours on and 2 hours off.

I just have to wonder what this is all going to cost when the final numbers are in. The auto companies are already hurting and this just adds to the punch!

I live in Ontario. My power was out at 4:30 and got back on the following morning at 11:45. Our phones were out for most of Fri. and my internet connection is just up now. When the power went out I went out and bought ice even before we knew how bad it was. My freezer and fridge both had big bags of ice and I don't think I have lose anything. We didn't open the freezer and only opened the fridge a couple of times. Thank goodness we camp and have a tent trailer because we used the propane until it gave out (DH forgot to fill our tanks) and then started using our coleman stove. We didn't lose our water at all. Everyone here was really great. Citizens were directing traffic at intersections or everyone was treating them as a 4 way stop. People here were really great.

We never lost water pressure, but I guess we still have to boil it until they give the all clear.

I'm sorry, but there is NO WAY I am turning my AC off! I'll keep all other electrical use to a minimum, but I need air. Especially with the forecast for today - 90 degrees and 85% humidity

So if SE Michigan has rolling blackouts can we blame you?:teeth:

If you get your house cool and then close all the drapes ext... It should stay cool for a few hours. They think that we should be able to start running the A/C some time after 8:00pm when the demand drops.

We are spending the night at the Embassy Suites in Troy.
DW family from the west side of the state (MI) always comes in for the Dream Cruise weekend.

Mine came back on about 12:30 am this morning I live in Clarkston (north west oakland county)

Mishetta, my brother lives at 23 and Hayes(sp)

Soooooo glad my power is on I am using my air just a little, I only turned it on once today and got the house cool and not just have a fan going and it is staying cool in here,

We had no water problems, I had water the whole time I live in Independence Twp and called and they told me our water is fine no need to boil...
