Did anyone buy DVC sight unseen?

We did too - vwl in 2001. My dh wants to know why we didn't pay any attention to the dvc boothes in our earlier trips. :confused3

Yes, we bought at Beach Club Villas in Oct. 2002 sight unseen. In fact, I never saw any DVC properties or didn't know much about it at all! When we were down for our trip in Feb. 2001 we stopped at a kiosk at MGM for literally 30 seconds and flipped a page or two and kept walking. My sister and BIL bought into it and showed me their member book, etc. They are the cheapest people I know, so if they spent that much $$ on DVC, I KNEW it had to be good! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: A few months later we purchased. I am glad we did. I like to go many different places, but I also like to go to WDW alot too. It's the only place that I would go over and over again. We were very pleased on our first trip home. We also bought at VWL recently and never saw it, but knew it had to be as good as the others.

Bought BWV last year witout ever seeing BWV because we like the BW area and love Disney.

Added on this month too!

And we have yet to stay at BWV! First trip there will bein October.

We bought our first contract sight unseen in May 2000 at the BWV. We added on 70 more points before our first stay. Then we bought 100 points at the BCV sight unseen. Since then we have added on twice more at the BWV. It is addicting and easily the best major purchase we have ever made.

After staying at the Wilderness Lodge in '96, I made a promise to myself that if they ever built a DVC property at the Wilderness Lodge I would buy a contract no matter what.. and I did.... sight unseen and I have never been sorry I did. The Villas at the Wilderness Lodge is a wonderful resort and is perfect in meeting my needs.

To be honest, Disney doesn't build a bad resort no matter what. Everyone may not like the resort but it's never a bad one. When you purchase I will say this... buy where you want to stay.... I can't stress that enough.

We had never even been to FL when we purchased our 160 points at D'land (SSR) this past August. We still hadn't been there when we did our add-on 1 month later. Call us crazy!
Let me add that we have since been to WDW, staying at OKW and touring SSR, and now spend time cruising resale boards looking for a small contract at OKW.

Even though most of my time was spent in bed with a bad back (the Reedy Creek Fire Department EMTs were great!), we found both the DCL cruise and the World rather wonderful. Never had a better time. Our friends have said of us: Some people are hopeless!

In 1999 we bought BWV sight unseen all the way from Massachusetts. The closest we'd been to the Boardwalk was Epcot! Since then we've added on twice and haven't looked back. Best decision we've ever made. I can't tell you how many great memories we've made with our kids and my parents. Memories that wouldn't have been possible if not for the extra space and convenience of the villas. My Dad died in a boating accident almost 2 years ago and not a day goes by I'm not thankful for all those vacations our whole family took together.

Found these boards when researching a week at a dvc resaort for sale on ebay. Never heard of dvc but after reading hours on this board knew it was right.

Sight unseen. Had stayed at the WL, but had never even been back to the BW area and had only driven by OKW. When we bought, BCV was the resort Disney was selling We made an original offer for resale OKW points - the big rooms and low point cost appealed to me, but the deal fell through and the next deal that met our needs for points and cost was BWV (there weren't a lot of 150 point OKW contracts at the time), and we switched easily - standard view points are as much as a value, and the lack of pool slide (at the time) at OKW was troublesome since we have "pool kids." Would have liked to have bought VWL, but the resales for that - since it was new - were rare and much more expensive than OKW or BWV. So we ended up happy - and perhaps I have a tendancy to look at the bright side, but the walk to Epcot has turned out to be our favorite feature. I spent a lot of time looking at photos at various sites and checking floorplans - and then just trusting Disney.

Bought SSR without being at WDW since it was built. We did do DVC tours of BWV and VWL, so we knew about DVC before looking at SSR.

Another Sight Unseen !

Bought 250 points Old Key West resale after only one trip to WDW, and that was a stay at Dixie Landings. We enjoyed the resort and the "world" sooo much that we knew we would be back again, and often. Our first DVC stay was VWL, and our first home resort stay was a family trip staying at a OKW grand villa. We have loved every trip, and have never regretted our purchase.

BTW, we were a two income family when we purchased. We are now a one-income family and likely could not afford as nice a vacation , or as many, as we can now with our DVC membership. A big thumbs up !

Yes! We bought at SSR from our cruise in Dec. We had been to WDW twice, and stayed at the Hyatt and SOG. We have been so impressed and wanted to lock in a price for our rooms - we want to enjoy many years of family memories for our kids and grandkids! pixiedust:

Our friends also think we are crazy! OUr kids are already grown, and we do Disney w/o kids! Just love that mouse

Yes, bought BWV sight unseen. Hadn't even been on the boardwalk since the hotels were built :ssst:

Well, I technically bought SSR points sight unseen. The resort wasn't built yet. I did take the tour even though I had toured in previous years for other DVC resorts. I had a working knowledge of DVC and had stayed at a few of the DVC resorts so I knew full well what I was getting into. I also knew I wouldn't be booking anymore than 7 months out, so home resort meant nothing to me. So far so good for us. Dean and others have presented a "doom and gloom" take on the future of DVC where we may well only be able to book home resort or large DVC properties like OKW & SSR. I hope this never plays out, but since Dean believes it to be true, I'm a little nervous.(the guy knows his stufff) I wouldn't suggest buying anything sight unseen in all reality. If you have stayed at other DVC resorts and know the program inside and out go for it. If not take the tour and ask tons of questions. God luck.

We bought at SSR site unseen and did an add on at SSR site unseen. We also did an add on at Vero site unseen and now we hope to do a HH add on site unseen. Do you see a pattern forming?

I bought DVC before touring any of the resorts. I called right after staying at Pop for a week, and realizing that I wasn't really a value resort type of girl. So I started doing some research, devoured this board, asked some questions of friends who were DVC owners, and called DVC.

I was originally just calling to talk to someone about DVC, and set up a tour for my upcoming trip. Before hanging up with the cast member, I said, "I think I may go the resale route. I know I wouldn't be happy at SSR. If I could get Boadwalk or Beach Club points, I'd probably buy right now." She said, "Let me see if we have any in inventory." Sure enough, they had two contracts available at the Boardwalk, and I was able to put a deposit down for 170 points at the Boardwalk.

I was familiar with the Boardwalk, as I've been there countless times to go to Jellyrolls. I had stayed at the Boarwalk in the previous year, so I had some experience with the resort. But I had never done the tour or seen a DVC room.

We bought BCV while on our cruise in 2002 and never saw any of the resorts. We just added on SSR and have not been to it yet.

We bought SSR sight unseen and while I don't for a second regret joining DVC, I do very much regret buying at SSR. We toured it during our last visit and I just didn't care for it :( No specific complaints, it just didn't do it for me. That said, we recently added on at VWL and I couldn't be happier. Looking back, I wish we had waited to make our initial purchase because I doubt I would have bought at SSR had I seen it beforehand, even with the incentives. I just can't see myself staying there that often.

Just something to think about, but I think you'll be happy with DVC no matter what you decide!

When we bought SSR was a pile of mud and 2x4's. All I thought is don't panic, it's Disney.
