I saw Mary Poppins in LA last night. Wow! What an amazing night! :cool1: Before the show even started my niece and I were in the lobby and I saw a familiar face walk by. It was Richard Sherman! :yay:We debated going up to him as we didn't want to bother him. We decided we couldn't pass up the opportunity so went and asked for an autograph. We told him how much we enjoyed his music. In all the excitement we forgot to ask to take a picture. We did see him at the intermission, but I didn't want to bother him again.

Then, time for the show. The director came out and mentioned that Richard Sherman was in the audience. He also told us that the role of Mr. Dawes, Sr. would be played by Nackvid Keyd tonight as shown on the insert in our progam. He then mentioned that the printer mixed up the letters in the name and that it was Dick Van ****! :worship: The crowd went wild.

It was so magical! What a night. Afterwards we got to stay for a special D23 event. The cast including Richard Sherman and Dick Van **** came out on stage and we had about a 30 minute Q&A session. Dick didn't realize that they put an insert in the program with his name jumbled up. He said that they did the same thing in the movie for his role as Mr. Dawes, Sr. and it was Walt's idea. Cool:thumbsup2

Here's a link to the LA Times article.

The show was outstanding even without the special surprises and I recommend that you go see it if you have a chance.

Oh, this was also my niece's birthday present. One she will never forget. She even asked a question about advice for auditions as she is auditioning for her high school production of Grease. Ashley Brown who plays Mary Poppins answered her question.

Too Cool, also our high school is doing Grease as well!

What an amazing opportunity. You are lucky indeed.

So cool!

I had been wanting to see the show. I was watching my money as I was going to WDW for the Goofy Challenge (Marathon & 1/2 Marathon). I knew I would be spending a lot during the weeklong trip. So I holded off on buying tickets for Mary Poppins. The day I came back from WDW I had an email from D23 about the event. The 20% discount is what really caught my eye. So I bought tickets.

The thing is I spent more than planned at WDW because of the AP 20% discount special they had going. Then I spent more money on Mary Poppins tickets. (But totally worth it!) I also went to DL Saturday after the show and they also have a 20% discount going on for AP holders. So I spent more money again! :scared1:

They have fooled me into spending more money with this magical 20% number. I need to stay away from Disney for a while. :lmao:

That is so neat! We took Lily my dd for her 7 th birthday to see it in Chicago. It was her first musical now see wants to see wicked. I was concerned that Mary Poppins wouldn't be the same without Julie Andrews but I thought Ashley was a perfect nanny! I could only imagine what it was like with DVD in the show.

That's so exciting - I'm glad she's hooked on musical theatre! My daughter's first was Evita - as was mine when I was her age. I direct at her high school and we're doing Disney's Alice in Wonderland, but I REALLY want to do Mary Poppins! Hopefully they'll release the rights soon!
