As Wayne Brady likes to say, "I'm crazy nutso  ." so when I say a "mad Lime Green woman", I mean like the hatter, not like I'm ticked.
We got home Friday night, August 4, and I was bound and determined to be the fastest TR poster of the LGMHPC club. Then we plugged in the computer, and the modem wasn't working. That's bad. Then we looked at the Radio Shack ad, and a modem was on sale. That's good. But the sale didn't start until Sunday, today. That's bad. So, I waited. I was able to hook up my laptop directly to the modem and read through other people's posts, but, as I said, the stretched out wires looked like the home in Carousel of Progress when they get electricity. Not really conducive to posting my TR. DH got the modem this morning, then we went to church, and now I'm ready to post (cracks her fingers and sits up straight).
It all started around Christmas of last year. My friend from Ft.Lauderdale was supposed to come visit us in CA last October, but the hurricane caused her to cancel her trip. I really wanted to see her, so I started to think about FL. We were planning a trip to DL for Feb., and the kids said that they would like one more trip to WDW before DS starts college. That's all it took to get me started planning this trip. I started doing research on Tripadvisor, and one of the users sent me to this site. That was the beginning of a beautiful friendship!
Somewhere along the way, I came across EricaFNY, and saw that she was going to be staying at the S/D at the same time I was. She asked me if I would be putting green Mickey heads in my window, and I started searching the site to find out more about this strange ritual. That's where I found DisUnc, Cyn, VA-Bear, Stinkerbelle's Mom, and so many other weirdly wonderful DisNuts like me. They started me in a life of crime (swiping LGMHPC'S ) that has completely overrun my life.
Fast forward to July 26. I've been nagging the kids to get to bed earlier, because they stay up online until 3 a.m., and with the time difference between CA and FL, that's the time they'll be getting up to make the EMH morning hours in the park (or so I thought). No cooperation on their part as far as sleeping goes, so I just get them up to get on the plane, knowing they are exhausted.
The adrenaline kicks in for all of us, and we're able to get to the airport in plenty of time. We're flying mid-day, so hurray, no long lines for security. I notice lots of people at the airport wearing lime green, but none appear to be headed to Orlando. We fly into Dallas, less than an hour between flights, which turns out to be a good thing. Dallas has a little monorail type thingy to take us to our terminal, and the voice on the monorail sounds like the Disney monorail voice. This sends in a second wave of adrenaline. Still no green Mickeys on the second leg of the flight. I ask one man if he's from the Dis Boards, and he looks at me like I've sprouted a second head. I decide I won't talk to strangers anymore (but how long will that last?).
We get into MCO without incident, wait almost an hour for the luggage, then head down to pick up our rental car from Alamo. They ask if we want a convertible, but we decline, since we just flew in during a thunderstorm (I actually saw a huge fork of lightning come right past my window towards the wing, but my DS tells me that's not a problem for planes because they are not touching the ground. Thank God he has that expensive Catholic school education and can reassure his mother with science). We get a non-convertible Sebring, and can barely fit our luggage into the trunk.
We missed the turn onto the toll road that's supposed to take us to our motel, and end up on Boggy Creek Road. Neither DH nor I say it, but we're both thinking about the '70's horror flick of the same name. We manage to find our way to the 192, the HoJo Maingate East, and Friendly's for dinner. We had happy memories of Friendly's from our last trip, but the magic is gone. Our food is just o.k., then we head over to the HoJo to check in.
Our room was only $46 a night, and we're only staying here for 2 nights, so my expectations are low. The room doesn't look too bad. I have to call for DS's rollaway bed. DD spots a roach on the wall, which I kill. It's only 1 inch long, and we don't see any more for the rest of our stay, but it makes us all nervous. We had brought breakfast food, but we decided to store that in the car and breakfast at the IHOP next door. DH and I get to sleep around 2, DS and DD around 3, and we set the alarm for 6 to head off to MGM.
How much fun do you think we had on 3-4 hours sleep? Find out tomorrow, when the madness continues :bounce: !

Wow. You have only been home a couple of days and already have a TR started thats more than we can say about some people from the LGMHPC right PD112? Good job so far can't wait to read more.

Sounds like this will be a good report! By the way, did you see that movie, 'Diary of a Mad Black Woman'?

my favorite part was when you were asking people at the Dallas airport if they were on the DIS :rotfl2:

now I am seriously considering sporting the lime for my upcoming car trip..... to Virginia!!!! :rotfl2:

I DID NOT SAY A WORD :rolleyes1

I just posted on the Welcome boards asking if there was a way to cleverly, covertly identify yourself to other DISSERS so there would be no abject embarrasment like you suffered. I would be way too shy to go up and ask someone unless they were pasted head to toe with LGMHs. You've got guts... :smokin:

No, I haven't seen it. we don't get to the movies much.

It wasn't TOTALLY random. He was getting on a plane to Orlando, and he was wearing a lime green shirt. If he wasn't a DISer, then :confused3 ?

More guts than brains, my family would say

You made me LOL at the "sprouting two heads comment". I just pictured you all happy to see another DISnut and then he was just some dude in lime. :sad2:

I'm proud of you getting this out while it's still fresh in the head!!!!

Cant wait to see how you did on minimal sleep on the first day! I think (I hope!!) that the disney magic takes over the crankiness you may have felt otherwise!

See Ya!

Hey thanks for the shout out! :goodvibes Can't wait to hear what happens next...... popcorn::

O.K. Here we are, day 2, July 27. We get up at 6, but we're moving slow. Each of the kids takes HALF AN HOUR to shower and get dressed, so that's an hour of time used up. DH and I each take about 15 minutes, but then we also have to get our stuff together. I start writing in my journal while waiting for the kids, a habit that will save a little shred of my sanity on this trip. We get to IHOP and order breakfast. The waiter is very good at his job and cute, with blue eyes and black hair, just like Prince Eric from the Little Mermaid. By the time we all finish breakfast and get to MGM, it's 10:30. As I've been nagging the family, lines have been building . We get fast passes for TOT, and get in line for RnR. The sign says 40 minutes, but it ends up taking 80 minutes. While we are waiting, a girl comes up and offers my kids her two fast passes (it pays to be cute), so we send them ahead to ride and tell them to look for us in the line. The wait is really terrible, because we are creeping up on mid-day, and the temperature is climbing. There are no drinking fountains in the line, and people are getting sick because they don't want to lose their places in line. The ride is worth an 80 minute wait, but I wish they had been honest about the time. I love the acceleration at the beginning of RnR. It feels like you're being pulled by a point just behind your belly button. Woohoo :woohoo: I had been having some neck trouble before the trip, so I make sure to keep my head pressed against the headrest, and takeoff and loop-the loops are smooth. The end is a little rough, so even though I love the ride, that is it for me this trip.
Next, we walk right on to TOT with our fast passes. We are all really looking forward to it, because the WDW TOT is much more detailed than the one in DL. As I mentioned before, there were thunderstorms going on around Orlando, which is why the next thing that happened really caused me to panic. We get into the ride, and start to ascend the elevator shaft. All of the sudden, it just stops, and we are in utter, complete, bug your eyes out of your head and you can't see diddly, total darkness. I think for sure the storms have knocked the power out, and we are stuck, and I have claustrophobia, and Oh my gosh, I am sure I am going to wet my pants!
Well, this is a new thrill on a ride I've experienced several times before. We start moving again, and now it's fun, fun, fun! We land in the luggage storage area with Talking Tina (for all you TZ fans out there), and we get another fast pass as soon as we get off the ride.
Next, we head to the Voyage of the Little Mermaid, which we all enjoy, especially the dancing turtle. DD was 3 the first time she saw this show, and it has always been so magical to the whole family because of that first experience. When we're leaving I tell my family the seashell joke (you know, why does Ariel wear seashells? Because D shells are too big and B shells are too small). It's nice to have big kids who get stuff like this.
We move on to the Great Movie Ride, and enjoy the interaction of the CMs with the ride. After that, we split, and DH and I head over to the Extreme Stunt Show, while the kids head to Star Tours. After waiting about half an hour, the show is cancelled because of T-storms. We go to look for the kids, and find them coming out of ST.
By now, everyone has hit the wall because of the short night's sleep the night before, and it is raining pretty hard. We decide to leave for a while, have something to eat, and take a little rest. If it had been up to me, we would have pressed on, because I am a Disney commando, but everyone else is miserable, so I'm actually the one who suggests leaving to take a break.
Next up-How does a Dis commando kill time while her family sleeps?

I have to say, I got the shivers just at the mention of Talking Tina (I'm talking Tina, and I'm going to kill you!).

i love your report title!

<---staying tuned in to read the rest!

Look around when you come down for the last time on TOT. In one cage we saw Talking Tina. In the other, we saw the ventriloquist's dummy from the episode with Cliff Robertson. I feel those are two of the creepiest episodes of TZ. :scared1:

Day 2 continued. We go into Celebration, which is right across from the HoJo, but the market I had seen there is not open yet. We get back on the road and find a lttle market where we can buy snacks. It smells like Pine-Sol, which isn't really appealing, but we are all tired and hungry, so we buy some crackers, cheese and soda, and head back to our room. We're very careful not to drop any crumbs, because we don't want to attract the critters, and when we finish eating, I throw out the leftovers, just in case. Everyone else is ready to go to sleep, but I just can't when we're on the "Disney Clock" :hyper:. I spend some time reading The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World, then decide I might as well shave my legs, because who knows when I'll get the chance again. (I was glad I had taken the opportunity before we went to the water parks, where the waves throw you into total strangers. Not a good time to have 5 o'clock shadow on your legs. )
At 5, I can't take it any more, so I wake everyone up and say we are going to dinner before we go back to the park. There's a Shoney's down the street, so we try there first. But wait, have we accidently gone back to the TOT? This place is so eerie. The hotel where Shoney's is has closed, and it's boarded up and empty. We sit down in a booth, and it scoots out from under us because it's not attached. There's nobody else eating in the restaurant. We look at the menu, and there's nothing DS (a vegetarian), DH (won't eat red meat) or DD (super taster and picky eater) will eat. We throw a dollar on the table for the waiter who'd already brought us some ice water, and we skedaddle as fast as our little feet can take us. We hop in the car and find a Subway, which is acceptable to everyone, and FAST for me, because I'm about to come unglued that we are WASTING DISNEY TIME!
We finish in a hurry, and get back to MGM by 6:30. It's too late for the last Indiana Jones show, but we hit the Backlot Tour, Muppet 3D (one of DS' favorites), and Star Tours. The kids ride TOT again, while DH and I have ice cream (I love the little food court area on Sunset. The music from the 30's reminds me of my parents). Finally, we head to the theatre to see the late show of Fantasmic. It's easy to find a seat, which is good, because we hadn't done the Fantasmic/dinner package, and I was worried. The show is wonderful, but really different from the one at DL that we are used to. The best thing about the MGM Fantasmic: seating! At DL, you are stuck standing or sitting on the ground.
The park is closed when we leave the show, so we drive back to the HoJo and sleep our last night there.
Tomorrow-Checking into the Dolphin, and what's that coming from the ice gator? You might think it's water, but it's not!

:cool1:
Awesome so far. Except the roach. That gave me the heebie jeebies...
eeuuwww..
Otherwise it is nice to see someone else with a Disney Clock :hyper: travelling with those who don't. (Really, what is with them anyway?!)
Can't wait for more!

I can't explain it. These kids are my own flesh and blood, and they've been raised right (DL twice a year, go when it opens stay till it closes). I blame DH. He grew up less than an hour from DL, and, growing up, he and his family made only a few sporadic trips where they stayed just for the afternoon!

I love this so far! I havent been to Disneyland for a few years but I loved to compare Magic Kingdom and some of the Calif. Adventure rides to WDW ones.

Keep the good stuff coming!!! You are really super at TR writing! :thumbsup2
