We are planning on going to WDW in a couple of months, and while I'd love to say that my dd will be potty trained by that time, I'm just not sure. She chafes very easily, so I put ointment on her between diaper changes. Does anyone know how I could fly with this in her diaper bag? I know that they say that you can fly with milk, formula, juice and baby food for infants and young children, but that was never mentioned. What do you think? Do you think that I would need to call her pediatrician so that they could have the pharmacist label the ointment? Thanks for your help!! :goodvibes

We usually make it all the way from Texas without a diaper change---it is only a just over 2 hour flight. And I see you are flying from Alabama? I would think that would be quite a short flight.

If I coat my DD in Desitin---not the creamy kind, but the good old zinc oxide from a jar---it will stay on for several hours. Even with a wet diaper change, unless I really scrub with a wipe.

Another idea---have you tried the medicated Johnson's baby powder? That would work quite well if you had to reapply something

Have a great trip!

This is what I'm planning with DD too! Coating her really well with the Boudreaux's Butt Paste and praying for the best (or at least no #2 diapers until we land!) :thumbsup2 :rotfl:

Don't u just love that stuff?

Ok, I don't have a baby any more so I won't have to worry about this fortunately (ds never had a diaper rash problem thankfully anyway). I was doing some reading on another travel board and thought I would pass on some information I read there about what's allowed, not allowed, etc:

1. Obviously, no liquids, gels or creams of any sort, which include diaper cream, unfortunately. But since my son is on antibiotics, he gets a horrible diaper rash and is prescribed a certain kind of diaper cream, which is allowed on as long as I have his birth certificate with me to match the prescription. Prescriptions are allowed as long as they are in the original package with the prescription sticker.

2. They will allow the pre-made formula that you purchase in the store or powder formula. I just read a recent article that says you will not have to taste the formula. Here is the link to the article:

http://travel.msn.com/Guides/article.aspx?cp-documentid=347544&GT1=8489

3. Solids are allowed, food and snacks as long as they aren't in liquid form. If the baby food you have is in it's original package and not opened, they'll accept it. First stage baby foods are very liquidy and I wouldn't put it passed the TSA to confiscate it if it was open. From what I've heard, they've been extremely strict.

4. And you've all probably heard that certain makeup, lotion and shampoos are not allowed either. What sucks is that the air is so dry up there that I need lip balm and they won't allow that on as well.

One idea that came up (and I DON'T KNOW if this would be breaking the rules or not so use this tip at your own peril) was to put a smear of diaper cream in the clean diapers you're taking with you. Not sure if that's breaking the rules or not but it's sure creative!

hth!

ETA: obviously I copied and pasted someone elses post but that at least will give you an idea of what this person found out in a similar situation... hth.

What's so crazy is that on Southwest's site they say that you can bring on juice for a baby/small child, but it isn't mentioned on the TSA site. I've never had to get juice for my dd on a flight because she always brings her sippy cup with her. Does anyone know if SW has fruit juice on their flights? I'm sure they do, I've just never paid attention. I guess I can just ask for juice as soon as I board to keep her happy! :) BTW, I LOVED the idea about putting the smear of diaper cream on her diaper!

Never mind about the juice on the SW site............I just looked again and apparentley they've realized that was incorrect and took it off of the link on their site. Oh, and just to note that yesterday they also said that formula and MILK.........now they're specifying breast milk. If it's in a bottle (let's say a carry on cooler thingy), how would they know the difference between breast and regular milk? ;) :lmao: The thing that stinks is that some babies on longer flights may want their "regular" milk, and SW doesn't offer milk on their flights (at least they haven't in the past).

Juice WAS mentioned on the TSA web site yesterday. Looks like they took it off today.

OP - If your aren't travelling for several months, you really shouldn't spend any time worrying about this now. Who knows what the rules will be then?

I was just at our International airport today and was told lip balm sticks and deoderant sticks are allowed. :confused3

I guess the good thing about all of this, aside from added safety, is that if you bring along any cosmetics or toiletries then most luggage will have to be checked now which should cut down on the amount of idiots that try to bring on too many oversized carryon's and end up delaying the flight while the airline has to check their baggage below!

Ugh. I called Southwest and asked about the milk. No, they don't have milk. DD is allergic to apples, so that takes that out too. Poor kid will have to drink water until we get to Orlando.

The Southwest people told me to put the milk in a bottle so it will be allowed past security. I feel like that's cheating somehow though since she's on a sippy cup now.

You'd almost think that if these security measures stay in place that SW with start offering milk like the other airlines do. I think that they should for those with babies that are used to having their milk. I know what you mean about juice. Emily is supposed to have white grape juice per her pediatrician, so I'm not sure how she'll do with apple. I guess I'll find out! :) Oh, and the funny thing about SW saying to put her milk in a bottle is that now on their site they've changed it to formula and breast milk only..........not regular milk. Does breast milk look different than whole milk?

Breast milk definitely looks different than whole milk to me, but who knows if the security people would know.

Can't you just buy milk at the airport once you get through the security check? Or is that not allowed either?

Not allowed. You must consume it inthe airport or ditch it beforew you get on the plane. They are checking for liquids at the gate. I only know because it was on the news just this morning.
At least in SoCal.

What do you want to bet the airlines are gonna hike up their prices more to accomodate for the extra beverages they have to provide now that we can't bring our own? :rotfl2: I hpe they fill all of those empty over head compartments with extra soda!

Our flight on SW Air averages 7 1/2 hours each way. They offer 1 beverage during each of the 2 legs of the flight. I ALWAYS pack lunch and extra water/soda/juice pouches as flying dehydrates you so badly and their heads always spin if you ask for additional drinks when it's not "the time"!

Good luck to all of you travelers with little ones.

For the diaper rash-lather on a good layer of Vaseline before you go. It should stay on better than diaper creams.

For drinks-if your child isnt big on water, try one of those fruit drink single serving packets. Dont use the entire thing as its meant for a bottle of water. Crystal Lite and others make them. I use them in the park to cover up the nasty taste of FL water!
