Diana left ring to Harry...thoughts on it being given to Kate????

Since many, many Americans don't have a drop of British blood in them, I think the fascination with the British monarchy is that it's something we don't have. For many Americans it's something so different, glamourous and exotic. For us, princesses and the like are the stuff of fairy tales and not real life.

I have British blood, but only 25% direct lineage..grandmother was English and I still have family in Nottingham. So does that mean I can have 25% legitimate fascination?

I believe the ring was bought and designed specifically for Diana, she got it in the divorce. It was not a 'crown jewel'.

I do have British lineage, my grandfather was from Wales and was his family's 1 generation here in the States and my other side was from England as well.

However, I really could care less about the Queen, Charles or Camilla. Not because they are British, I feel that way about our people as well sometimes. THe Queen does seems interested in our Kentucky derby and our Kentucky horses. And she likes to come to Jamestown Va if we have major anniversaries.

The Queen Mother, I liked her. Fergie and Prince Phillip I liked them as well. Adored Diana-not because she was a real life princess, but I remember seeing her in a Aids ward touching a patient, and back then people didn't want to do that. I adored her for her humanity and I cried so much when she passed away and woke up crazy early to watch the funeral.


William and Harry I adore them as well. When they announced the engagement, I just hoped that Kate would not be hounded like Diana was. Everyone likes a good love story-even though when Charles and DIana wed I thought she must love him because DANG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!-and that transends all nations.

Actually, the ring was one of many on a jewelers tray. She was allowed to pick her favorite.

If I was Harry, I would not want my wife to wear the ring. Poor thing had to live with his parent's bad marriage.
People in Britain were upset that William gave it to Kate because they feel it might bring bad luck.

Personally, I think William should have given Kate a new ring, picked out by the 2 of them.

If they're (William, Kate & Harry) are happy with Kate having Diana's ring, that's their business.

I agree that if Diana left it to Harry (or if it was the item of hers that he chose as a remembrance), he should've kept it for his own future wife. William and his wife are getting the better end of the inheritance already!

Since the ring is Harry's, however it came to be his, he's free to do with it whatever he wishes. He could have kept it for his own future bride, given it to his brother (as he did) for the future Queen of England's engagement ring, had it turned into a tie-tack, played marbles with it,,,

And many many Americans DO have British heritage..... but I agree, it's something we don't have- it's also a fascinating and long history..... something else Americans' (as a country) don't have.

True. The Prince of Wales is the Heir Apparant to the throne.

Edward I started this tradition. It wasn't a particularly kind thing he did: One of the things he promised the Welsh as he attempted to beat them into submission was that the NEXT KING of England would be born in Wales and he wouldn't speak a word of English. Obviously, the Welsh assumed that one of their own ranks would follow Edward as king. Instead, the king arranged for his wife to be transported to their area to give birth to his own son: A man born in Wales who didn't (yet) speak a word of English. Since then the next in line to be king has been the Prince of Wales.

Now, THAT'S interesting!
