News reported that the ring William gave Kate was actually left by Diana to Harry, but "after much discussion it was decided that William would give it to Kate". Seems had Diana wanted it given to William's wife, she would have left it to him. I don't know, it just doesn't seem right somehow that Harry should not have kept it.

An interesting point. I haven't given it much thought as of yet but can see where you're coming from.

What I had heard on the national news was that Harry requested the ring as a momento, and William requested a watch after their mother died.

Now, years later Harry on his own accord offered the ring to be given to Kate, saying that it should go to the next Princess of Wales. I think it is an extraordinary selfless and thoughtful gift.

My first thought is, if Harry was part of the decision, what does it matter?

Wasn't it also said that the ring belonged to the royal family, though?

I would think thats between Harry and William. If Harry doesn't have a problem with it neither do I.

I guess things hold sentimental value to me. If my mother left something to me, I would cherish it. As much as I love my sisters, I would feel she wanted me to keep it!

Unless the Royals expect gifts back, now neither one of them own it.

I heard the same thing---she did not leave the ring to either son. Harry asked for it and William asked for her watch after she died. I think it was kind of Harry to pass it on.

Never expected to be flamed over this! Anyway, I guess things hold sentimental value to me. If my mother left something to me, I would cherish it. As much as I love my sisters, I would feel she wanted me to keep it!

Disagreement is not flaming.

And as for Harry, it seems you may be judging him for a decision you would not make.

I agree. All I see here is disagreeing, not flaming.

As far as the ring goes, IMO it's between William and Harry. None of my business. If Harry did ask for the ring when Diana died, and he is the one who offered it to William to give to Katherine, then that was a very sweet thing to do.

The article I read said that Charles allowed the boys to pick out something of their mother's after she died. Harry picked the ring and William picked the watch because she used it to teach him how to tell time.

I just re-read the responses and while they disagreed, I don't consider any to be "flaming". :confused3

My opinion? I wasn't even aware Harry was left the ring; but knowing he offered it to William leaves me with the impression Harry is extremely bonded to his brother AND approves of his choice of bride. Prince Harry has gone up a knotch in my view.

Sentimentality can take many forms...i.e., my most cherished posessions of my deceased 90 y.o. mom is her totally trashed 1939 copy of "Gone With the Wind" :lmao: and the the gold religious medal/chain she wore daily.

I do wonder how the whole thing went down, though. Did Harry feel obliged, as the younger sibling, to give William the ring or was it a truly selfless act? At the time of Diana's death, Harry had wanted the ring and thought to ask for it, could he have changed his mind?

That was my thought as well.

All I really know is that I hope Santa was listening when I said that I'd love one of those replicas they're offering.

If not, I guess I'll be buying myself a present :)

OK, let's agree to disagree!

You asked for people's thoughts about it. Did you not really mean that? When you ask fpr people's thought's on a subject, they assume you mean any thought, not just the thoughts that agree with yours.

I think it was Harry's ring to do with as he pleased, and he did. He must think Kate is awfully special to let her wear it.

It's between William and Harry so not sure why anyone else would care.:confused3

Are you even from the U.K. or a commonwealth country? If you're American it has nothing to do with you at all.

Even if she were from the U.K, it still would have nothing to do with her at all.
