Diamonds???

Anyone know anything about them??

I am going on a cruise next month and have bought many pieces of jewelery on previous sailings but this time....I would love a diamond solitaire and don't know where to begin!

I would like about 1.5 carats ideally...not sure if I want baguettes on the shoulders or not...what can I expect to pay?? Ballpark?? I want good stones..not necessarily the absolute best?? Make sense? Thinking of St Maarten for my search but we are heading to St Thomas as well..

Any tips appreciated!

Well I would go to some of the more high class jewelry stores in your area not the mall chains if possible. Sit down with the salesperson and ask them to explain. Check and see if they have what you want and what the price would be then you will be a little more educated as to the prices and the 4 C's color, cut, clarity, carat. I always pick sales people's brains before I buy. I would also take the info they give you and check it with a reputable site on the web such as Blue Nile.

I have the same questions. My DH is in South Africa right now, and will be traveling there at least quarterly......I told him I want a nice diamond (VVS or above) and at least 1.5 carats.......but i haven't priced diamonds since we got married almost 18 years ago! I don't know what a good price is, in fact I am just assuming he can get a good deal in S.A..

We bought beautiful jewelry at Joe's Jewelry on St Martin. I know, not a name you would expect, but the owner's son (Dean) waited on us and we were very pleased with the time and attention he gave us. Not a high pressure sale either. They have several stores on the island and he took us to all of them to make certain we picked out the pieces we wanted. There were 5 of us shopping together and between us we bought tennis bracelets, earrings and necklaces.

I know I have had some great buys in St Maarten and St Thomas on other pieces but this being a bit more substantial I want to be a bit more knowledgable.

I really have no idea what the ballpark range could be on this?

So far..I haven't bought anything over $1,500 ..but this will be significantly more.

I thought if I can prepare myself to at least have an idea...I may be ok?
