Last day! This trip was awesome, but like all good things, it came to an end....WAAAAA! It was great though and I wouldn't change anything about it.
Cast Members: Just a school buddy of mine, Jason and myself. He is 21 and I am 22 (still very young at heart though)
DAY 5:
Jason and I had planned to wake up early in order to pack and get everything into the car (we had to check out of the hotel by 12pm). We wanted to wake up at 7. We ended up waking up at about 7:30am, so not too far off. I gathered all my things and my souveneirs and we took our stuff to the car. I had bought some truffles for my b/f on one of the previous days and I was figuring they were going to melt horribly. Luckily, Jason did bring a cooler so we were able to put the box of chocolates in there with some ice. Unfortunately, the top couldn't close because the box was too tall. I was crossing my fingers, hoping it wouldn't melt.
Once everything was loaded into the car, we did one walk-through to make sure we had all our belongings, then proceeded to the main lobby to check out. It was about 8:30am at this point and we decided to drive to Disneyland since Jason had a premium annual pass, making the parking free. Plus, the parking was covered, so there would be more of a chance that my chocolates wouldn't melt. Once parked, we caught the shuttle to take us to the park. It dropped us off at Downtown Disney and we walked to the park. Once in the park, I figured I would only get a couple good rides in since we had lunch reservations for 11:30 and we wanted to leave at about 2 to begin the 6 hour drive home. We still had some shopping to do too. We immediately went to grab fastpasses for Autopia, since I had not ridden that yet. We decided to get on the Matterhorn first as the line is usually really short in the morning. We got on after about a 10 minute wait. I always wondered why there isnt a fast pass for the Matterhorn; I guess due to the fact that it loads quickly??? Anyways, that was fun and a good chance to get a great view of the park on my last day. After the Matterhorn, we still had not ridden Alice in Wonderland and I wanted to ride it at least once. The line was about 15 minutes. It was cute, short, but sweet.
After this, we were in our Autopia fastpass window, so we went to get Fastpasses for Space Mountain. I definately wanted to ride this at least one more time since it was my favorite ride. After getting the fastpasses, we ran back over to Autopia. The fastpass line was ridiculous! It was like 25 minutes! Yes, in the FASTpass line. I was like, wow, this ride must be cool if the line is that long. Well, it wasn't! I can see how it's really great for kids though as they get to drive. I drive about 2 hours a day for my work commute so it was no big woop for me. HAHA! I'm glad I got to ride it at least once though. At least I can say I've ridden it if nothing else.
It was about 10:15am at this point so we decided to order my sisters the parisols from the little cart in New Orleans Square. We knew they would take about 2 hours to dry, so we'd figure it'd be plenty of time and we could pick them up and then head out. I ended up ordering 4, one for each of my sisters and 1 for my moms b/fs daughter. The price was great! Only $9.95 a piece and the handpainted decorations were included in the price! I thought it was a steal of a deal. I gave the designer the names of the girls (they put their names on it w/ some floral designs) and paid her and was advised to come back in about an hour and a half (it was a really really hot day, so I figured they would dry quicker). After this, we both got a churro, last churro at DL
and headed over to Space Mountain to use our fastpasses. I was sad in thinking that would be the last time I would ride Space in a while, but I definately enjoyed it. After this, I wanted to ride Splash one more time, so we went over to check the fast pass time window. It was already down to 3:30-4:30!!!! We knew we'd be gone by then, so we couldn't get them. The regular line was ridiculous at 70 minutes! Forget that!
At this point, it was 11:00am and we decided to run over and check in for lunch. I had heard the Blue Bayou was amazing and a "must try" on this forum, so I figured it would be a great way to end the trip. We had reservations at 11:30am and I really really really wanted a water seat. We requested it upon check-in and pretty much just sat in the lobby and waited until we were called. We were the first ones called in! I was ecstatic! I almost jumped out of the chair when I heard "Jason, party of 2". Haha! We were seated at the best table too since we were the first to be called. It was the middle table by the water. Absolutely perfect! The ambiance is amazing, dimly lit, candles, very very romantic. I was definately thinking I would rather be there w/ my b/f though. Haha! We were greeted right away by our server and were prompted for our drink order. I ordered a mint julip (again due to recommendations from this forum). It didn't really float my boat, but was an interesting taste and definately different. Kinda tasted like mild mouthwash. Haha! We were enjoying the boats going by (on Pirates of the Carribean); although at some moments, it was a tad eerie being stared at while we were eating. The server then came back for our order and to bring us some rolls. Jason (a huge fan of chicken nuggets/strips, etc) ordered from the kids menu. I decided to try the infamous Monte Cristo, also based off of reviews. While we were waiting on our lunch, we heard some folks on the ride boats asking us to throw them a roll or two and another person on the ride said "Hey WAITER!!" and requested a refill on their ice tea (LOL). Our lunch arrived minutes after placing the order, it was amazingly fast. Let me just say, the sandwhich was amazing! TOOOO GOOD! It actually beat my expecations down to a pulp. I figured it would be good, I never imagined it'd be THAT good though. The pasta that came with it was good also. Wow, what a great experience. The sandwhich was HUGE and I could only manage half of it, but WOW, what a great lunch. Also, during lunch, we were asked by other riders if it was good what we were eating. I responded with an enthusiastic two thumbs up. It was pretty fun playing along and I don't think the riders expected feedback. Haha! Once we were done w/ lunch, our server brought us the check. We were amazed at the price! Only $21.00 including Jason's AP discount! What a great deal! It was wayyyy worth the price! Then, our server brought us some gold foil covered chocolate mints with BB imprinted on them. Amazing. I was sold when I walked into this place. A must do at least once if you can manage.
Upon exiting, we noticed some Du Wop (sp?) singers right by the exit. We noticed they were handing out beads (which I had wanted since I heard they sometimes give them out), so we quickly joined in their singing and clapping. I got two sets of beads and was very happy about that! They were mainly giving the beads to the kiddies, so I felt lucky to get them, but then again, I was singing pretty loud. LOL!
We then headed over to pick up my umbrellas. We figured they would definately be dried by now since we put in the order at about 10:15 and it was now 12:30pm. They were soooo cute! The decorations were beautiful! I was very pleased with my choice to get these! After thanking the designer, we headed off to Downtown Disney for some last minute shopping and I said good-bye to DL. SOOOO sad! I really enjoyed my walk down Main Street, taking in the environment, sounds, and smells. I bought a caramel candy apple with nuts for the ride home and grabbed some things from the Disney Emporium store at the top of Main Street. I ended up getting two shirts for my Mom and Aunt, a coffee cup for my uncle, the 50th anniversary CD, a photo album, and a couple of frames. Then, we headed down to Downtown Disney. We walked through World of Disney to see if we wanted anything else. It was soooo hot at this point (mid-afternoon), so I walked over to Haagen Daaz for a double scoop of mint chip in a waffle cone. Mmmmm...ice cream. Jason wanted to check out the gift shop at the Grand Californian so we split ways. We eventually met up again and headed off to the shuttle stop to head back to the parking garage.
This was an awesome trip, and to think, I almost told Jason that I wouldn't go. He made a suggestion and at first, I thought he was crazy! Then, I thought about it, and figured I could use a vacation. Disney is so magical, and I can't wait to share it with my own family some day.
