Diamond Resort - Grand Beach II

Hi -

My brother has a timeshare he's allowing us to use later this month in Orlando. It's the Diamond Resorts, Grand Beach, Phase II. Has anyone stayed there? Likes & Dislikes? We have a 3 bedroom for 4 of us. (He was going to lose the points, so he thought he'd give us each our own bed!)

We normally stay on-site, but I am kind of looking forward to having a bigger room. I hate sitting on my bed for a week! Plus, we can definitely save some money by eating breakfast in and buying our own waters and such. Since we'll have our own car, I'm even thinking of packing a cooler of extra waters and/or lunches. We just have to pop out to the car to get them. A minor inconvenience compared to cost.

I know, it's basically a freebie so I shouldn't complain, and really, I'm not, I just like to know what to expect. TIA.

We own at Grand Beach. We have stayed there twice, Sept '07 & '08. We bought the first time we stayed there. They have updated the rooms since Diamond Resorts took it over. We love all of the space. In the 3 bedroom condos there are 2 master suites with king beds and 1 small bedroom with 2 twin beds, and 3 bathrooms. Each condo has a screened porch, washer/dryer and all of the kitchen stuff you need. They give you starter packs of dish soap and laundry soap, paper towels, and shampoo/lotion. It is a very quiet resort since it's set back off the road. It doesn't take long to get to the parks. I think the longest it took was about 15 mins to Animal Kingdom. It's the farthest away. If you have any particular questions let me know.

I really like the resort, but it is not perfect. We stayed a few weeks ago. We had roaches in our kitchen in building 5. One gaint was nearly an inch long. One of the toilets leaked into the unit below because it was not properly installed. Parking was always tight and we had a long walk to the room after late nights out. There were a lot of dead bugs by and in the elevator. During our previous stay, the cleaning crew stole an expensive hair brush. This time, we decided not to have the room serviced midweek and nothing was stolen.

The rooms are huge and nicely decorated. Beds are comfy and it was great to have so much space. I love the hammocks and walking trail by the lake. I'd stay again in a heartbeat. Just be prepared for some problems and don't sweat the small stuff.
