After Dinner I crave sweets so bad,I'll go get in the car and drive to the Corner get and go to buy a candy bar. Does this happen to anyone else?? What do you do??

When this happens I have a small dish of ice cream. I cannot have anything with Nutrasweet so I am really limited on what I can cheat with.

Do you take insulin? My life changed when I went on the insulin pump 10 years ago. Now I can eat sweets, just count the carbohydrates. Still after being on the pump 10+ years it is amazing to me that I can eat a candy bar, take my bolus (insulin from the pump) and my blood sugar stays perfect! So if I crave sweets, I eat them! Good luck!

I take injections twice a day. 70/30 Novalin,85 units inthe Morning and 75 units in the evening.

I had to do a urine test, and it said I spilled NO glucose!

Tommorow I get the results of my big Diabetic blood test.

Ps. Our Hmo won't do insulin pumps.

Try keeping a few of the Hershey's miniatures or other snack-size chocolates around. One or two of those may just take care of your sugar and carb craving without boosting your BS too much.

Disclaimer: ask your endocrinologist about these first! :)

I'm on a low carb diet for weight loss, and there are lots of products out there to keep my "sugar tooth" from killing me. They contain mostly sugar alcohols (e.g., maltitol) that, according to Dr. Atkins, are allowed on my diet because they have a "negligible effect on blood sugar." So maybe they'd be an okay treat for you, too? The CarboLite brand is really tasty - you can barely notice the difference between those and the sugar-filled kind (except for the price tag - a snack size version of a "100 Grand" candy bar is $1.50 - but well worth it for me). Again, please ask your doctor, I *certainly* don't want to be responsible for your blood sugar skyrocketing, but these might work! :)
