Diabetic desserts?

They usually have a no sugar added option, but that is not always a good choice for a diabetic.
If I get a dessert, I usually share and only take a bite or two.
But the no sugar added sorbets are very good.

Do you use insulin? If so, you can eat the desserts that you want and cover for it with insulin. It's the carbs that you're counting, not the sugar. Most sugar-free options have just as many carbs, if not more, than the regular options do. Also keep in mind that with all of the walking at WDW, your blood sugar will probably run lower than it normally does. Be sure to bring some candy with you in case of lows.

Best of luck on this new journey you are on! I can imagine it is very tough at the outset- as it is so much change all at once.

When I had gestational diabetes, I really enjoyed berries as my dessert, with cheese.

Also, I did very well with a little bit of cheesecake, with fresh berries.

I am a diabetic. Have been using insulin for about 5 years now. I find I indulge a little more than I should while at Disney World. Typically we walk anywhere from 8 to 10 miles in one day. I had dessert and a mixed drink most dinners last year. I had an appointment shortly after we arrived back home. My Dr. was quite pleased that I had lost 10 pounds while on vacation. Keep an eye on your numbers. Be aware that low sugar numbers might happen..

I'm also a diabetic. As other posters have said, it's actually the carbs you have to watch. Most sugar free desserts just use a sugar substitute, which doesn't reduce the number of carbs. I normally go for the ice cream, as a single scoop of just ice cream isn't really too bad in carbs. Small slices of cheese cake aren't too bad either. Just beware of sauces. They are normally a high source of carbs. Berries are high in carbs as well so don't go too overboard on them either.

I have been diabetic for a little over a year now. Non insulin and only 500 mg of Metformin a day, so I got to be super careful about carb intake. I want to thank everyone for some of the ideas put forth in this thread. If anyone has any others, I'll be haunting this thread til our trip comes up on 2/14.

I was just recently diagnosed with diabetes. Do restaurants offer sugar free desserts?

1) I used to be a Type-2 diabetic - cured now.
2) Eating desserts at WDW was tough.
3) Even the "no sugar added" menu items were not good for me.
4) I did as mentioned above, I would take 1-2 bites of my wife's, and leave it at that.

You can never "be cured" of diabetes. You can manage it, lose weight and have your numbers drop to a pre diabetes state. But you always have it once you are diagnosed.
