DHS worth it for young kids?

Thanks for your input everyone. Maybe we'll do part of a day there. My son doesn't really like TV and movies, so he has never seen Star Wars or Indiana Jones (and he might even be too young for those, I haven't seen them since the movie theater!:scared1:) He's never seen Toy Story, but the ride does sound great. He did like Nemo but that is the only Pixar movie he's seen. However, when we went to Disneyland I found that his not knowing the characters wasn't an impediment to him enjoying movie themed rides. Shows were a different story, though. He's too short for RNRC or ToT.

I used to think DHS wasn't a must-do after MMC stopped filming there. :rotfl:

However, I do think it is such an underrated park. I LOVE it. There is a lot to see and do. Many attractions, the cast members are wonderful (I love talking to the old Hollywood actors and actresses), and I just have a great time every time I go.

The parade is loads of fun as well. :hippie:

I took my son when he was two, and he had a blast. There is cool stuff in every Disney park.

My son is 4.5 and we might skip it this year. It's my least favorite park. If we get tired of the other parks maybe we will go for 1/2 day on the last day. I do like Fantasmic, but we saw it last year and I would rather spend the time doing something else - plus we are doing free dining and have dinner scheduled most nights at Epcot. If you are going to go make sure that you get a schedule of the shows before you go and plan your day - the first time we went we missed all of the early shows doing the Movie ride and Backlots tour, then there is kind of a lull where there are no shows and we had already done the rides that my son could do. I do remember that he really loved The Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground.

My middle DS is 4 and he loved DHS this past trip. His favorite things were Star Tours (he hasnt seen Star Wars either, but liked the ride a lot), the Great Movie Ride, Toy story mania, The honey I shrunk the kids playground, indiana jones show, the TONS of characters to meet in the animation building, little mermaid show, Beauty and the beast show. The block party bash parade is lots of fun! Three of his top 10 things from the trip happened at DHS... meeting the power rangers, riding ToT, and Fantasmic. He STILL talks about fantasmic several months later, he loved it!!! We spent a day and a half at DHS! I would higly recommend at least a half day here.
One full day at AK allowed us to do everything, with a few things several times.

Absolutely! We took our 3 year old last year and he loved it! We didn't do playhouse disney either while we were there. He loved Indiana Jones, Lights, Motor's Action, the Honey I Shrunk the Kids Playground, Little Mermaid, and Toy Story Mania. He also loved the Jedi Academy 'mini' show (his sister actually got to be in it, she is 6). Most of all he was blown away by getting to 'meet' Lightening McQueen and TowMator. He talked about that more than any other part of our trip.

He did not particularly enjoy Backlot Tour, it was a little scary but he wasn't terrified, Great Movie Ride he didn't say he didn't like it but didn't say he did (we had the 'gangster themed one') and he slept thru Beauty and the Beast (it was nap time).

Our 6 year old loved DS as well as she was big enough for Rock N Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror. She is a daredevil so it was the perfect park for her and it gave us alot of opportunities as a family to ride things together.

This depends so much on the child. I would say if you have an extra day, then go ahead and give it a shot, and if you really don't like it, then you can always leave early.

We went last year with DS4. He did watch Playhouse Disney, and therefore loved the show, but there was a lot more in the park that he enjoyed. He loved TSMM, and the Lights Motors Action show. He liked the back lot tour, and Great Movie Ride, though not quite as much. He also liked Mupped Vision 3D, and the Block Party Bash parade. I know that he would have loved Indiana Jones, but we missed it last summer (we'll try not to make that mistake again this time). This year, we're also going to take him to see Fantasmic, which I'm sure he'll love.
