DHS Soundstage 1 Project

Getting salt out for my hat - since it's a "done deal". Realizing how often those words have been used before and putting salt away - for now.

More IS coming. With MyMagic finally turning a corner and with the neighbors down the street throwing money like Madi Gra what else can they do? Hollywood Studios needs some work and it doesn't take a super genius to understand that. Speaking of the guys down the road, it really does suck when your new expansion doesn't bring in the numbers that you wanted. Yea after spending money like that you can bet they wanted a little more of a return. No doubt attendance saw a very good bump, but unfortunately it just wasn't enough. Thank God the land itself is amazing because it is not the ride bringing them in. In fact it looks like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train isn't the only mediocre coaster in town.

Yet back to Disney they know things are getting a little dull so they plan to fix that. Disney Springs, Pandora, Rivers of Light, Star Wars, Pixar, Frozen and maybe more are all lining themselves up as part of the Walt Disney World family and you can believe that by the end of the decade things are going to be looking a lot different at the resort.

When the shovels start tossing dirt in the air I'll believe it, and if it's as big as people are hoping don't count on everything being done in five years.

you have an empty backlot now something has to be coming they just keep closing things in a park that already doesn't have much. Permits have been filed for sound stage 1 by the same company that is doing the maelstrom frozen project.

That is an unusually large amount of bigwigs in one group isn't it? If it is it seems like it would be good news, however, you pointed out that the permit is for two years. Two years for Disney seems like a very short time for something major, unless it is a clone of another ride. It seems conflicting to me. The Maelstrom permit is 18 months is it not?

Maelstrom permit doesn't have an explicit expiration, meaning it expires one year from filing which would make it 9/16/2015. Normally permits without an explicit expiration are for things that aren't going to take any where near one year.

Sounds familiar - just the closing part. Seen Epcot lately?

Wonders of Life closed since 2007
Odyssey Restaurant closed since 1994
Imagination pavilion a shell of its former self
Ever observe how much dead space there is in The Living Seas now? Interestingly enough each year I see less and less fish in the aquarium. Makes me wonder how long that will be around.

Again when the shovels move dirt then I'll believe it.

The backlot tour is a major attraction at least once was for that park.
Odyssey was a restaurant plenty of those in Epcot
Wonders of life is used for food and wine and flower and garden
Imagination still has an attraction not what it once was
I can't see them getting rid of the aquarium

EPCOT will get its work once DHS a that park pulls in over 11 million second most at WDW. Not a need for immediate attention.

DHS has closed american idol, AFI institute, backlot tour, and more is rumored to close. There is also sound stage one that has been empty and the premiere theater but of course frozen has been used for that lately.

EPCOT has more attractions than DHS, EPCOT sees more people than DHS, you can't keep closing attractions in a park that desperately needs them.

I know nothing is official but something is coming. Like I've said before you don't file permits that last two years for nothing, by a company who builds attractions.

I would expect there is more tooth is permit the attractions supposed to open in 2016 sometime.

Actually, I think all of Epcot is pretty much a shell of what it used to be, not just Imagination. If you have never been to the original Epcot, you have nothing to really compare the current Epcot to. It starts when you first walk through the turnstiles and are hit with the "tombstones." Gone is the majestic entrance that immediately drew your attention to Space Ship Earth. Communicore is gone, Innoventions is all but gone, Horizons, Wonders of Life (all the festival activities held there could easily be moved to the Odyssey). Test Track teaches nothing, only an over-rated thrill ride that is out of place in Epcot. At least World of Motion was an enjoyable way to see the history of transportation. Imagination is nothing compared to the original. I love the world showcase, but you can't say they are attractions. Most lands are only a restaurant and gift shops, and maybe a movie that once it is seen does not really warrant return visits. In my mind's eye, Epcot is the park that needs the most work.

If you visited MGM when it first opened, you would think what is there now is at least double the size of the original park. The original BAcklot Tour was over two hours long, so long, that people complained about it and it was later broken into two parts. I personally think it was only a major attraction at opening because attractions were very limited. There was no American Idol, there was no Star Wars, or Tower of Terror. The main attraction was the Great Movie Ride and the first thing you saw when you walked through the turnstiles. With what is rumored to be closing and nothing to replace them, MGM/Hollywood would still be larger than what it was on opening day. (Yes, I know as I was there at opening with my four kids.) I felt then that Disney rushed the opening of MGM so they could beat Universal in opening first. MGM is actually a very enjoyable park today, more so than Epcot.

The Backlot Tour hasn't been a major attraction for over a decade. Closing it now is akin to throwing away food that's been sitting in the back of the fridge for the past six months - it went bad long before you tossed it.

What's the difference regarding the Odyssey? Disney had something there, closed it and left the building. And I'd call the use of the Wonders of Life pavilion as a place to test wine a waste of space. As mentioned earlier the Odyssey could be used for the same thing. Bottom line here is Disney closed an attraction and didn't replace it.

If you want to call Imagination an attraction go ahead. Personally it's an insult to what that pavilion used to represent. Less than half of that building is in use today.

On the aquarium, big tanks of water have been closed before. Ever hear of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea? Granted it didn't hold real fish, but the expense of maintenance outweighed the desire to keep it open. As the fish continue to disappear I don't think their long term plan is to keep an empty bowl of water laying around.

And you can file a permit to redo a swimming pool, so filing a permit doesn't always mean that the next E ticket is around the corner.

That was the driving factor behind DHS was because universal was coming to town and disney may have some competition. Eisner saw that and drove with it. None of the parks are what they were opening day no where near them but would they survive if they were? Disneyland was a complete mess when it opened and it changes all the time for good and bad same with every disney park. I think DLP has the most problems as their parks and resorts are just not run to anywhere near disney standards but it is getting better from what I hear. I was not alive in order to visit the originals of DHS or Epcot but I do know a lot about them. It is what it is I guess but I'm really open for change at DHS and I think most are.

Odysey and Wonders both have to be used at least once a year to keep the occupancy permits. Both are used almost exclusively for Food and Wine.
