DHS Frozen -- I don't think I get it!

I loathe everything Frozen because of the frenzy it has created and the way so many adults have forgotten how to act like normal human beings and revert to acting like uncivil animals because of it.

However, I totally get the phenomenon for kids. I'm 36 years old, so I was fortunate that in my adolescent/teen years Disney was cranking out a classic Disney musical left and right.

From 89-94 alone we had Little Mermaid, Lion King, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin. All movies with songs that most people in my age group could sing off the top of their heads 25 years later and got major air play. The current generation simply hasn't had that. While I love everything Pixar, it is a different breed of animated movies, so I understand why kids of today are all about it. I think it's a good, not great movie. However if I was 8 years old again, I'd probably be obsessed with it too.

Oh, come on. If they weren't getting crazy over Frozen, it would be Cabbage patch dolls or Beanie Babies. It's not going to change.

maybe it's just a nice escape from the reality that is real life... and just plain fun. If it's not your cup of tea, that's fine... that's why there's so many other things to do at Disney. What I don't get though, is why there are so many threads that "bash" Frozen or anything new? It's like Disney can't win no matter what they try to do. I don't get it. Me, I'd rather get happy over some silly Frozen sing along or parade than turn on the news.... :goodvibes

Yea Princess fever is common. Love your sig pics by the way. :thumbsup2

Why can't people open threats to discuss things? This is a discussion board after all. The OP asked if they were the only one who doesn't get the Frozen craze. They wanted to discuss this so I don't understand the issue with them wanting to talk about it?

I'm not sure why there has to be blame for anything. I'm not sure why people are getting so upset. If you don't like Frozen don't do the Frozen themed stuff. There are things that people dislike about Disney. That's fine, just don't do the,. I don't understand why something you dislike has to be a rant. I don't enjoy Space Mountain. I think it's a horrible outdated coaster that is a complete waste of time to do. But I'm not going to dedicate an entire thread to my hatred of a ride. I'm not a huge Star Wars fan. I enjoyed the movies but the idea of spending my weekends at the park absorbed in Star Wars is not my cup of tea. But other people are Star Wars freaks and absolutely love it.

My daughter chooses to be obsessed with Frozen, therefore we will be doing all of the frozen stuff. It's her cup of tea... So we will drink the tea together.

In my opinion to each his own... There are other things out there that people love that I just don't get. I think it just depends what your kids are into. Right now in my home it's all about Frozen. For me there was just something magical about seeing my daughters eyes light up during the movie. At that moment I fell in love with the it too. Seeing a group of children happily singing the songs from Frozen is just so sweet. If my DD4 wasn't into it I would have enjoyed the movie but perhaps wouldn't love it as much as I now do.

Maybe Disney did put the Frozen events together quickly, but I think it will still be magical for most little Frozen fans out there (and many big ones too :)).

I'm an older man with 2 girls in their mid-20's and we all loved the movie; in fact we own it on blu ray. When I first started hearing about the lines for the M&G I thought, "what the...!?"

We wouldn't do any of the events in DHS but if people want to then have a blast!

Disney is not doing this just to be kind to its guests and offer something new. They're not doing it just to increase numbers of bodies. If those bodies weren't spending, Disney wouldn't pay them any attention.

Trust me, they're not losing money on this or they wouldn't be doing it!

I'm not sure how you might think I'd think this was about guest satisfaction or newness. I completely agree that this about money. But there are multiple ways to consider the money. 1. Increase revenue streams. 2. Preserve revenue streams. IMO 2 was the more important concern even if doing 2 leads to 1. I don't disagree that they will get a bump but it is small bump in comparison to the drop they feared if they did nothing at all. And it may not have been an actual loss of profit but a fear of not meeting projections and goals. If DA didn't exist there would have been no fear and Disney wouldn't do this for the small bump they would get over simply selling Frozen stuff parkwide with no additional entertainment. Disney is not a place that spends $10 to make $11. They spend $10 to make $1010.

In how many places does failure to meet a projection, no matter by how little, result in generating a bigger negative reaction than the positive reactions generated by beating projections by a reasonable but not spectacular margin. At least within the business side of things.

I doubt anyone wants to restrict people's ability to open threads. But I think some of us just don't understand what compels someone to start a thread asking if they are the "only one who doesn't like _______."

Everyone who comes to these boards - everyone - simply does not get stuff that other people love. I guarantee that every resort, every park, every ride, every restaurant, every touring tip, every mode of transportation, every piece of merchandise, etc. has people who think, "I just don't get it." Frozen isn't unique in that way.

Why would you ever think you were the only one who doesn't like something? Why would you care?

I guess it was your line where you said the motivation wasn't money. Sorry if I misinterpreted that!

Still don't understand the hype but don't blame Disney for capitalizing on it!

But that's the beauty of it....you don't have to get the hype. We all like different things. :goodvibes

I'm sure some people are excited about the villains hard ticket event at HS. Others probably couldn't care less.

I am with original poster, don't get it. It was cute, nothing spectacular. Have a 5yo DD, who has the movie and watched it once or twice. I got excited for her when Disney had t-shirts of Elsa back in stock. I showed her and she said, oh, I'd rather have a Sofia one. So it's not all little girls either. I also have 2 other older kids. We all saw it in the theater and just "liked" it. I remember the line to see Merida right after Brave came out too, and Rapunzel. I think it's just the latest hype, and will die off once the next new thing comes out.

Obviously, I didn't think I was LITERALLY the only person not getting the hype. But when you open the boards and see countless stories of people waiting 5 hours to meet A&E. See the fervor over the new DHS activities. Read stories of people spending hundreds of dollars on Elsa dresses on Ebay. And on and on and on...you start to wonder! I was just opening up a discussion for the handful of us on the other side of the fence. Sorry if that's not an appropriate/acceptable subject of discussion. I didn't realize there were standards I wasn't meeting.

I love the new Frozen stuff at DHS. Not because I love Frozen (I'm a 42 year old man - I doubt I'm the target audience), and not because my children love it (I have 2 boys, 14 and 8 - again, not the target). I love it because it's HUGE with a whole bunch of people (especially those with girls under the age of 12), and those people are going to hunt the Frozen stuff out and wait forever to see it all ... meaning there will be shorter rides at the things my family cares about.

And that's why I love whenever Disney adds ANYTHING new ... because you win either way. Either you are interested in the new stuff and eager to see it, or you're not but others are, and it will move them to areas of the parks you won't be. Win-Win !

Lets just say I have a 7 year old who LOVES frozen, so I bought the stupid frozen premier package just for me and her. While I am doing this my husband and the other 2 kids who have no interest in frozen will be riding all the rides and seeing all the shows hoping to be no lines. AS I wait and want to kill everyone waiting to do this frozen stuff.
Lets just say if there were no FPs for Anna and Elsa there is no way I would wait in line, I don't care how much my daughter loves them.
I guess maybe if I still believed that everything was real I would be so excited, but otherwise I'm dreading the Frozen day

The OP cared enough so ask. Frozen is such a crazy popular movie, it seems everyone absolutely loved it as though it was the best movie ever. I have also wondered if somehow I "missed" what made Frozen this popular.

At the end of the day this is a discussion board where people come to talk about things. You don't have to understand why an OP started the thread. I don't understand why people post half of what they do but I'm not going to come on and criticize the threads. I either wont read, wont reply or reply in a constructive way.
