DHS Dining - HELP!

Hi Everyone!

I've never been to Disney before and planning my first vacation this Sept

Anyway, I am hoping to get ADR's for the Fantasmic Dinner Pkg, although I am realistic and know that it is hard to get. So, I have 2 questions for you:

1. If I do manage to score a dinner package, which rest. should I try for? Hollywood and Vine buffet or Mama Melrose? I know Brown Derby participates, but I don't want to use 2 table service credits.

2. If I don't manage to score a dinner package, then what, in your opinion is the best restaurant to dine at for lunch or dinner?

It will be myself, DH, DS (9), DD (7) and dd(13mo). I know Hollywood and Vine has Playhouse Disney, but isn't that only for the breakfast?

I'd go for Mama Melrose. We've eaten there and have been very happy with our meals.

If you don't get the Fantasmic Dinner Package, I would go for lunch or dinner at either Sci-Fi or 50's Prime Time. I've eaten at Sci-Fi and the atmosphere is really fun and the food is good. We haven't eaten at 50's Prime Time yet, but we're going to try it out this year and I've heard really great thngs!

We would do Hollywood & Vine. If no package, do 50's Prime Time. We have heard that some smaller children get scared from the Sci-Fi movies that they show at Sci-Fi.

I would choose Mama Melrose. We've gone there quite a few times and always liked it. Great food and great atmosphere.
If no package, Prime Time. Their food is fantastic and we love playing around with the wait staff.

I would definitely go for Mamma Melrose. We ate at Hollywood & Vine a few years ago and will never go back. The food was very institutional and of all the buffets we have eaten at over the years, it was the worst we had had. If you can't get the package definitely go for Prime Time Cafe. Its a fun place and the food is great.

For the package, I would do Mama Melrose, no question. We've had dinner there twice, and both times it was good.

We've also had very good meals at Hollywood Brown Derby, but I agree it's not worth two credits.

We've eaten at 50s Prime Time twice, once for dinner and once for lunch. Both times the food was good (though not special or exciting) and service was fun.

Mama's! The H&V buffet is one of the worst l've had anywhere.

Definately MaMa Melrose. We did Hollywood & Vine last November and thought it was only so-so. Actually, DH said he doesn't really ever want to go back there again.....for sure not in the near future!

My favorite place to dine at the studios is the Brown Derby. We don't ever get the dining plan, so the 2 credits aren't an issue for us.

The order that I would put the studios restaurants in is as follows:
1. Brown Derby
2. MaMa Melrose
3. Sci Fi
4. 50's Prime Time
5. Hollywood & Vine

If you go to scifi. The bacon cheese burgers, onion rings, & milkshakes are the best. Many complain about their other food. The cheeseburger isn't on the dinner menu, but you can still order it. And ask for Drew. He's the best waiter ever.

With your age group of kids, I'd do a late lunch/early dinner at Sci Fi.

DHS can get very hot. There is a lot of concrete in that park that deflects the sun onto you. Sci Fi is so cool and dark, it's a very welcome break at 3:00 or 4:00 especially for a young family. The burger I ate there was awesome too.

Thanks so much for your suggestions. I was thinking that if we can't get the dinner package, then I would so something like Sci Fi or 50's Cafe for the kids sake (something to keep them occupied).

Does Mama Melrose do anything fun? Or is that just a regular rest?
