We have a plan of being in DHS on an am EMH day for 8 am RD. Since its already open until 9 pm, the day would be long so we plan to go back to swim mid day and relax. I am trying to decide where to eat.
We are ok with CS but I also wonder if we might do a TS that day since its a long day in parks and we wont need the whole day. Ods wants lunch at Pizza Planet. I am not thrilled with any DHS TS places although ods is interested in Sci Fi(5 yo.)
I am also considering Shutters in (CBR) our resort but haven't gotten great info on it otherwise should we consider another resort for a meal?
Any ideas?
We will be taking disneys buses so that is a consideration. I worry about it taking too long to get to a resort then back to DHS in the evening?
We are intrigued by Sanaa but wonder what it would take to get there and get to DHS. Kids will be almost 3 and 5 but great and adventurous eaters.
TIA

We always do Sci-Fi when @ DHS. We like the theming and we really haven't found a counter service with decent food.

I second Sci-Fi! One of my kids favorites. Even on their Senior trip DD made a ADR for Sci-Fi. How can you go wrong with burgers, fries, and milkshakes while sitting in a car?

I don't like Sci Fi at all..atmosphere maybe but not the food!

I am sentimental and like 50's prime time there.

Resort TS I would maybe do Chef Mickeys or Ohana.. both are close to MK. Not sure where you are staying so it might be a pain except you could take the bus to MK and walk to Chef Mickey or take the Monorail to Ohana.

Not sure if you have hoppers, but we like to eat at all kinds of places in Epcot.. if you take the boat from DHS to Epcot you wind up close to England in World Showcase!

Thanks- no hoppers and have chef mickeys and ohanas already booked on othe days. I guess DHS place is the easiest. Did 50s last time, food was ok, didnt like the servers playing with us. They wouldnt leave us alone, became annoying.

8 am rope drop through 9 pm close gives you plenty of time to have dinner at another resort. Tour all morning, lunch at Pizza Planet per DS's request, tour a little more, go back to your resort & swim/snooze.

Can't say I'd recommend Shutters either but I think you can make the bus system work just fine. Decide where you'd like to eat. You said Sanaa sounded good. Other places that have more than the 'standard' Disney food would include Pepper Market at CSR and all the restaurants (TS and CS) at the Port Orleans resorts. BUT - your kids are 3 and 5. Remember that that means they are limited to the "kids menu" choices at all restaurants except buffets. Solely for that reason you might want to try a buffet like Boma; also at AKL.

From CBR it's fastest to take a bus to either DHS or AK, then go straight to the bus to AKL. Get an ADR at Boma right at opening so you don't have to wait to be seated. Then after you eat you can hop a bus from AK directly to DHS.

edited to add: for DS5, stop into Sci-Fi at any time during the day or evening just for an ice cream or a soda. He gets to check out the ambience but you don't lose that much park time. I wouldn't bother with dinner there.

I'm not a huge fan of any of the CS or TS restaurants in DHS. We ate at Mama Melrose two trips ago and my brothers still haven't forgiven me for making an ADR there!

If you are willing to go to a resort, and your kids are adventurous eaters, then I would suggest heading over to Whispering Canyon Cafe at the WL. Your kids would probably love it! :)

We like Sci-Fi and 50' PTC at DHS.

You could always take the boat over to the Beach Club and go to the Cape May Buffet. We really like the buffet there and it's nice to take the boat over - a nice change from buses!

I agree that a boat ride to Cape May is a good choice, it's decor is lovely, lots of food kids eat.
If you are going to your resort you might go past CSR. The Pepper Market has endless choices and is very colourful and nice.
I would recommend against Sanaa for kids but I haven't seen the kids menu?

Thanks so much, such good ideas, I need to think about what to choose.
We arent on dining plan so kids arent limited to kids meals so they might share a meal or get an appetizer(s.)
I really appreicate the ideas especially to take ods into Sci fi for a milk shake. That would be perfect to see it but not have to eat there. Great advise

OK, I know this is a long shot and I'll probably get flamed just for asking but what the heck... What are the chances on a wednesday in late May that I could walk into a resort restaurant such as Whispering canyon or Sanaa if I went on the earlier dinner hour? There is 4 of us. I have only made a few adr and dont want to have to be on a schedule if I have choices.

I think you would be okay with Whispering Canyon. We have reserved as late as the day before (once in July and once in August) with no problem.

Thanks, Good to know. I would imagine I also could return to resort for our break then call and see who has room for us at that point this way we wont need to know today what time we plan to return but can base it on what happens that particular day/

No flames; just no guarantees. If you are going during a time period when many people are there on a Free Dining offer it's going to be a lot harder. And always have a back-up plan that doesn't involve much extra transport/time; a nearby CS place where you KNOW you can eat and be happy. Taking a chance on Maya at CSR is better because you can always go to Pepper Market; likewise taking a chance at Boatwrights at POR is fine because you can always eat at Riverside. Taking a chance on WCC - I don't know that Roaring Forks would be all that appealing.

I am fine with out guarantees and going CS is need be which is why we dont make ADR for each day. I think when we get back to CBR midday Ill check to see what place if any has room and if not, we will pick from some of the CS places we wanted to try.

That's what we did, easy boat ride and YUMMY food. Much better than park food. We also ate at Kouzinna's on the Boardwalk, just as easy to get to.

Here is another vote for the 50's Prime time but if you need to leave I also agree about taking the boat to either the BWK or Beach club. There are many good choices for food.
