Are any of the counter-service places in DHS worth the bother?

It will be me, DH, FIL and DD4 - we're not too fussy about food, but I've heard "Nasty!" "Gross!" and "Blech!" tossed around a lot with regards to the food options there.

I had a terrible Cuban sandwich at The Commissary once and I don't have the guts to try that place again:sad2:

Our favorite is Pizza Planet, we each get a small personal pizza and a side salad. One of my girls is a vegetarian and this works for her too, she just gets cheese or veggie pizza. The food is decent and it is fun to eat outside there between the restaurant and Muppet Vision 3-D:thumbsup2

Oh, I forgot. The three places across from the Fantasmic! arena are decent too, I forget would they are called but one has bar-b-q which was fine when we ate there. HTH

We also ate at Pizza Planet and thats the only counter service we have had in DHS. It was good, standard disney pizza but it was still good. Plus it was fun to be in the Pizza Planet from Toy Story. My DH enjoyed it :lmao:

Starring Roles has a couple of really good sandwiches at lunch and we head to Backlot Express sometimes. They have a veggie sandwich that's good and also a good chicken salad. I know a lot of people say there's no decent place to eat at DHS, but I guess I'm just not all that picky.....It is a theme park.:)

Several good options but my fave is Fairfax Fair. It has a rib/chicken combo that's really good. It's across from the theater with B&tB.

I like Starring Rolls too. I think I had the turkey foccacia? And the grapefruit cake!

Hands down staring rolls cafe! FWIW, its the only CS place we have eaten in DHS since we've never felt the need to chance anything else. It is DH's favorite place in WDW! :lmao: I don't necessarily agree with that, but it is good. If you're on the dining plan, its a great way to spend a CS credit because of the insane pastry/desserts they have there - including a butterfinger cupcake that took 4 of us about 2 days to eat! ;)

They have limited options for food and sides - just sandwiches and chips or fruit. But both the turkey and ham are great. They are loaded with lots of meat (not just a few slices) and each comes with its own scrumptious condiments/cheese on fresh foccacia bread. For kids, they have a smaller sandwich, or a pb&j. Its showing on the menu that they have sushi available as well. Here it the menu at allears.net - http://allears.net/menu/menu_srb.htm

Enjoy! :goodvibes

I go in the ABC Commissary and have one of their cheeseburgers with the fried shrimp on top. Yum!

I've also done sandwiches in the Starring Rolls Cafe although those things have so much meat on them I have to take some off before I can eat the sandwich. I don't know if they still do that though.

the fish basket at ABC Commisary is the same as the fish at Columbia Harbour House at MK. We also like Pizza Planet.

We always enjoy eating at Backlot Express for lunch at DHS. :) We are pretty picky eaters too..lol The food quality seems better at this CS.

They have a great variety. We like to eat light for lunch and they have great light options. They have the BBQ chicken salad (grilled chicken over a salad) VERY YUMMY----this is the same salad they serve at Flametree BBQ in AK. They also have a veggie panini, a grilled turkey and cheese panini, cheeseburgers and chicken nuggets. The strawberry parfait they serve is REALLY tasty too. AND it's sugar free :confused3

We really liked the Backlot express. The paninis were suprisingly good, actually delish!

Yes DHS has the one restaurant I would NEVER go to again- Hollywood and Vine and the one CS I would NEVER go to again Commisary. ( I couldnt believe how bad these places were. )

I really like Starring Rolls, which is limited to cold sandwiches and sushi, but the dessert options are fantastic there. I also had a suprisingly good salad at ABC Comissary, and I really like the vegetable sandwich at Backlot Express, I've also have always found the pizza at Pizza Planet fine for a quick lunch, but definatly not the best pizza.

Awesome; we were worried about CS at DHS for our upcoming trip; I'll have to add Starring Rolls and Fairfax Fair to the possibility list!

This is so interesting and good to hear about the fish n chips at ABC Commisary. All I ever hear are negatives about ABC and in this thread there have been 3 positives; one for the burger with shrimp on it, on for a salad and one for the fish n chips. That is good to hear.

Our favorite CS at MK is CHH  with all the negatives about ABC, I am surprised to see that the fish n chips at ABC and CHH are the same :confused3 We have stayed away from ABC because of all the negatives but if the fish n chips are the same as CHH, we may have to try it.

Can you elaborate on why you would NEVER go to ABC Commisary again?
What was soooo bad and do you remember what you ate so IF we decide to go there, I can avoid it:laughing:

I agree Starring rolls has great sandwiches and dessert! Rosies All American Cafe has burgers soup and salads, never had the burger but soup and salad are good. Pizza Planet has decent pizza for lunch, my kids like it.

We like Starring Rolls for sandwiches and awesome cakes, it's well located for a lunchtime stop, Rosies or Pizza Planet for hot food or salads.
