I'm sort of surprised it went through to the store like that. You watch, the vintage t-shirt collection that comes out will have one that actually says 1989.

My thoughts on the 1994 date...

1. Tower of Terror is now the park icon. It did indeed open in 1994, and perhaps they are going off its construction date.
2. They want people to think of HS as the park with the fun rides and mark its best thrill ride's opening as the "birth".
3. They realize it was a different concept before people came to it for rides, with a different name and everything.
4. It's simply an oversight and nobody realized it because there has been enough turnover in the past 27 years.
5. They didn't want a lawsuit from Taylor Swift. (I'm only kidding here...)

My guess is 1 or 4.

Here is some new aerial photos.

Some backlot props are still out there including herbie...

Here's a google maps view of what has been leveled (in whole or in part). Approximately 23 acres. To me what is most interesting is what remains... will it be repurposed or knocked down later. Specifically, the remaining parts of the backlot tour, the "HISTK" play area, and the "courthouse" that was next to the premier theatre.

That's actually 2 acres under the 25 announced, interesting pictures though!

I can't remember if I saw it here or the other site...there was someone who said they might be leaving some of the buildings till as late as possible to create a "shield" from visitors -- so they can't see the progress as long as possible. Seems like something Disney (and most companies really) would do. Just logical - keep your public in the dark and it will make them even more intrigued about what is going on.

I thought streets of America was being repurposed into a new entryway for SWL?

"The building facades of SOA that wrapped around the Muppet building are down. So pretty much everything on the Muppet side of San Fran and most of the Muppet side of New York are gone. The bit of New York across from the old Pizza Planet restrooms still remains and the shell of the facade behind Youse Guys is still there for now." - J.D. wdwmagic.com

I've only been to DHS a couple times and hardly spent any time in this area. What are we supposed to be seeing/not seeing here? Thanks!
EDIT: Okay, I went back a few pages and found some "before" pictures. It looks like one of the SOA facades is gone now?

That is a huge area. Haven't set foot back there in about 10 years. Should be fun when finished.
