So my DH2B is refusing to wear a tux now. I had him convinced and then he talked to his mother who thought that casual would be better.
I don't want to wear a big frilly dress, but I was planning on wearing something nice and now I am worried that we will look out of place. She wants us to wear something Hawaiian themed since were are having the wedding at the Poly.

Anyone else go the casual route???

I think if he was to wear a really nice suit or khakis and a nice button up shirt he wouldn't look too out of place. My dress is made out of duchess satin and is quite the princess dress if I do say so myself, but DH2B will be wearing a nice suit that we bought him from J. Crew. We were initially planning a beach wedding. I was going to wear a casual wedding dress from J. Crew and he was going to wear khakis and a nice button up shirt. As long as you're both comfortable I think it will all be fine.

We're going the casual route with him. He will wear a short sleeved button down shirt that's maroon and it is actually silk. If you look at it closely you can see that there's a palm tree pattern in it, and then linen pants. I am wearing the big dress but his shirt is going to look great with it and not out of place. It is reflecting our style which I love. :)

DH and I got married @ the Poly. in July. We went casual! It was great and wouldn't have done it any other way. DH wore khaki linen pants, a white hawaiian shirt (white on white) and sandals. My dress was way low key (J.Crew $250) and I wore sandals as well. I think having it @ the Poly. is a GREAT reason to go Hawaiian and tropical! It is all very romantic! It was a blast! Any questions, PLEASE let me know! :flower: Megan

I just want to add that one of my dear friends had an outdoor ceremony here on the West Coast. It was inside a grove of redwood trees and was simply beautiful. She wore a simple dress (a tea-length white one) and her husband wore a tux shirt/jacket/tie but with blue jeans. He looked adorable. He was dressed up slightly to honor his bride (who really didn't care what he wore) but dressed down, too, since he is a simple man with simple tastes. I absolutely loved how he looked. His groomsmen also did as he did -- tux shirts/jackets/ties and blue jeans. A few even wore cowboy boots & hats. I will never forget that wedding. It was understated class all the way (and oh, so comfortable).

You can certainly go a little understated. There are some truly beautiful non-formal wedding dresses out there that would look great beside a groom in more "Hawaiian attire". However, since when does the groom's mother get a say in what you wear for your wedding? She needs to pick her attire and let you and DH2B worry about what the two of you will wear. He needs to be listening to your needs...he's marrying you, not his mom. Be true to yourself. What do YOU want? If you want a big, poofy dress and want him to wear a tux, the two of you need to decide that together. By the way...I am not knocking anyone...Husbands and wifes have to make decisions together, sometimes ignoring all other members of the family...this is a good one to get some practice with. After almost a year of marriage - I have learned that at the end of the day, DH's feelings and opinions are the ones that I have to live with and are most important and he feels the same about me.

Good Luck from a 2004 Disney Bride!! :earboy2:

By the way, Megan926...I love your picture...you and DH look beautiful!

I think casual is great! Especially at the Poly!

We did the beach wedding thing at the GF. I wore an off-white bridesmaid dress - simple. DH wore beige micro-fiber pants (super comfy!), white shirt and black jacket. His shoes and belt were ox blood color. Sounds kind of weird written out like that - but looked great! Very beachy. We also get alot of mileage out of DH's wedding outfit: job interviews, weddings, etc.!

I don't think your DH2B will look out of place at all. Just be comfortable & happy with what you two decide to do!

Thanks to everyone for your advice! I am feeling better about this now!

meagn - Where did you get your DH's shirt, I really like it and I think that is the perfect "non-tux" shirt.

I know that you are going Hawaiian - but I was going to suggest a kilt! :)

My guy and I have decided that he and the grooms are going to kilt it for our wedding. Of course, we've also decided (finally) that we are going back home to Chicago for the wedding. He's going to be one chilly puppy since the wedding will be held in December or so! (Final dates haven't been decided)

Look into kilts (try www.utilikilt.com for casual kilts). Lots of men really like them since they are so simple, traditional, unusual and easy to wear.

For the Hawaiian theme, there are websites out there with beautiful Hawaiian clothing. Also, there are lots of non-tradition "tuxes" available! Good luck!!

Thanks for the compliments!

I ordered DH's shirt online @

http://hawaiianweddingshop.com/attire.html

It came from Hawaii. The company was great; it arrived in perfect condition and quickly. They even have typical casual Hawaiian wedding dresses on the site!

Good luck! Let us know what you decide. I can't wait to hear all about your plans!

Hi Megan, I just looked at that shirt on the net the other day - we too are getting married at the Poly and my DH2B doesn't want to wear a suit either - to be honest I think that's pretty fair as it's going to be warm! I'm torn on my dress i don't want a big pouf - due to the heat - but I still want some sort of gown. I read somewhere else on this forum that you can't wear a wedding gown into the parks - if you went more casual do you reckon you'd get away with it?

rosiejo---Absolutely I think you could get away with a casual dress. I think their theory is they don't want a guest confusing the kids by looking like a princess! A casual dress would be great! ::MinnieMo
