Welcome to my very 1st PTR. :woohoo: So, please be patient with me until I figure out how everything works.

Everyone who knows me, knows that I love Disney. Up until last year, I was the only one of my friends or family that had caught the fever. THAT GOT IT!!! That changed when I met Nikki (more about her later). She's a fellow Dis-er who lives up the street & was shocked I'd never done a PTR or a TR before. I read hers & thought it was so cute. She inspired me. But, I decided it would be a good idea to wait until I'd actual booked my family's (more about them later too) next trip. I had been planning in my head & checking things out for the last month. Yesterday, I broke my favorite Mickey mug :scared1: & decided I needed a little magic to brighten my day. So, I called up Ressie & DID IT! I booked our next magical adventure.:cool1:

So a little explaination about the title. "DH went on a Year Long Vacation to a Desert Island & Now Its MY turn, 9 DAYS in WDW". It seems that I might have been a bit misleading, for that I will never apologize. Never, Never! :rotfl2: Please bare with me. This part is a bit of a downer & a little emotional for me. You see DH is in the Natl Guard & was deployed to Iraq in May of 2007. While he was gone I referred to his deployment as a "VACATION". It really helped me cope & deny the fact that he was in the middle of a war zone. He was definately in the "DESERT' & Iraq would only be considered an "ISLAND" if you count the whole continent. It just sounds a lot more fun. The truth is he was in a fairly quiet area that he said either smelled like poop, something on fire, or poop on fire. Everything there is brown, the country side, the soldiers clothes, their housing, EVERYTHING. Once I figure out how to post pics, I'll show you. So, when he left in May, I was left w/ a household to run, bills to pay (my 1st time ever), & 2 children to beat (oops, I mean raise). You see before DH was my DH he was my best friend & greatest supporter. Once we were married, he was all that & became my cheerleader, my rock. I knew that no matter what came my way, he was there. Now, I'm faced w/ the scariest thing ever in my life & my rock has just gotten on a plane & flown 1/2 way around the world. Now fast forward, Its April 23rd 2008 (our Anniversary) & our troops came rolling up in 3 huge buses. It was the best thing I've ever seen. And it seemed the last year just melted away into unimportance. We were all so glad to be able to physcially touch each other again. And oh did we ever, we got pregnant that day & are expecting mid-January. The honeymoon lasted about a month & then reality set in. All the past year come back, all the emotions (fear, loneliness, anger) came back to the fore front of my mind. I just couldn't seem to shake how all of this had effected me, changed me. We fought all the time & I just couldn't get happy. I finally was honest w/ him about the way I felt about everything & told him what it was like for me while he was gone. In the middle of it all, I said, "I want to go back to WDW." He brought up the cost. I looked him square in the eye & told him, "I NEED to plan this trip." He knew that at that moment nothing was as important to me as all of us going back home. And so the planning began....
Next post, I'll continue from here. Just wanted you to know that we are & I am doing much better. Disney always makes everything easier & better. why the heck I didn't take the kids while he was gone is beyond me. If he ever has to go again, we will be going w/out dear old dad. Heck, we might just move into the castle until he comes home.

I know it's late - but WELCOME HOME to your husband! Please thank him for his service in that "desert island", as well as your service and support as he was so far from home...

Congratulations on your upcoming baby!

Looking forward to reading along with your PTR.

Nikki - I'm so excited you are my 1st poster. But, I did notice that you joined the disboards way after me. So, I think I get the title as queen of all things Disney (at least w/ the two of us).

Krista - Its never too late for thanks. Our family really appreciates it. I can tell you I think the spouses, kids, & parents even more so. It looks like you have a few in your family circle as well. So, thanks to you & all of them. I see you are from MA. My dad grew up in Lowell (outside of Boston).

I don't think anyone in my family has been in the armed services since my dad was in the Navy way back when. :boat:

The strength of our military guys and gals AND their families continues to amaze me.

Hey, I know where Lowell is - we're just south of Boston in Quincy. Small World!

I don't know how you can wait for your trip in 2009! I'd be busy planning a trip, just to hold me over until my trip :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

About the military, I notiiced you had names in your signature line,s o I just assumed they were family. It means even more when people support our soldiers when they themselves aren't living the military lifestyle. As Americans we tend to get very absorbed into our own little lives. So, thank you again for all your support.

As far as another trip, when DD was 11, I told her I'd take her to Disneyland Paris when she turned 13. We'll then I ended up having a baby & so, we've postponed it until she is 16. She's in her 2nd yr of French now & so is even more excited. And she'll be the legal drinking age for there doesn't hurt much. LOL So, that trip is kinda being planned now too.

My plans for our 2009 trip will change several times before it gets set in stone. So, I'm going to try & update it very soon.

So, when are you headed back?????

Thanks for thanking me for my support, it's the very least I can do :)

A trip to Disneyland Paris for her 16th?! How cool is that!? :woohoo: I think I got money or something when I was 16. :sad2: Is it close enough that you would visit Paris too? I traveled there way back in high school... Incredibly beautiful city, the sights, the food, everything! Plus your daughter can practice her French. I found that after I butchered the language beyond recognition, most people were kind enough to say.... it's okay, I speak English - and we would carry on that way. :confused3

My sister and I are *trying* to plan a short weekend trip for the end of this October.... but it's really come down to money at this point. Do we pay on a credit card now, and worry about it later? Or do we do the fiscally responsible thing and not go? It's a tough choice.... :headache:

Looking forward to reading about your upcoming trip plans! "I love it when a plan comes together!" :smokin:

Here's the whole family (except FDS, not yet created). This was taken while DH was home for 2 weeks leave from Iraq.

Once I got the "reluctant, but I want to stay married" okay from DH, I immediately got on the computer to start the beginning stages planning of our next Disney Adventure. Actually, I think I waited about an hour. :confused3 I had to make sure hubby knew I didn't just love him b/c he was financing our trip back home. My DD knows by now that our planning goes in cycles & whatever we started w/ we end up w/ something entirely different. So, even though she was excited, she didn't want any details until it was almost finalized. You are very lucky b/c you get to go on the up & down journey that is my brain while planning.

:confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3

Being a Disney veteran, there a few things I've learned about myself (& the other ones too).

1) I love:lovestruc to save money & find the best deal. The more money we save the more we can do. Can everyone say VALUE SEASON?

2) I'm not a fan of traveling w/ anyone who can't walk yet (aka: NO BABIES ALLOWED)

3) Heat & humidity make for a grouchy Mommy. And I don't really feel like doing anything except being in air conditioning. I took the kids in May for the flower festival. DS was 4 months old & still nursing. Everytime we left the hotel, we were stuck together from the sweat. Just gross.:headache:

4) DH is very impatient with crowds of "dumb" people. I have banned him from going to the mall during Christmas unless he's had a few drinks 1st. You know when you are trying to get somewhere & you can't b/c someone is standing in your way pretending to walk, but are actually looking up at the sights. or they stop in the middle of the sidewalk w/ their stroller to get something out of their bag. :drive: Those are the kind of people that drive him crazy. Guess what? I'm one of those people. He & I have had the talk that tempers are NOT allowed at WDW. Also, crowds make him grouchy. So yes, he will be medicated or libated the entire vacation. LOL:drinking1 Because, if Daddy ain't happy, no ones happy.

5) WDW is much more fun when we have the place to ourselves. Who wants to spend their entire vacation standing in line for everything.:dance3:

6) Disney does the holidays like no one else. DD & I went to MNSSHP & had the most amazing time EVER. We haven't been during Christmas yet. But have read about all the decorations.party:

So, when I last left you, I had spewed my vast knowledge of what I must & must not do again when visiting the world. So, how exactly does that play out when planning the next GRAND ADVENTURE?

Since I was given the go ahead from hubby to book our next trip, I got to planning. I'm not one that just picks a week on the calendar & calls & books. I need to know that I will be getting the ultimate Disney experience for the least amount of my Disney Dollars. So here's what I did.

I pulled my handy dandy PassPorter off the shelf. Also referred to in our house as Mom's Disney Bible. After blowing off the dust (I said its been awhile since I've been able to plan a return trip home.), I opened it up & found all the infomation I needed. Once again, my PassPorter did not fail me. They have a great chart that shows Value Season, Crowd Level, Avg. High Temp. & Avg. Rainfall.

I'm always about saving $$$ 1st. So I find value season hits January-just before St. Valentine's Day, All of September, beginning of November-Mid Dec. I switch over to the disboards & double check my info. Everything is good to go. We agreed to wait until 2009, so we could pay off a few credit cards before we go. Also, I am determined that this trip will be no debt. That means we will pay cash for everything. No charging. Rule #1 "Save Money" check.

When I saw how low attendance was in January-mid February & I found out about Pirate & Princess Party, I got so excited. I forgot Rule #2 "No Babies Allowed". Our littlest is due mid January 2009. GRRR. And there is no way I can wait until 2010 to go to WDW. Besides DD & I will be headed to Disneyland Paris in October of 2010. 2 major trips in one year would not fit into Rule #1, So they are crossed off the list. Now we have September & November & December. And even though October is during Regular Season (more $$$), the beginning & ending of the month have low attendance & the Halloween Party & decorations are not to be missed (So Rule #2, 4, 5, & 6 all come into play). So, October is added to the list. "Low Crowds/No Lines for Rides Make the Whole Family Super Happy, Especially Daddy", Rules #4 & 5 check.

Next up is checking on the temp. We have a very specific guideline to this. Rule #3 "It can't be too hot for Mom, but has to be hot enough for DD to swim". The pool pictures are the only thing she wants to look at when deciding on our resort. September looks really hot. I check w/ fellow Dissers & find out, I'm dead on w/ this one. Disney has started offering free dining during the month,so we'ld save $$$$ on food. They start MNSSHP, the holidays are my favorite. But, the heat will just make me grouchy. So September is off the list. So now, I have October, November, & December left on the list.

Now, its time to hand over the decisions to DH & DD. I tell them the pros & cons on each month & leave the decison up to them.
October - Higher price, warm, but not too warm temp, low crowds, & Halloween decorations.
November - Value Season, still good temp, low crowds, & Christmas Decorations.
December - Value Season, but airline tickets are higher, temp probably too cold to swim (but DD is 15 so she can tough it out if she really wants to swim), low crowds, & Christmas will be in full swing.

Drumroll Please ......DH & DD agreed. We'll be having a Very Merry Christmas Season w/ Mickey & his friends. Now I need to pick a week. We always fly on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. Its the cheapest time to fly. And DDs school will only excuse 5 days missed of school. I came across an article that listed Walt's birthday as December 5th. What would be more perfect then spending Christmas time w/ my family @ WDW & celebrating Walt's birthday @ the MK. So, I decide our trip would be Wednesday, December 2 - Tuesday, December 8. I couldn't wait to book it, but it would have to wait for a few weeks. :confused3

Looks like your plans are coming along good. Not to be a downer, but I would check to see when they are taping the Christmas Parade, at that time the crowds are high and I think it is the beginning of December.

Any idea where I would find that information? And if it is, do I need tickets to get to go? Hubby could stay in the room if I could be there for the filming of the parade & seeing all the stars. I always thought it was live. :confused3
