We have our reservation for the Polynesian in December (19th-27th). I thought dh was joking, but he now wants to upgrade to concierge with our AAA discount. It essentially adds on $100 per night, taking our cost to $388 per night (including tax)

I was all ready to upgrade a month ago, but am a little nervous about being there over such a busy holiday period. Will the lounge be constantly crowded, and run out of food? Because we're there at such a busy time, I definitely anticipate more down time in the hotel than we usually have.

ANy thoughts would be appreciated.

Ok first - whenever a husband says upgrade to concierge - now that is the time to be listening to him!

Next - that will be a WONDERFUL time to be at the Poly concierge. We were there this year over the beginning of those dates - earlier on it wasn't as busy as later however I think the building was sold out the entire time.

I talk to one of the concierges there and that building is often sold out but it works out fine.

I have been there when the lounge was packed and another time when it wasn't busy at all.

As far as running out of food -- our plan landed at 5:30 and we got to the Poly about 6:45 - to the lounge just before 7 and there was plenty of food - they do really replenish it.

I just had out my scrapbook a few minutes ago - can hardly wait to go back!

Liz,

Do you have kids? Did your kids like the food choices? Any more details?

Did you watch the fireworks from the lounge?

Julia

Well yes - I have one - a 17 year old - but I have also travelled to the Poly concierge for a week last July with her and my 4 and 6 year olds niece and nephew and once in October with a friend who has a 9 year old daughter.

I LOVE watching the fireworks from either the lounge or my room -- actually I prefer my room but when we are garden view we watch from the lounge. We have always been able to time it to get a table right up front....actually in all the times we have done it I have never seen the lounge real crowded at the time of the actual fireworks.

As for the food. In the morning there are cereals, danish and fruit as well as fruit juices. The children all had favorites and had no trouble.

Mid day is snack items ... really kid favorites gummy bears, M&Ms (not that brand though) gold fish, a trail mix, fruits and some fruit juices.

Appetizer time from 5-7 always has vegetables and dip and fruits and a caramel dip, then usually a couple of different hot items (I have seen mac and cheese, nachos and cheese, chicken strips (that you add sauce too) wings, and more...I can't begin to remember it all. Oh there is always a couple of kinds of cheese out then too and wine (for me!)

There are also always uncrustables out late afternoon and evenings (I think you can ask for them other times too).

Dessert time is generally sample size desserts that are wonderful and from early afternoon til late night there are three kinds of cookies out (chocolate chip, oatmeal and sugar). Brownies are sometimes out too.

There is both white and chocolate milk (you might have to ask) and sodas available.

Hope that helps.

Upgrade!! You will not be sorry. We stayed concierge at the Poly last summer and now are ruined for any other resorts. We traveled with our sons ages 1 and 5 at the time. The lounge was so convenient for us and for their snacking/drinking needs. I never noticed a low level of food and whatever we asked for was given to us. There are chocolate milk and juice boxes behind the counter for kids all day long (you have to ask for it). The staff was very helpful and nice.

You know that is so true - we are going over Easter and staying in a one bedroom villa at Saratoga Springs - which I am looking forward to - but I know I will miss the Poly concierge!

Hi there! You can get the Polynesian concierge for December, using AAA discount, for $388 per night INCLUDING tax?!?!? Isnt that time frame holiday rates? Even for value season $388 for Polynesian concierge sounds awfully low. I'm staying at the Wilderness Lodge in July, value season, and paying $360 per night for concierge, and I know the Polynesian is a lot more $$$$. If you really can get that rate then grab it!!!! :teeth:

Julia,

We were there the exact same dates as you but in 2004. We were at POFQ though. We thought that the parks were empty until Christmas day. And even then for only half-a-day. We had planned on being in Epcot for Christmas (as we had a PS at The Land), but it rained so heavily that we headed over to MK and rode everything with absolutely no lines. So if you're worried about crowds, I wouldn't worry.

Well, it's garden view, not lagoon view. We decided concierge garden view was better for our family than lagoon view with no concierge.

The regular rate is $404 per night, and we have AAA discount, which makes it $348. With tax it's $388.

We are checking in on December 19, which means we are paying value rates. If we check in December 20, it jumps to holiday season, and rack rate becomes $484 for garden view and $595 for garden view concierge! And no AAA discounts, apparently!

Julia

EDITED to add: I think we're going to do it....any more comments about Poly concierge are appreciated!

That's good to hear!

We will be at POR for our first two nights (17th and 18th). I love PO, but with three kids, the rooms are really small for us. But we're staying the first two nights, to lower our hotel costs a bit
