While I wait to find one, I have a couple of burning questions:
  • Are there accessories that I should also be looking for?
  • What game comes with it?
  • Will that be appropriate for my kids 5 & 9?

Thanks

It comes with wii sports (bowling, boxing, tennis, baseball, and golf) and one wii remote and nunchuck. I would definitely buy a 2nd remote/nunchuck since you have kids. I got mine a month ago and I LOVE it.

It's definitely for kids and adults. I have Call of Duty 3 for it (a WW2 game) that I like but is not appropriate for your kids' ages probably. The sports games are a ton of fun though.

The Wii is SO MUCH FUN!! My son and I play it every weekend... unfortunately I never WIN!!

I suggest you sign up to www.nowinstock.net It's how my boss and my co-worker got one... I forwarded the email to them and both jumped on it quickly!

Good luck. It's the only video game system I've found that I like!

We love our Wii!!

Dh won't bowl with me (I've gotten 300 once and usually score 279 or 289). Wii Play is great (love the fishing game) and I can't wait to try Cooking Mamas. We've also rented Wario Smooth Moves. It's really strange, but a lot of fun if you can handle the manic-ness.

DH and I got our Wii from the launch party at Universal City Walk in L.A. We had my family over to play it and they all had so much fun they decided they wanted to get one too! We bought it for them as a late Christmas present. My 80 year old grandma loves the bowling so much and she's good at it too! It's fun for the entire family! I believe Nintendo accomplished what they set out to do which was bring gaming to the masses.

Are the extra remotes/nunchucks hard to find as well?

I will take a look at that site

We LOVE our Wii.

Wii Sports is enough to get you started. I'd get nunchucks and an extra controller (Wii Play comes with one and additional games).

My DS is 5 and loves the Tony Hawk game.

My SIL is 19 and loves Monkey Ball. I've heard good things about WarioWare and Rayman.

IMO Call of Duty is not appropriate for young kids. DH has it for 360 and loves it but it gives DS nightmares.

Wii Sports & Wii Play are both good games that are fun for the whole family. It's also fun to create your own Mii character (you customize it to look just like you). :thumbsup2

Wario Smooth Moves is fun! It's very random and fun. The only downside is that it's short (I beat the entire game in less than a day) and you can't play multi-player mode unless it's for their mini-games like playing darts.

I have Monkey Ball but I don't really like it that much. I do like Cooking Mama. I just bought that a few days ago and it's fun!

Zelda is fun too but you have to have patience. It's more of a strategy type of game.

Cars is also fun for kids because you can race each other. :thumbsup2:

I'm addicted to my Wii!! It's awesome and lots of fun. I went to Fry's the day after Christmas and I was told they only received 30 in stock so I bought one. The wii-motes were hard to find but one night Target had some in stock so I bought 3 wii-motes (I have 4 total). I got Wii Play from Fry's the day it came out. I didn't know it came with any extra Wii-mote. You should definitely buy a Wii! :) It's good because you can't just sit there like a couch potato and play these games. Most of their games recquire that you stand up and move so it makes you active.

I saw a news clip the other day that showed Seniors at a Senior Center playing the Wii!!!!

The activity person brought it in and hooked it up. Right now they are BOWLING.. :thumbsup2
They were showing the elderly bowling with the Wii.;)

The activity person said she was going to do golf next. :cool1:

My boss printed that article and gave it to me Friday! He's in his 60s, I'm in my 50s and we're Wii FREAKS!! We had a belly laugh at that one!:rotfl2:

We love our Wii! We took it to Florida with us, I think we're going to get my FIL one for his birthday this year - he had a great time with it! We have Wario, Wii Play, Rayman, and Cooking Mama. Our 5 and 10 year old play all the time, it's great! DD is getting good at tennis and DS loves the boxing.

Here's a pic of my FIL he's 66 and DS 10 playing, they were doing the boxing, we were rolling by the time it was over! :thumbsup2

There are definitely games your 5 year old can play. My 3 year old bowls about an average of 130, sometimes with a pacifier in her mouth. ( the weaning process has been slow). She is also good at golf until its time to putt. :)

I love my Wii! The bowling game is great (though I am not too good at it yet). My favorite game for it is Trauma Center (though I pretty much stink at that too).

Everyone will love it -- you included. It comes with Wii sports, which is lots of fun.

You'll want an extra controller IF you can ever find one. They are more difficult to get than Wiis where I live, so we don't have one yet. Since we had a Gamecube, we can use those controllers, but they don't do as much as the Wii ones.

You can only use the GC controllers with GC games, not Wii games, but it's still a great thing. If you never had a GC you can pick up some of the great old games cheap to boost you game library.

Check out the thread in my siggy if you have any other questions OP. Good luck finding your system! I've heard that they are finally getting easier to find, but still for the most part, you won't be able to walk into any store and find one. Maybe after easter.

BTW BelleBoo&AmisMum, GREAT pic! Thanks for sharing!!
