I posted a few days ago asking opinions on traveling with a 5 1/2 month old. We were planning on going in March to WDW for 4 nights and then on to St.Pete for 1 week. My DH told me yesterday that he thinks that it's going to be too long with a infant which means cancelling the WDW portion. He is not addicted to WDW like myself! He likes it and all but doesn't really get the "magic" like myself. He wants to wait to go back to WDW until DS(now 4 1/2) is closer to 7!!! We have gone 3 times in the past 2 years so I am really bummed about this although as much as I hate to admit it I think he may be right. 11 days probably would be too long with an infant and the condo we are renting at the beach can only be rented weekly so splitting a shorter stay is not possible unless we don't rent the condo that we love. It's directly on the beach and has a wonderful balcony oceanfront which will be nice when the baby is napping to read etc. So I thought I would cry to you all. How am I going to get through 2 years without a "fix"? Maybe we can drive up and go to the parks 1 day. It's only a little over an hour away.
Cheer me up please!

I don't think 11 days is too long with an infant, especially since you will have a condo the majority of the time....that is almost like being at home. I would need to better understand the exact concerns with having an infant on vacation for 11 days...does he think that he/she won't sleep in a strange place?

I think he thinks that WDW would be kind of a waste because the baby won't know any better and last year when we went DS was really afraid of a lot of the rides. He wouldn't even go on Dumbo!!! Although we tried to go back on it and it was pouring so hard we had to get off. DS insists that he will go on more rides this time around but he is kind of a scardy cat! I like just being at the resorts, going to Chef Mickey's, O'hana's etc. which my DS really enjoys also. We were going to stay at ASMo again(to keep costs down) which my DS LOVES. See, to me going to WDW is not all about the parks it's just being there that counts. I know I can convince DH to go(I always do!) but I don't want to make him do something he doesn't really want either. He is utimately a very easy going guy that will do anything to make his family happy he just needs to put up a fight every once in awhile!LOL My DS has no idea that we are suppose to go and I have no intentions of telling him until right before the trip so disappointing him is not a concern. Going to WDW will be quite an added expense adding up hotel, dinners(because we really enjoy them! Part of our disney ritual), added days of car rental(we fly into Tampa usually because that is closer to St.Pete) etc. Given the added info what do you all think now?

We have traveled all over the eastern US (including WDW) with babies of all ages and with a little preparation and the knowledge that you may have to slow down and take breaks more often, you should be just fine.

Probably not the answer your DH would want to hear!! I don't think a trip to Disney is ever a waste of time....what great memories you'd be building with your new baby! Since we found out I'm pregnant we've changed our travel plans because I'd rather travel with an infant than while pregnant! Our next trip is in Oct 2004 and the baby should be 6 months by then. We'll be staying in a house which I think will be wonderful!!! The last time we traveled with an infant we stayed at the Contemporary which was perfect for going back to for afternoon naps.

Whatever you decide, I'm sure it'll be a fun relaxing time for the whole family.

You could leave him home and take me instead. :teeth: I'll help with the kids and everything!!!!!

Well, the baby will not be adding additional cost to your trip at that young of an age. I would look at the memories you will be making and decide if you want that or not. If money is an issue, then I would go to St. Pete's and maybe go to Disney one day. DH and I did go from Kissimee to St. Pete's for a day visit and the travel wasn't bad at all. Maybe take your son to a summer festival or a amusement park nearby and see how he does with rides. If he does well then you go!!!!!!

I hate to say it, but I do see your dh's point. I'm sure a lot of people would be fine with such an extended vacation with the baby, but personally I would feel stressed about the length, amount of stuff, etc. Maybe since you will only be an hour away, you could drive up for a day and shop at Downtown Disney, take a stroll around the boardwalk, and have a character meal. That way you still get a taste of Disney. I hope you have a wonderful vacation no matter how it works out :) .

I say do it. Even though your baby will not remember being at Disney for the first time, it will be fun. All the sights and sounds will keep he/she very alert and interested. Our DD was 6 months when we drove from Michigan to Wyoming. We were gone for over 2 weeks and we camped in a tent. Yes it's a little more work to pack everything that is needed for an infant but you will have fun.

debster-you got yourself a deal!LOL
I think I will work on him a bit more. Hey, I'll have gone through 9 months of a very sick pregnancy, a c-section, and countless sleepless nights so I owe it to myself!LOL If I can endure that, he can put up with 3/4 wonderful nights of "magic", right? Like I said I know I can convince him but I just wasn't sure it was the right thing to do! I guess it will ultimately come down to finances. The condo isn't cheap and we all know how much WDW can cost!! I'm like a kid in a candy shop there-NO CONTROL!!LOL I'm glad you have all convinced me to fight a little harder because I was really bummed about the thought of not going. I need a WDW fix. It lifts my spirits!!!
