We will only have 2 partial days that are not planned. So he said he was not hauling the bikes. Can we still get around?

Yeah, but it would be so much better with the bikes. Even on park days, they come in handy for a quick trip to the trading post or the pool, and to me, a morning at the Fort just isn't right without an early morning bike ride. Talk him into taking them. He won't be sorry if he does, but I bet he will be if he doesn't.

Thanks for the info, I was debating not bringing our bikes either, its costs me 2 MPG but I was thinking it would be a pain to take them on and off the camper since we are staying 4 different campgrounds in 9 Days...I will definitely bring them now though based on this advice

Yep, bikes make the Fort so much more enjoyable for us. I understand they can be a pain to haul, and I skip them on trips to some locations, but at FW they are awesome to have. If you are not big into bikes and will have a golf cart, you might be ok, but if you enjoy riding them you will LOVE riding at the Fort.

We brought just the two boys bikes for our 14 day trip, and I regret even bringing those. It was too hot to get around by bike. The buses are air conditioned and run frequently. I love to ride my bike, but not at FW. The boys only rode once - not worth the added mpg, in my opinion. We won't be bringing them next time.

Sure do hope your hubby likes walking,,cause ya'll WILL wanna get around the Fort.
Hey, I KNOW!! Maybe he's gonna surprize you with a golf buggy rental !!
YEA, THATS IT,,a golf buggy rental ! :thumbsup2

Are ya'll bike riders? My kids would go crazy w/o their bikes! We take them everywhere we go. Sure there has been a time or two they haven't ridden them as much as the effort it took to get the bikes there, but it's a rarity...like extreme rain. (Temperature does not bother them.) But we have never gone anywhere when they did not ride the bikes at all!

Now, persuading the dh can be a delicate task. I mean if my dh sets his mind on "not taking the bikes", they are NOT going no matter how much begging, crying, and carrying on I do. Some times you just gotta let them have their way and then they will see the error of their way. ;)

You are going to have to get around the Fort. That place is huge and if a GC is not an option, you can use their bus system or be prepared to walk like a mad man.

I don't understand - if I say no and my wife says yes, then the yeas have it. I tell ya, I get no respect.

Okay if I were being really honest, I do usually beg, cry, and carry on until I have driven him to the point that he gives in. I lied allright. I wanted to sound like a good, submissive, sweet little wife. But the truth is, I'm not. I am an evil, selfish, controlling woman. There I said it.

What REALLY is the point of saying no if she says yes? I know we are all friends here but lets just admit who is running things :thumbsup2

We always bring our bikes. We never rent a golf cart and we find that having our bikes makes life at the Fort better. In our opinion, it's much more convenient to ride our bikes to the boat dock to catch the boat to the Magic Kingdom or to the major bus stops to get to the other parks instead of taking a bus to get there. If we want to go to the pool, it's much faster to ride the bikes than walk or wait for the bus.

We also love riding our bikes on the exercise trail at night. We always see animals, usually deer, on the trail. We've even seen bobcats and owls.

The other reason is that if I'm riding my bike a lot during the day then I allow myself a few extra calories during the day!!

I'll admit it - she's the boss. I mean, I have a good 50 lbs on her, but she scares me. Usually she lets me think I have made the final decision, then she just goes and does whatever she wants anyway. I have to admit it, for the most part things work out better her way.

Oh you guys sound just like my dh. He is a man of few words, but when he talks, you better listen! He does pretty much let me do whatever and he admits that most of the time things work out better my way. But I'm telling you, there have been a few times in 14 years that he was relentless on something, I chose to "do it my way", and boy did I regret it! Latest example... it ironically involves a bike! I was at my parents' house in FL and was bike riding. I saw a Pit Bull running loose and told dh about it. (He was working in TN to pay for the kids and me to visit my family.:lovestruc) He told me, "Honey, do not go down that road again. I mean it." I replied, "Oh, honey, it's the best road out here and it gives me such a great workout. I'll be fine." So, 2 days later I set out on my bike down the "Pit Bull road" and lo and behold, that PB came after me with a vengance.:scared: Long story short, I have been going to physical therapy for 9 months, I am in constant pain, and we have forked out about $6000 in expenses, not counting what the insurance has paid. So, I really have learned to listen to him when he has something to say.:worship:

What's hers is hers what's mine is ours!:lmao:
DH says YES + DW says NO = YES
DH says NO + DW says YES = YES
DH says YES + DW says YES = Repeat question to make sure DH was paying attention:rotfl:

That's exactly WHY I want to ride my bike while I'm there! Even though I walk 50 miles a day at the parks, I still seem to carry an extra 5-7 pounds home with me. :scared1: I am hoping with the "down time" at the Fort, I can burn a few extra calories out on the bike.

I am saving for a GC rental for my Mom though. She is going with us and has limited mobility. Maybe the kids and I can try to keep up with her on the GC. :rotfl: That'll be a good workout!

When we were at the fort we brought my 3 DD's foldable non electric scooters. The girls rode them all around and they were easy to pack.
I know they are not the same as bikes, but it was an outlet for them!!!!!

We always bring the bikes. Golf carts look like fun, but a bit pricey for our budget. I'd rather put that money into an extra night. We love riding the bikes all around. The path from FW to Wilderness Lodge is a special favorite with us. Go erly morning or towards dusk and you can see lots of deer. I find it peacefull riding there. I don't ride at home as much as I ride there. There is something about FW that makes riding more special.

Well I think most of us have agreed that bikes (or scooters) are a great form of fun and transportation while at the Fort. All you have to do is kindly persuade that dh of yours to bring them along. :flower3:

He stood firm on the not packing the bikes deal. But He did decided to suprize us with a cart for our FT day. We only spent one full day at the campgrounds checking stuff out. We will know better if there is next time
