DH just walked in the house with a tux! He told me to book a dinner where he can dressup. I wish I knew this when he first bought the tux! Where can we possibly get a fancy dinner reserved at only 26 (well he's coming a week later so 33) days in advance?
What restaurants do you even need to wear a tux? how about CA Grill? Narcoosses? Jiko?

I don't believe a tux would be appropriate anywhere on WDW property. Though I've never dined there, my understanding is that Victoria and Alberts is the only restaurant where a jacket is required, but even there, I think a tux would be overkill.

1) Actually, a tux does fit in nicely at many better restaurants.
2) Of course, he might be taken as the Maitre 'D
3) The most apropos would be at Victoria & Albert's.
4) Next, a catered evening meal on the beach. (Now, that's kewl!) *

* Just remember, it is shaken, not stirred.

Not to mention he is going to be QUITE WARM :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: in late August in that tux!!!!

I agree with the posts above, V&A would be the only place I'd even consider a tux.

Did he buy the tux for Disney?

Tell him to trade it in for some shorts.
:rotfl2:

Only one I would say he wouldn't feel so out of place would be V&A. Narcoosee was much more casual than that and Ca. Grill isn't that fancy imho either- I don't think Jiko is either but I have never been there. Wow a man and a tux with no where to go... oh wait I know ... Time to book a cruise!!!! :sail:

I agree with V&A.

I have seen guys in tuxes at California Grill but they were HS kids dressed for prom. Also at YSH but that was a wedding party.

But really, it's WDW. If some adults wear Mickey ears, why not a tux? There is such a variety of dress at the signature restaurants already, if he doesn't mind being the only one in a tux, why not? :sunny:

No, CA Grill is pretentious, but not particularly fancy.

People are going to assume you came from a wedding; either the groom or in the wedding party.

You'll probably be the only non-employee in a tux. Unless you dine at V&A you'll probably be the only non-employee wearing a suit.

I wouldn't bother brining a tux.

I don't know Lewis, I've seen suits at many signature restaurants. But I do agree about the wedding party thing.

But who cares....its WDW. :confused3

And a tux is perfectly appropriate at V&A although most men will not be in one.

If your DH bought the tux specifically for the trip -- and wants to wear it -- book V&A. Although he'll be dressed more formally than others at V&A, I don't think he'll be out of place, especially if you dress similarly -- fancy cocktail dress or full length dress. The ambience of the restaurant, as well as the glamour of the Grand Floridian lobby, lends itself to elegant dressing.

Don't disappoint DH by telling him there's no restaurant to wear his tux at! But, V&A is the only restaurant where I think it would be appropriate to wear it. Even though the so-called "signature" restaurants are now stressing business casual (CA Grill, Jiko, Artist Point, etc.), that version of business casual is pretty dress down business casual. Just about anything but tank tops and flip flops on men seems to be okay. So, a man in a tux would look out of place.

DH would not be out of place wearing a tux to V&A, IMO.

If he wants to wear a tux, let him go for it!!! V&A is a good place where it'll fit in, but who cares what other people think or what's considered out of place. This meal is about you two...not about other people. My DH and I went in a nice black suit and formal gown to CRT (people did think we had just gotten married, but we enjoyed the fun of dressing up) and we've worn formal dresswear to Brown Derby. No one else was dressed like that...just us. But we had fun with it...it's now become our tradition to pick a restaurant that we'll look all fancy to. The "glamour" is fun...live it up!

Victoria and Alberts is the only place I think he wouldn't feel odd in a tux.

The signature restaurants supposedly have a dress code but really, most men were in khaki shorts and polos. I made my DH wear his dress khakis and he was overdressed compared to most men there.

Only you know your DH. Mine would be very embarassed if he was significantly overdressed in comparison to the other patrons and the waitstaff but other men wouldn't care at all. I'm all for wearing what you want in order to make something special if both of you are cool with that ;)

My thoughts exactly....time to cruise. (That is going to be one expensive tux)

I thought you had a cruise booked for this August. That would be the best place to wear a tux.

As far as not being able to get a reservation, I wouldn't worry about being less then a month out, as long as you are willing to dine later in the evening. With a tux, it won't be as hot later either :thumbsup2

I just made ADRs for California Grill, O'hana, Boma, etc with only 2 weeks notice. We like to eat late, so all our reservations are for after 8pm.

Figure out where you want to go and call -- you will be pleasantly surprised, I'll wager.

Have fun!!!

With a tux V&A is really the only possible option. And he will not be mistaken for one of the servers as they wear brown morning coats. It is not really out of the ordinary to see men in tuxedos there.

It's not the only possible option. It's just the option that makes the most sense. Disney does not stop people from dressing formally at any of their restaurants (my DH and I do it every trip), therefore there ARE other possible options if people choose to do it. :)

I believe that a tux is never inappropriate - particularly when on a special date with your "best girl." I think he will be least out of place at V&A's, but would look great at any of the high end meals. Most people will just assume that it is your anniversary (and heck celebrate an un-anniversary for the fun of it!). Life is about celebrating the moment and whimsy. I think most onlookers would think it neat to see a man looking so debonair!
