This happens every time he volunteers to take them.

Last well check for DS.....told him just a check up, no shots, etc........well there were booster shots. Drama, etc.

Then DD's well check. Same thing. No, I don't think she's due any shots. Just a check up. Well guess what....there were shots.

Today DD had an appointment at the allergy doctor. Just a routine follow up. Well, guess what.......they want to skin prick test her again today. :scared1: DH has never been through a skin prick test with DD. This should be interesting.

I am sure he will never volunteer to take them again.

LOL, he's a big boy, he'll live. i do feel badly for the kids though, especially your DD-those skin tests are no fun. something similar happened to me last year-i told DD she was going to the Dr. for a booster shot, no big deal, we just pop in and out, don't need to see the doctor, really quick. she ended up getting THREE shots and cried and screamed like a baby-she was 11! i felt so bad, like i'd lied to her, lol (i was only told in advance about 1 shot).

When my kids ask me if they are getting shots, I tell them "probably." This way, they are pleasantly surprised if they don't get them.

It is hard, but it is all part of parenting.

Well, he got out easy.

The doctor decided to postpone the skin prick test for 3 weeks. DD's eczema and asthma have been flaring with the seasonal weather change and dr. gave her a breathing treatment in the office. So she wants to wait 3 weeks and bring her back for the skin prick test. So DD will have to miss some part of a school day after all.....had scheduled this one during fall break so she would not miss any school.

At Lucas' last checkup, when he got the shots, I swore to myself DH would be taking him next time.

Pretty sure it'll be me again, though.

According to DH "Moms handle the tough stuff better."

That's why we birth children. If men had to do it, the human race would be over! (I remind DH of this every time he talks about men being "stronger" then women...and the fact that he nearly passed out when I was in labor...:rotfl2::rotfl2:!)

Yeah. DH doesn't handle the shot thing very well. He'd really have problems if he ever has to watch them take blood from DD. She takes after him and has veins that are very deep and roll......had to take her to the ER once and they stuck her about 3 times in each arm trying to get a vein unsuccessfully....she was about 3 so you can imagine all that went along with that....she is a major drama queen which makes it worse. Finally they had to take it out of one of the veins on top of her hand and had her hand balled up so tight it was white. It was horrible. For the life of me I can't figure out why the ER needs to draw 3 or 4 vials when if I take her to the peds they just do the finger prick and run all those same tests and can tell you within a few minutes the results.

"Volunteer"?!?!?!? I thought when you became a parent it was your OBLIGATION to parent - which includes taking your child to the doctor.

Isn't this part of his duty as a parent? Not just "when he feels like it."

DS8 has his annual check-up on Thurs. He's not due for any shots. But it's at the same time that DD5 has dance lessons. I told DH, "You can take DD5 to dance lessons or DS8 to his Drs. check-up." He picked the doctor's apt. IMO, the dance lesson is waaaay easier. But DH seems to have some aversion to lots of little girls in pink leotards.

My DD16 is extremely phobic about needles. She had some very bad experiences when she was young and has never been able to get past them. When she went for her middle school shots, I thought they'd only have one, but she ended up needing 3. Before you could say your name she was off the table, ran down the hall and locked herself in the office bathroom! I was mortified! It took us about 15 minutes to get her out of there. She eventually did allow the shots, but it was a very dramatic visit.

The next time she had to get a shot I sent her dad with her. She didn't pull that crap with him! Apparently he took the bull by the horns and let her know that "we" aren't going to put up with that. Easy-peasy, rolled up her sleeves-y. :confused3

I will have to say, she has gotten better lately. She wanted her ears pierced and insisted on having the doctor do it, rather than the lady in the mall. And she actually requested to go to her doctor for a flu shot. They have a sharp, no nonsense nurse in there--Eleni says she gives the best shots. :upsidedow Whatever...

DD's DH would have thrown up - and then passed out cold on the floor..:( He has a severe phobia about needles and unfortunately he has had a health condition since he was 12 that requires blood tests twice a year.. It's terribly traumatic for him.. You can just "mention" the word "needle" in the course of a conversation and he'll turn sheet white and start to sweat profusely..:sad2:

Needless to say, he does not take my DGD to the doctor or the dentist..
