I told him that I really don't want to try Mission: Space, I don't want to throw up while on vacation (his sister threw up after riding it, she said the CMs were great and gave her clean clothes but still!). He said I really have to try it but please ride with strangers in case I do get sick. Then he said "so when you come home you can read on the disboards about the girl who puked on M:S and you can say, 'hey that was me!'"

I'm hesitent to try this ride myself..even with dramamine i dont know if i'm going to handle it well...i may send my husband on first and then if he thinks i'll be ok then i'll ride (he ususally is a good judge). He knows not to joke about my motion sickness tho he has seen it in action. You never know if your there in oct i might be throwing up on mission space right along side you. I would hate to not ride and then regret it if i think i could have handled it.

My hubby always tests the rides first for me, he knows about how much movement/shaking etc that I can handle. He is a good judge for me, and then if he thinks I can handle it, we try it together.

My DH does not like "spinny" rides so when he saw the warning sign inside he decided he would take my friend's DD out for us. What a guy! She wasn't sure if she wanted to ride it but he convinced her that she didn't. It was funny and we joked about it but I know I wouldn't want him to ride something and then feel sick for a couple of hours afterwards so I was fine with it. I think he will probably pass on our next trip in February too. He refuses to ride the Tea Cups. We are taking DS's friend with us though and I know he has motion sickness. Does anyone know if Dramamine does make the ride tolerable because I would hate for him to try it and the be sick afteward. :sunny:

I get motion sickness also just from riding in the passenger seat of a car. I tempted to ride this 2 years ago and I'm glad I did. I'll be honest when I first was in line I was so nervous and scared and my heart was beating so fast. I tried to calm myself down and listen to the way they tell you not to look around. I sat in the seat in the ride which has cold air blowing towards you, I aimed my face directly into the air and kept it there the whole time (which really helped alot) The I did not move my eyes from the screen in front of me. I was still nervous about getting that dizzy , nauseu (sp) feeling . But I got off the ride and even though I felt a bit disoriented I did have a headache but did not feel sick at all. I was amazed cuz again I feel sick over everything.

One time before we were married, my husband and I went on a Catamaran with his buddy and the buddy's girlfriend. She owned the cat. We got about 10 feet from the shore and I said that I need to turn back, I was getting sick. All three of them just chuckled and said I would be okay. About two minutes later I puked all over the canvas deck that the four of us were sitting on. They turned the boat back and I got off. Never heard a word since.

In fact, once when we were on the Blackball Ferry out of Victoria, BC, and I got very sick, my loving husband found a trashbag for me (clean out of a trash can) and held it for me to throw up in.

He and our son know that I can't do lots of rides because of motion sickness. They don't press it and I have tried a few, unsuccessfully. Not as bad as the ferry or the catamaran, but on the verge.

That said, I'd give anything to be able to ride on Mission:Space. I have always wanted to be an astronaut and go into space.

oh lordy...i wont ride that ride..i have an inner ear disorder and just the thought of it makes me ill....hey i wont ride the tea pots either...no way....i will keep my feet planted as firmly as i can on the ground thank you...

My DH, who does not have motion sickness, has always gone on every ride at every WDW Park and every amusement park we have visited. In 1996, 5 days after having his gall blatter removed (full blown operation - not laser), he insisted we go on our scheduled trip to WDW and he went on every ride.

Our last trip we went on Mission Space. He said once was enough, he won't go on again.

As for me, who does suffer from motion sickness, I won't be going on again. I'm really glad I had the experience -- once --. I can't blame the motion sickness, it's just really an intense sensation and I don't think I can handle that again.

I think ckret01 gave good advice about keeping your eyes straight ahead.

WOW, your story is EXACTLY like mine. Strange that I can't even watch a 360 movie or ride star tours, but managed mission space better than expected. Of course I was so scared of getting sick that I can't say that I enjoyed to ride...but I did it! :rotfl2:

I get motion sick too!

I always take Dramamine Less Drowsy formula. I start taking it the NIGHT before we leave and take it every night before bed. It works for 24 hours, but when you take it at night, you never feel sleepy. As long as it's in your system and you continue to take it you will feel great.

I used to have to wait hours between rides or not go on some rides at all before taking this. Now I can go on anything and not be affected by anything. Missopn Space....not a problem, not even dizzy.

This works so well, I took it for everyday on a cruise. We got off the ship and drove to Universal and first ride was the Hulk. I kept my eyes open the entire ride :goodvibes never got sick or dizzy.

It makes a huge difference.....

I am tea-cup-aphobic as well. Scariest ride in WDW IMO, but I had to try Mission Space at least once. So many times I almost got out of line! Those endless warnings! clausterphobic? prone to motion sickness? Yup, that's me! I stuck with it though, and I was doing great until about the last third of the ride when I went clammy. I didn't throw-up, but I didn't feel right for about 3 hours.

I'm glad I tried it, but I'll never go back.

I'm so glad to hear this worked on the cruise! There are very few rides I DO go on in WDW b/c of motion sickness- I get sick if I turn my head too fast! It is a terrible feeling- like having morning sickness all the time! I've had vertigo before and I also perforated my ear drum so I am definitely prone to motion sickness. However, we have our first cruise ever booked in March 2006 and I am determined not to get sick! I don't mind missing the rides at the park- I stay with DD2 while DH goes with DS6. I'm there for the atmosphere and shows anyway! But I will cry  if I am sick on the cruise! I will definitely check out the Dramamine.

I've said it before on other threads, there isn't enough money to get me back on MS!! I was soooooooo sick and it was all my fault because I ignored all the warnings to "run". Don't let anyone talk you into it if you think you will get sick. You will if you have motion sickness problems.

The good news is that I waited and threw-up on France!!!! :rotfl2: I felt so much better after that!

I have trouble with rides that spin myself. I wouldn't let DH spin the teacup last trip so we just kind of sat there. :teeth: Anyway, DH and BIL rode Mission Space and DH told me I made the right choice not riding it. It is not that I am scared (I love roller coasters), but I don't want to spend the rest of the day feeling bad either. My SIL rode it and said never again. So DH can ride it by himself next trip. And I have been told I'm not allowed with DH and my son on the teacups next time.

Is Dramamine by prescription or can you buy it off the shelf?

You can buy it at any drugstore over the counter.

Make sure you get the LESS DROWSY formula and take it at night before you go to bed. This way if it does make you sleepy, you will not know because you're going to sleep! Take it the night BEFORE YOU GO so it is in your system and take it every night there after. One dose works for 24 hours. It really works wonders, and there are no side affects.

It's worth a try.

I read about a motion sickness patch that you can get from your doctor on another thread.
My stepmom used the patch when she went on a cruise to Alaska. She said it was rough water and she was the only one in her group that did not get sick and she was the only one with the patch.

I ALWAYS have Dramamine in the house. I was told by a nurse to use it for nausea of any kind... swear by it now. If I even think I'm gonna be nauseous (sp?) I take one.

My husband, who is a sailor and NEVER gets motion sickness, came out of Mission Space green and shaking. He wouldn't do anything else that day that moved! I never even considered it since I have issues with any ride that uses centrifical force. No one who loves you should force you to do anything you don't want to do, especially if it can ruin your enjoyment of even part of your vacation. Just say no!

I'm glad I'm not the only one! I won't do the tea cups, just watching makes me ill! :sad2:

Me too. I will gladly go on ToT, RnR, BTMR, et al, with my DD7.5, but I will NOT go on the teacups. I just can't handle the spinning. :puke:
