DH has decided no seat down meal for Christmas. I need

We're doing the appetizer thing on Christmas Eve and something similar on Christmas Day. I love these easy meals for the holidays.

pepperoni/cheese/crackers
veggies and dip
pickles and olives
cranberry meatballs (same as the grape jelly recipe but with cranberry sauce)
hummus and pita bread
maybe mini pizzas - homemade bagel bites

Christmas Day at MIL
more cranberry meatballs
veggies & dip
potato salad
deviled eggs
lunch meat/cheese tray
7 layer taco dip
and probably a few other easy foods depending on what people bring.

We always make Alpo. It's easy & doesn't have to be piping hot to still be good.

1 lb Velveeta
1 lb hamburger
1 lb sausage

Cook the meat, add the cheese & put it on Italian or rye bread & bake until crispy. Super easy!

We do appetizers for Christmas Eve, here is what we are having:

Shrimp cocktail
Pigs in blanket
mini beef wellingtons (bought at BJ's)
mini crab cakes(BJ's)
Baked brie/ apricot jam in pastry with crackers
Bagels
lox
baked salmon
tuna salad
egg salad

If I did this- these would be some I would choose from:

shrimp cocktail
spinach dip in bread bowl
veggie platter and dip
cheese, meat and crackers
pepperoni roll
meatballs
buffalo chicken dip and tortilla chips- all time favorite at every party I bring it too.
deviled eggs

Instead of the normal cheese ball you could do cheese pin wheels.
-Cream cheese
- caned ham or dried beef
- shredded cheese
- fresh chives
- some ranch dressing powder
Mix all together and spread on a flour tortilla or flavored tortilla. Roll it up and cut into slices. Looks like a pinwheel. You can omit what you don't like or add what you like, other than the cream cheese.

Easy and good!

Put meatballs, grape jam, yellow mustard in a crockpot. I use the frozen meatballs, 1 large and 1 small jar of jam, 1 large mustard.

Has anyone made Buffalo chicken dip with real chicken instead of canned? I always thought canned chicken tasted off.

We started a tradition of appetizers for Christmas eve a few years ago! My son's idea,he'll do anything NOT to eat a vegetable...

We've had

Mozzarella sticks
Buffalo wings
Parmesan chicken nuggets
Savorings (by Pillsbury, they're good!)
meatball sliders
shrimp skewers
pigs in a blanket
deviled eggs
flavored wings by Sams Club

ummmm.. I'm hungry!:cool2:

nope the canned chicken is the best to use for this recipe. I always buy the chicken in bulk at costco in the cans and use 2. I mix it all in the mixer. Once its all mixed I have had people say to me- there is chicken in it? Im telling you once you make it- it will be the most requested recipe and the biggest hit at your party...

Rachael Ray has a recipe where she usesthe real chicken. Its through her shows webpage east google find. Not sure if its the same with the substitution of nincanned or not. I havent tried it but she has said a few times its the most requested recipe on the site.

You've gotten some great suggestions.

Another favorite - finger sandwiches with chicken salad (we like Willow Tree brand best :thumbsup2), tuna salad and/or ham salad.

a pickle and olive tray - gotta love the simplicity this one - just open the jars and put the different bite size pickles and olives in a divided dish with a cup of toothpicks. I'm amazed at how frequently these trays empty.

Sweet and sour meatballs - make your favorite plain (non-seasoned) meatball - frozen also work - should be 1 inch or smaller in diameter. In a 12" fry pan mix together 1- 12oz can of ginger ale (regular or diet) and 1 bottle of Honey BBQ sauce. Add uncooked or frozen meatballs - cover and simmer until sauce reduces until thick (about 1 hr) turn meatballs every so often to make sure they cook evenly.

We graze on Christmas Eve.

Meatballs
Cocktail weiners
sausage balls
several cheeseballs
Buffalo chicken dip (thanks to this board :goodvibes)
meat/cheese tray
veggie tray
cookies
pumpkin roll
pumpkin cheesecake
nuts
ham/cream cheese/pickles (don't know if it has a name)
crabmeat/cocktail sauce/cream cheese
cheese straws

some good appetizer suggestions. He wants to graze all day LOL. I am OK with it, I think it should be easier then making a big sit down dinner and then cleaning everything up afterward.

I always use real - poached or roasted chicken breasts.

Ceecee I always use fresh, grilled chicken in mine. I also use jalapeno ranch dressing to add additional kick.
