He is deathly allergic to mushrooms. In looking at menus for some of the places we'd like to eat, I notice many of the items that interest him (particularly steaks) come with some kind of mushroom glaze/sauce/topping, etc. How accomodating are the chefs to preparing meals differently for those with food allergies? I am sure for things like peanuts they are used to it, but mushrooms is not a common allergy.

VERY accomodating of all allergies - just have the CM note in your PS, and get the phone number for the chef at the restaurants you are planning to dine at and talk to them prior. You can also mention it to your server once you are seated, and the chef will likely come and speak with your DH about his allergy and precautions he needs to take in preparing his food.

I am convinced that The World is the safest place for people with food allergies =)

I would think that steaks are prepared to order for the most part, so it really shouldn't be a problem. Always ask before you arder and - more than likely - the chef that prepares your meal will speak with you about omitting the mushrooms. It may not be possible for all menu items, but I would think that most steak-type items could easily be served without any sauces or gravies.

I'm sure you'll have no problems getting your food prepared in whatever way is necessary.

And by the way...that mushroom allergy isn't as strange as you think. I know several people with the same allergy. :D

Have a great trip!

I have a very strange allergy and they went out of their way to work with it, either by telling me what I couldn't have, bringing me items made specially for me, or asking what I'd like and offering to cook something completely different. No worries! :D

I'm also allergic to mushrooms and have never had a problem having anything prepared without mushrooms. All you have to do is ask.

I am also allergic to mushrooms and at one time in my life I enjoyed them so much. One trip we ate at RFC. My DS and I shared the stuffed lobster and steak and I had a bowl of safari soup. I didn't see any mushroom, but I was sick the rest of the night. I learned by lesson and now if I'm not 100% sure I ask if something is prepared with mushrooms.

My daughter and I are both allergic to mushrooms as well! Remember though it's not just about eliminating the mushrooms, the chefs will also need to use separate knives, pans, etc... when preparing his food or he will have a problem as well.

Don't worry, Disney chefs are extremely accommodating when dealing with allergies, so you should have no problems.

Have a great time, Tiger aka Piglet's Momma

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but for others with this problem, what are your symptoms?
