DH and I were looking at the map of SSR today...He said that they should rent golf carts to guests at the THV like they do at Fort Wilderness...The THV are so far from the main area of SSR so it would be great for the guests and it would be a money maker for Disney...I think they plenty of parking for it...Overall not a bad idea...

Your thoughts? Be nice, he is my loving DH after all :lovestruc

I had suggested that in response to someone's TR as an 'improvement' for SSR. Years ago when the Disney Villas were on that property, we use to rent golf carts to go to the Market Place and to get around the property.

My kids use to love riding in those carts.

:thumbsup2 Great idea. We wouldn't rent them as we like to walk but I can see where some would. Tell DH: good job!

They would either need a contractor to purchase those (like internet service and strollers) or members at SSR would pay for the initial purchase of those.

There could be a problem with guests driving across the golf course on those golf carts, too.

Don't know if it will ever happen - but DD would sure love to be chauffeured around in one them all day! :cutie:

My thoughts:

Good idea: flexible, fun, rental costs should cover purchase & maintenance -or- as another mentioned: contract the service out.

Bad idea: Once one person's allowed a cart everyone wants one, and look at what golf carts have done to the Fort wilderness. When I was a kid everyone walked, biked or took a tram around. Now everyone has golf carts and there is NO PLACE TO PARK THEM. They're everywhere down by the docks and around the stores. What used to be a peaceful and beautiful area is now a virtual parking lot of carts. It was an "evil" Disney brought upon itself and now can't get rid of.

Unfortunately, the Fort Wilderness train system was removed, and the custom built steam locomotives left out in the weather to simply rot away in the Florida climate. Woudn't repurposing those trains to loop from the treehouses to the main part of the resort had been a fun way to get around. Nope, some engines were finally acquired by hobbyist/enthusiasts that working to restore them...but Disney seems to have had no use for them.

Hi Chuck, I had forgotten about the trains, I was referring to the popular trams Disney used, much like the parking lot trams they have now - but much more fun with all the twists and turns in the Fort wilderness roads :rotfl: The drivers would joke around with the passengers too. (Everything's so serious now.)

These were replaced by buses, now they're experimenting with hybrid buses in the fort.

I think you used to be able to do that when it was Disney Villas. I don't see why it couldn't be an option again. :thumbsup2

We have stayed at the THV and also in a cabin at Fort Wilderness (golf carts galore at the Fort). I don't know if I like that idea. Some people are crazy golf cart drivers!! I don't want to have to worry about that. I'm fine with walking. :)

We loved using the golf carts to get around when we stayed at the Disney Golf Villas.

I think it would be a bad idea, it was a good idea in the past because for some reason as twinklebug stated few people used them. More people walked, so they did not overun the place.

It would be as bad as the scooter problem at the parks, and believe me I am tried of dodging those, I don't want to have to dodge golf carts gone wild too.
