DH had a chicken shot!

He had his first Synvisc injection today. His left knee is completely deteriorated, bone on bone. He needs a total knee replacement but that is out of the question due to his very poor health. So they injected Synvisc to make a soft cushion of fluid inside the joint.

Synvisc is made from rooster combs! DD16 said "good thing he's not a vegetarian."

I had already suggested that he start using a cane, but you know these men--no way was he going to use a cane at age 53! Well, he changed his tune about 5 minutes after the shot. I found a medical supply place that had attractive sturdy canes and they helped get him fitted. He's been using it today when he walks around the house. Which hasn't been much. His knee is very painful.

I hope this stuff starts helping soon. We're supposed to go to Savannah,GA, for spring break next week. I've already told him we're taking his wheelchair. Both DH & Christian will be in wheelchairs and me in an ankle brace--it will look like the circus came to town! Good thing DD16 seems to be healthy and whole.

Isn't it cool what they've come up with in the world of medicine? My grandfather had a pig valve in his heart that enabled him to live a pretty good life, until prostate cancer took him (actually, 2 different ones in 2 operations; one when he was in his mid-50s and one in his mid-70s). You should tell DH that now you don't need an alarm clock; you have a rooster to wake you up in the morning!

ETA: At first, when I saw your post, I thought a chicken had done something awful to your DH and he had to call the police to take it down! Sorry, it's late here and I have a weird sense of humor...

I can totally see how the sentence could be read that way.
