My son is in the Territorial Army which is our reserve force. He leaves tomorrow morning for training prior to deployment and I feel dreadfull. My DH and I are left trying to run his business which was just getting off the ground. don't even know how long before he leaves.
My DH is a Navy Pilot and I will be in your shoes in just a few short months. Of course, this will be our 4th and I have 3 little boys to keep me busy, but I am dreading it, nonetheless.
A Disney trip is a wonderful thing to fill the void. I am planning an "over-the-hump" trip for my boys in Feb. Talk to friends, start a project and take comfort knowing that your DH is doing something very honorable. Be proud of him and yourself! You are strong and these separations will only make you stronger.
to you. My DH was deployed for 17 months. Please, please, please feel free to PM me if you ever want to vent. I hope you will be able to connect with some other gals in your family program or church, etc. It was a lifesaver for me...and there were some ladies in my shoes here on the DIS who helped me a lot too. (Bibbidi, that means you! ).
Take care and do some nice things for yourself. My MIL paid for daycare for my younger son 2-3 mornings a week, so I could go out and have some "me" time or catch up on my scrapbook, etc.
Mickey Fliers- we did a half way trip to Disney too- my parents took the kids and I. It was a very nice distraction to be planning a WDW trip, although I sure missed DH not being there with us.
And you did the same for me! (PS-it has been fun seeing you on the BB thread!)
KT27, many of us have helped each other through this "ordeal". It really helps to talk with others in your shoes. Feel free to post or pm anytime.
Oh, and we planned and dreamed of WDW (and other trips) while DH was in Iraq and have been fulfilling those dreams this past year. Great way to pass the time. Do find something fun to focus on or a goal to work toward, time will fly quicker.
Ft. Hood is a busy place! lots of folks coming and going from what I hear from my DS. ... remember Military spouse.. it's a tough job but you can do it! Stay strong, Stay busy, ... big hugs!
I wish I could offer some words of wisdom, but I have never been in your situation. I do pray for the safety of our troops, and I just said a special prayer for your husband. God bless you and your husband.
Katie - hang in there sweetie! We're all here if you need us. Stay busy and planning another trip sounds like a wonderful idea! I thank both you and your husband for the sacrifices you make. God Bless both of you.
Thank you. I just found the military.com site and thats been quite a help. Our FRG is pretty much non existent and that seems to be the norm around here. Thank your dh for his service. I aprreciate the thoughts & prayers!
Hmmm, I'm pretty sure that Ft. Hood has an active FRG. If you'd like to PM me your email address, I'll pass it along to my sister, whose DH was deployed from there several times.

Unfortunately dh's unit does not have an FRG, they are looking for volunteers to run it. I'm not sure I have enough experience to do it but I volunteered to help out when I can. I pm'ed my email address
