DH being made redundant

Well, after weeks of speculation, it's official! DH got a letter this morning to tell him he's being made redundant next year. He can either volunteer and go in April or get compulsary redundancy in October next year.

It sort of throws off our plans for moving back to England in the summer. Oh well, at least after 22 years, he should get a big fat redundancy cheque

Joh you are not alone we are in the same situation my DH heard a few weeks ago that he will be out of a job next year after 28 years. Their jobs are going to India. The real kick in the teeth they are bringing the indians over to their place to train them to do their jobs. Don't know how old your DH will be but mine will be 47 too young to retire but just a little too old for comfort Good luck to you both Dee

Deedee, my hubby will be 40 next year so at least he's not too old to be able to find something else (although his settlement should pay off most of the mortgage and his pension will cover the rest so we're not as badly off as some). He's talking about being a 'kept man' at the moment so I'll have to knock that out of him

Thanks everyone for your good wishes. It just seems to be one of those times where it's one thing after another. At least we're still happy and healthy and I'm grateful for that

ah Joh, what a shame but this may be good for him, if he's going to be ok financially it'll be a real chance for him to try and get the sort of job that he's always dreamed of, a job where he'll be really happy. good luck to him and you, I'm sure it'll all be fine.

At least you'll have the redunadancy money as a cushion until he gets something else. Since he's not being 'kept' . My DH was made redundant in Dec and is still looking but he had been there 10 years and the package has kept us going in the meantime. I'm sure if i was made redundant I wouldn't have got such a good package.
