My dear hubby and I are trying to plan our first cruise, we will be with our daughter, age 6. I am going between the Cat 6 and Cat 7 rooms. (Question, on the Cat 6 rooms are the railings solid or is it open to the sea, just picturing Barbies flying into the ocean).

Hubby is thinking we won't spend anytime in room so why waste points ( doing thru DVC). I do aggree with the amount of time in room will be limited to changing and sleeping. But it seems that the Cat 6 and Cat 7 rooms are on the most conveint. decks. (that is coming from reading the posts).

Any thoughts from past cruisers?

We've done both and I prefer Category 7. Most of the category 6's have a plexiglass front (so Barbie won't go flying). The category 7's are more enclosed with a large (open) porthole.

The 7's only sleep 3 which seems it would work for you. The nice thing about the 7's is that you get a padded bench and a chair. With the 6's you get 2 chairs.

Good luck on your choice! I say save the points and go with the 7!

amtmommy,

I'm not a past disney cruiser, this Nov will be our first Disney cruise. That said, hubby and I too debated this issue. We decided to go with a cat 6, because we figured our DS (6) will crash and we will still want to enjoy our time. So we opted for the verandah thinking that when he's sleeping we can sit out there and enjoy the night.

I'm curious to see others comments as well. Good luck in deciding.

That was exactly our experience! DS 6 always wolfed down his dinner (1st seating) and asked to go to the club. DH or I would take him between our courses and enjoy the rest of our meal together. We would pick him up at about 9:30 and get him ready for bed.

In the Cat 6, the bed is across from the TV and one channel continuously plays Disney flicks. On the cruise (we have done both the Wonder and Magic), DS is allowed to stay up as long as he wants watching the Disney movies on TV. He usually crashes quickly, and we spend the balance of the time sitting on those chairs on the verandah. We brought several bottles of wine on board with us for that purpose.

I prefer the Cat 6 because we can see out while we sit there. DS never threw anything over.

I am sure the Cat 7 will be great, but I am hoping we can always due the Cat 6 as we like the open feeling.

BTW, its fun to order room service at midnight. Try the pizza. YUMMY

Good luck!!!:jester: :jester:

We VASTLY prefer the Cat. 6 as I like to be able to see the ocean while seated on the verandah. In a Cat. 7 you are basically totally enclosed except for an open porthole and need to stand up to see the ocean. For me, much of the enjoyment of a cruise is to sit on the verandah and gaze at the ocean. It is completely covered in plexiglas, and the door leading to the verandah has a childproof lock (HECK, I can't even open the stupid thing half the time!) so I wouldn't worry a bit about the child and the verandah. We have had a verandah on nearly every cruise since my daughter was five, with no problems. :)

Voting for category 6 here also - for all the above reasons, plus it was wonderful when we were sick during December's cruise and opted to stay in our room for most of the trip. Made for a very comfortable and enjoyable trip inspite of the sniffles!!!!
