Bruce: 30 and depressed about being 30
Me: 28 and cant wait to be 30, so I can go back to NYC
After a long day yesterday, Bruce and I got up at 08:00. Bruce and I had showers in the morning. I decided I wanted to straighten my hair. Oh, my god I have never taken so long to straighten my hair. I knew the power voltage would affect my straightners, but I did not think it would be that bad. Bruce managed to have a shower, got dressed, ironed his clothes, sorted out the money practically everything and I was still straightening my hair. Hour and half later my hair was done. All I had to do now was my make up and get dressed.
10:30 we made it down to breakfast. Bruce was not impressed at how long it took me to get ready this morning. My argument was well you do not want to walk around NYC embarrassed to be with me do you? Around 11:00, we left the hotel and had a shock oooooohhhhhhhh it had snowed all night and it was about 6 inches deep and was still snowing. The strangest thing was the snow was actually hail/sleet and was settling. It was like stepping on small bits of ice as opposed to the dusty snow we have here. I said to Bruce I think we should go to Macys today and get some shoes for the weather. I was looking for some Timberland boots and some Sketcher shoes. Bruce was not that happy about going into Macys. He hates shopping.
We went into Macys and it did not seem that big. They advertised themselves being the worlds largest store. However, as we started to walk around and noticed they had nine floors we were shocked it did not look that big from the outside. We soon realized yes Macys is that BIG? We went to customer service to get our international discount cards and headed towards the mens section. Bruce found a cheap zip Ralph Lauren sweater and as soon as he saw the prices (a big sale was on) he was like a Cheshire cat, but I called him a tart! He was worse than women were when they shopped. All I could hear was look at this, look at that. Bruce decided he wanted the zip Ralph Lauren top, DKNY t-shirt and Levi jeans. We went up the escalators to the next mens section and we found some mens Timberland boots. Bruce decided on a pair of Timberland boots, including the boots and the clothes the bill came to $101. We were shocked at how cheap it was. As we walked around Bruce saw a Timberland shirt he liked and he started to pay for his shirt, I noticed a nice 3 in one Timberland coat. I showed it to Bruce and he liked it. The shop attendant said it was $60, but it came over $100 when he scanned it and said because he said it was $60 he would sell it to us for that price. It was in a sale, but they took it off and that was the last coat. We were chuffed as we would never of got that back home. Now Bruce was loving Macys and was having a great time shopping. I had a look at a few shoes and some trainers, but I did not particularly like any of the shoes. Since working in my job, I cannot wear heels and the nice shoes that were in a sale were stiletto heels. I was a little disappointed. I did like some shoes in a style called My Michelle. Bruce wanted me to buy these, for the obvious reasons, but I was not prepared to pay for them and I did not particularly like them that much. I had a look at the womens clothes and bought my cousin a DKNY top for her 21st birthday. We had a drink in the café and Bruce waited there until I had a look around the womens section. I really wanted some new trainers so we looked at the trainers, but the ones I liked were Addidas and were $120 I did not want to pay that. I was quite fussy, but I did not want to spend all of my money on a pair of trainers and I thought I would have a look at the sketcher shop before buying any trainers. We stopped off at McDonalds in Macys because Bruce was hungry and wanted a snack. We both had a coke and Bruce had a chicken fajita snack. I was not hungry so I decided not to eat anything. I said to Bruce I wanted to get the kids some clothes, so we looked in the kids section, we bought Casey some guess jeans, and some guess trousers they are lovely. We also got her two tops. We did not really look in the boys section, as time was getting on and we figured that it was only across the street and we can always come back. Before we left Bruce wanted to have a look in the electrical department. We saw a Nintendo DS for $129. I could not justify buying one, because I would not have time to play it and I prefer the PSP anyway.
After Macys the snow was getting worse and it was still snowing. Therefore, I went to Sketcher shop on the way back to the hotel and found some nice sketcher boots. They are like the brown suede Timberlands, but with fur on the side and a bigger. They were on sale at $42 at that price I could not say no especially with the snow and I bought some sketcher flat shoes.
We headed back to the hotel, the wind started to get worse, and my umbrella broke. All I had was the top of the umbrella. We stayed in the hotel and used their computers to top up our travelers cheque card up. I sent some emails to friends and family to let them know what we were up to and the weather.
We later struggled our way to Foleys. An Irish bar/restaurant and had dinner here. We had a platter starter, which consisted of chicken wings, cheese sticks, chicken dippers and potato skins. The starter was ok a little tasteless considering the wings were meant to be hot. Bruce had two lagers, I had one vodka and coke and one normal coke. We both had a Foleys burger. Again, this was tasteless and bland. The chips were slightly burnt. We asked for the bill it came to $76. Not that impressed with the food. We took a slow walk upto Times Square to see if we could get any tickets to a Broadway show. It was a Friday night and snowing. Bruce said not a chance. We headed up there anyway to try to find this place called TKTS, who are meant to sell cheap tickets. We walked all around Times Square and the Marriott hotel where it was meant to be and we could not find them anywhere. So we headed over to Avenue Q theatre to see what they had on offer, but they only had $120+ tickets so we decided to miss that and walked over to Spamalot and again they had sold out and only had $76 partial view tickets for the next night. After the disappointment, we headed over to Toys R Us and had a look around. It was impressive, but we could not find many toys for the boys. They had many toys, but it was a lot of everything. It was hard to try to find something they liked. We bought them some Star Wars toys.
As we walked, back to the hotel in the freezing cold, we had a drink in OLunneys an Irish bar and it was packed. They had the big stalls that I had to jump to get onto them and they were so uncomfortable. We stayed for the one and headed over to the Irish bar next to our hotel. This was a nice bar, but they had boxing on the TV. It was so obvious that the matches were rigged. They were playing in Madison Square gardens, but the matches were ridiculous in my eyes. The supposed Irish boxers won all the matches and they were a lot bigger than the other contestants were. Bruce still enjoyed it. I was getting bored, Bruce was engrossed with the boxing and I was getting tired, probably from the boredom. So we headed back to the hotel at 11:00. We were quite hungry, Bruce went to McDonalds to get something to eat, and we literally ate that watched a bit of TV and went to bed.
Overall, a little wasted, but the weather was awful. You could hardly walk in it and the observatories were closed. We could not really site see. Fingers crossed the weather is better tomorrow. We are still in NYC. Cannot get any better than that!
