I've just started looking for flights from Nov 05. Without Delta it looks like American is the only one offering non-stops. The prices are crazy, I quess I'll have to wait until someone takes over Delta's gates. Hopefully it will be someone who flys to Orlando! Southwest announced they would not be using them :(

Anyone else finding anything? Is it just too far out? I'm wondering if I should book a 1stop if I find it cheap but I will hate not having a non-stop.

What price are you seeing?
I have a feeling that DFW/AA will not put a low cost carrier at those gates. We are just stuck with the higher fares!

Don't feel bad, I live in the ATL and it is usually 200 round trip per person to go to Orlando. But I have found deals to NY, LA, SF, and places much much further away with the same rate :earseek: That is why we always drive, because I refuse to pay 600 and something for a 20 minute flight!!!

We are trying to go around Jun 13-21 and the best fare I have found non-stop so far is about 960.00 for 2 adults 2 children with AA. What prices are you finding. People say that us DFW fliers never really get good deals on flights.

We just booked our flights for April the other day.

Unfortunatly we missed the boat. On Monday American had the price at $210 per adult. On Tuesday when we booked it was $270. :earseek:

Blaming my DH for that one because I told him to book on Monday! :charac2:

We only fly American. My DH travels a lot for work, so he is E Platnum on American. So at least each trip wracks up the miles & stuff for us.

However I am annoyed with AA. Each year my DH gets these "free tickets" for flying X number of times in X number of months. They make it so freaking hard to use these tickets! Last April we wanted to use them & had to fly through Tampa. This time we are going with friends, so we had to be on the same flight. We are leaving in 3 months & they are saying there are no availabilty for our free tickets on the days we need to travel. I dont think we have ever been able to use these "free tickets" without a problem!

Airtran has been flying nonstop from DFW to MCO for the past 2 years. As soon as they started service American and Delta were forced to drop their standard advance fare from $300 to $200 roundtrip. It has been around $200 ever since.

Presently, Airtran offers two flights a day. The standard advance fare is $210 (with all fees). However, at about 3 months prior to the travel date, Airtran will initiate periodic fare sales that will take the price down to about $175. The risk with waiting is that your desired day may already be overbooked and, consequently, not eligible for the reduced fare. (American always matches Airtran's sale fares.)

Good luck with your search.

I hope you were exaggerating because ATL to MCO is more than a 20 minute flight.

As far as DFW, you guys really do need the competition there. Maybe someone will fill those gates soon.

I have coupons for northwest to get up to $100 a flight. Where are trying to fly? I can look up how much I could save you!

YIKES!! Don't scare me. We haven't ever tried to use those free tickets but we plan to use one in May for our trip. Can't book flights until tax return comes in. I wasn't worried because I checked the embargo dates and we're flying around them. Should I be worried? Is it hard to use the tickets? We plan to use that one, a free one through points, and purchase two. Do you think we can be on the same flight? Ugh! We never fly so I'm clueless...DH just flies for work so he never really does details. Any tips or ideas of troubles would be helpful!

Thanks!

San Antonio is just as bad. When Airtran flew outof here years ago, rates were reasonable...now it is about $300 to $350 pp to Orlando, and Southwest is flying form here, they are only a few $$$ cheaper than Delta and AA, and the only non-stop.

We're gonna drive.

Unforunately I am not. It takes longer to go through everthing. 5 hours total with the new sercuity isses. 7 1/2 hours in car. Use to fly this all the time at 120 round trip. It is now 200 and sometimes a little more per person. You are in the air for only 20 to 25 minutes tops.

1 hour total - 20 minutes before take off - 20/25 minutes in air - 20 miutes getting to MCO.

Sorry - no exaggerating over here.

We were looking at possibly going in mid-Feb and AA was showing $175 DFW to MCO roundtrip when I was looking a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, we're not going to get to go then. I think they put that fare out to match Delta's recent price cuts.....it's when all of that was in the news. We've found good fares and fares that made you cringe, so you just never know. One lucky thing for us....being in central Texas, we can fly out of Austin, Houston, or DFW without too much hassle which gives us more options.

My best deal EVER (and one that I know I'll never see again) was TG 2001 when we flew Southwest RT from Austin for $100 pp. I still enjoy thinking about that! :D

Start trying to book them as soon as you can. Also be flexible with your dates & times. AA is making it very hard to use those free tickets to popular destinations.

You need to mail them your free ticket voucher once you book your seat. Then when they receive it, they actually issue the ticket (it is reserved and everything, but if they never receive the voucher, you dont get your seat). Also I believe you need either 14 or 21 days before flying to book on the free ticket voucher. So make sure to do it early.

It is easier to book with miles.

I am sure you can all be on the same flight, just be flexible. Like I said, last year we flew through Tampa to use them.

This year though we have friends going with us, so we are all going on the same flight, same car to the hotel, same hotel, you get the idea. So we could not be flexible.

It is a pain to try & use them, but if you are willing to work with AA, you can get them done.

Unfortunatly it looks like ours may just expire, unless I can convince DH to go back before the end of June. :Pinkbounc

I 'm having the same issue. When I first started pricing the airfare in October it was 843.60 for a family of four now it's between 970.00 and 1200.00. I think I'm going to wait until 90 days out which is around March for our May trip. :charac2:

I looked at the airtran website and they are only booking through Sep 05. That maybe why AA is still so high for that time period. I'll keep looking, and hopefully it will get better. I have a long time before I have to buy tickets, just suprised at how different the pricing is without Delta to compete with AA.

Actually that is incorrect. An ATL to MCO flight is 1 hour and 20 minutes. You are in the air for approximately 1 hour. The arrival time of a flight is the expected time of landing not arrival to the gate. I fly from ATL to MCO quite frequently and I am always in the air for 1 hour.

Same from Houston. Southwest flys out of Hobby (with one stop) and Continental flys out of Bush (non-stop). The prices are roughly the same, and I've never seen anything in the past few years that I would consider a "good deal".

I'm driving in April. There are four of us going, and the cost of a car rental for nine days ( I don't want to put 2000+ miles on my own vehicle), plus gas, will work out to be about half the cost of four plane tickets.

Hmm, are you checking Expedia? Can you change your dates a little? I did some checking for June 13-20th 2005 just yesterday and the rate was $863 for four people like you described. When I tried June 13-19th it wouldn't give me a rate at all! (gave me the flights to choose then when it went to check the rates it'd give me a page with red type saying they couldn't give a price quote at that time- and I checked ALL flights going out AA that day!) So I think the return flights are the 'issue'. I changed it to the 20th and the rate was $863. Still not cheap.

Have you thought of flying out of Lovefield? I think I'm going to check there and see if I can get better rates.

Wow, nevermind. Flights out of Lovefield are starting at $318 each! ugh

I am not sure what your dates are, or what is expensive to you but I just looked in mid november on AA non stop and with taxes it was 210.90 a person, just thought I would let you know :D
